I would also like to download Tape 8 or get an MP3 via email if possible (murraymichael AT prodigy dot net). I love how it turned out and your lyrics/vocal and mix were phenomenal! Also, congrats on winning FAWM 3.21 times.
[avatar]
Hey, @elesimo ! Is there some way to download the final Tape 8, "let's start a new kind of government" without a funkwhale account? Or might you be able to send me an mp3? (dugganensis at gmail dot com). Your breathless hardcore punk treatment is great. 😄
[avatar]
Thanks for your positive and useful comments! I plan on listening to all your output this week now that I am (for sure) done.
[avatar]
Thank you so much! I was a bit surprised myself that it worked so well, because of course I couldn‘t synch it to the beat. Oh yes, that would be great! I like the combination of ukulele and electronic music a lot. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be doing 50/90, but probably yes just for the fun of colabs :)
[avatar]
@seb
Thanks for the links Beto!!! Got into Slack. For Zoom it luanches a meeting. Is there a weekly invite or info link? :)
[avatar]
@liz561
Thanks for your help-I think I might have fixed it but I'll have to wait the two hours (is that like eating and then swimming???)
[avatar]
Glad Tape 8 is still viable to be (possibly) finished by the end of FAWM. Looking forward to hearing what everybody came up with.
[avatar]
Thanks - still coughing a bit but over the weekend it was mostly FAWM-flu-fatigue that was stopping me from getting much done and that part seems to have gone now so at least I have some energy back 😄
[avatar]
@seb
Thank you for all the info!! Would love the info if ypu can share for the Slack and Zoom! :)
[avatar]
Hi, I added some ambient guitar and posted the song...I hope you are ok with it.
[avatar]
Thanks for the base beat.. .I will add some guitars to this... thanks.
[avatar]
3 decks. Mike has one.
[avatar]
@seb
Hi @elesimo! Hope you dont mind me asking some questions since you are an experienced FAWMER? :) ......Just wondering how to keep connecting with other FAWMERs I didnt talk to once FAWM is over and also how to somehow keep FAWMING with new people I didnt FAWM with after FAWM its done? Thank you!
[avatar]
Cool, I look forward to the piece when you send it.
[avatar]
just sent you a crazy collab idea thing :) (via email)
(no worries either way if ya get to it!_ -mike
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comment on my collaboration, Calamari Rhymezone! I appreciate the kind words!
[avatar]
Much love to you. Thank you for your kind comment.
[avatar]
@seb
Beto! How do I write songs faster? I only have 5 😤
[avatar]
P.S I’ve just sent you an email with a link to the master file too. 🙌👍
[avatar]
Really you pleased you like the way our collaboration turned out, and love your beats!
[avatar]
@atam94
thanks for checking out "I'll Marry You By The River" - I'm really glad you enjoyed the ambience!
[avatar]
Thanks, Beto!
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated
[avatar]
Thank you for your wonderful comment on "Twenty Years." I'm touched to hear it worked on you too.
[avatar]
It's really easy to hook it up. The earpiece is what you actually use for the mic, as it sounds more "phone-like" apparently. :)
[avatar]
Whoa, have I got a lot to catch up with - you got an EARLY win. Way to go!! Yeah, I made the mic past summer as we were clearing out some things. Barbara used to use an old Snoopy telephone in her class for the kids to give the weather report. Didn't need it anymore, so I took the receiver and added the mic cable. really easy. I had a song that needed a phone sound a few years ago and I had to use a ton of effects to get it right - now I am ready for the next one, haha.
[avatar]
> BTW, we use IP geolocation on the FAWM website to display the globe icon for generic social links! The globe is shown from the perspective of the user!

That's a cool detail! Is it the perspective of the user whose profile it is, or the one who's viewing the site?

I'd like to try getting more details in a song that change on a per-request basis. To go much past what I did last night, it stops being feasible to just sing every possible version. I'm looking for ways to script a singing vocal synth with arbitrary lyrics, which would unlock more possibilities. If I figure that out, I think I could fill the rest of my FAWM with experiments I want to try.
[avatar]
thanks Beto!
[avatar]
Hiya, I am getting a little confused...easy for me... I think we still have a random challenge we are working on besides tape 5?...
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to the Only Way to Hang On. I know that phrase the Cup is Already Broken - from some Buddhist book maybe by Jack Kornfield in which it's mentioned as a story about a Buddhist monk - either about the author or about a couple going to see the monk and asking how can you love life knowing there is death, and in my retelling of the retelling, of the telling, the monk lets the cup fall and smash. I say it to myself every time I break something in the kitchen and other times. So maybe it is a real story and I am quoting your monk. How cool that you have a monk friend.

While I'm here, the new site is so fabulous. Thank you. I often think that you would need a Buddhist monk friend to be able to take all the feedback that people offer and just get on with making it what it is right now. I still can't quite believe that this place exists.
[avatar]
Thanks for the tape 5 files. I have downloaded them. I see BPM 114. Any details on key/chords?...Thanks.
[avatar]
Thanks for taking the time to check out a handful of my songs. "The Only Way to Hang On" is a co-write where the lyrics were supplied. I think it may be based on Buddist teachings.
[avatar]
i'll try to work on some decent lyrics for you... if you want to send some music sometime, i could add some vocals to that. maybe we could go back and forth a couple times with other layers after that.
[avatar]
yo, elesimo. i didn't sign up for the random or video collabs because i'd feel obligated to try to do my best... but that might take time... and i feel pressed for time. i don't mind that my own songs are rushed and maybe terrible. so, i'm up for a collab, but my part might be minimal and/or weak.

keep up the good work, musical and technical and otherwise.
[avatar]
@muz
Hi Elesimo. That's a pity as I'd rather point people to this site than set up my own site to curate my songs! Still it does push people to take ownership of their own songs which is probably a good thing. Out of curiousity, do you know whether this policy is because there isn't sufficient storage space for songs over multiple years, fawm wasn't originally designed to run continuously, or are the designers cognizant that social media can be an attention trap?
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out Wear Bright Gear and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
[avatar]
@sollis
Hey Beto, thanks for your insights into life with a 4-track. It's really valuable to hear such comprehensive thoughts from someone with lived experience. You're quite right about the limitations, and some of them hadn't even crossed my mind. The lack of an undo function for example - Perfectly obvious once you pointed it out, but I hadn't even considered how I would get by without my beloved Ctrl+Z!

Despite all that, analogue gear and analogue recordings will always have a certain charm and sound that digital can't quite emulate (though some plugins are beginning to get close). I'll check out some of Burr's videos. They sound like they'd be a good watch even if I don't venture OTB.

Thanks again.
[avatar]
@nadine
Oh, that has been new for me! I don't mind that you started in 2022, the song is cool!
[avatar]
Beto... thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my song and for the really thoughtful comment. I appreciate it so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
[avatar]
Oh, sorry! I tried looking for something like that before asking you but couldn't find it. Thank you!!
[avatar]
Thank you! I'm sorry to ask since I know you're busy, but anytime you get a chance could you send me the audio file for the song so that I can edit it into the podcast? No rush! The episode won't be finished for at least another week or so. And no worries re: the challenge! Thanks for the update!!
[avatar]
Thanks for taking the time leave your impressions.
[avatar]
@toms
"an experienced person who traveled the world and has seen everything, with a hint of sarcasm" I am good with that 💯 😄 Thank you for the kind comment and the listen!
[avatar]
Cool, I'll definitely reach out when I'm heading up there after Feb. I've got it in my mind to hike out to see the waterfall that falls into the ocean at Point Reyes. A bit of a long hike, but I figure I'll camp up there somewhere and make a weekend of it, can definitely buzz up your way for a coffee or whatever.
[avatar]
@gm7
Sweet
..looking forward to it.
[avatar]
@gm7
Thx Beto..
Maybe we try to do an ambient song this FAWM.....maybe I send you something and you add some layers ..seeing you have more experience than I. I will send you an email with an idea..or maybe you have a suggestion.... Volcanos !!! Just saying
[avatar]
Hey, thanks. Bodega Bay? That's very near a target travel destination of mine, Point Reyes National Park. Maybe we could get together and have a coffee or take a hike, talk shop. One of my favorite things about touring was meeting old friends and new acquaintances for delicious three hour talks about life.

I just bought an old used Sprinter van to travel and sleep in, so I could drive up pretty much any weekend.
[avatar]
Thx mate!
[avatar]
Hey Beto any idea why my songs might change order? I posted novocaine yesterday and an hour or so posted a little more love but they show the other way around! Not a biggie but a bit odd.
[avatar]
Thanks. Done!
[avatar]
FYI. The link to your page loads but the songs will not play. There is a message that 14 songs have been added to my queue, but in the little widget all 14 kind of slowly flash by, each title visible for a second or two then moving on to the next. Is that the default website player page?
[avatar]
Is there a reason I would need some kind of experimental environment for Funkwhale ? I don’t code. Would be a user only
[avatar]
Are you hosting your songs for this FAWM on funkwhale? I’m intrigued if so. I’m intrigued with funkwhale even if not. What’s the best way for me to learn about it?
[avatar]
That was perfect, beautiful, the best possible comment on that song. I think it was actually my fault though, I didn't enable the sharing link. Try now?
[avatar]
Thank you for supporting my opossum music! I included you in my latest song!
[avatar]
Dude you are awesome! You made this so easy. I have to give my track to the next person on my tape team (digital 4-track challenge) and my producer. One stop, I win!

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qa5D0fVoJ7Qq9Vwa-D1EuFFRgH3p-2vI?usp=share_link

All seriousness, technology fought me so I wish for you a better time at it than I had. My click, take and notes are in there. Good luck!
[avatar]
Oh, how funny : - )

We were listening and commenting on each other's songs at the same time! Looks like I've got the better bargain with more tracks ready to listen to!
[avatar]
@aeye
A whole fawm in one day! Whoa. That’s gotta be a record. Checking them out as soon as I can
[avatar]
Hi there Beto! Good to see you here!
[avatar]
Oh wow. The song quote. I'm crying. Will miss Eric. I'm so glad I got to meet him in person at our Fawmstock.
[avatar]
Hey Beto.

Yeah, that song By Hook Or By Crook was so good. I’ll miss Eric. Great guy, and a superb creative musician.
[avatar]
@gubna
Hey Beto! Happy Fawming! You still doing the 24 hour jam?
[avatar]
Hey Beto, I got your message on my soundboard...I am keen for this collab if you are... I see you use cassette and do soundscapes... Do you want to put together something in the ambient or post rock genres and I can add some guitars on top? I don't have tape... all good with me.
[avatar]
Beto, so glad you're back and so grateful for all the work you put into the site - it's glorious! Cheers and happy FAWMing to you, my friend!
[avatar]
@clioem
Your goals are EPIC, I admire that!
[avatar]

[avatar]
You too! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with
[avatar]

[avatar]
Hi Beto, glad to see you back! Waiting for new tunes from you, happy FAWM!
[avatar]
e sempre bom te ver, em qlqr lado 🤗
[avatar]
os planos esse ano tem a ver com a terapia: organizar-se para ter tempo dedicável ao FAWM, mas com calma, sem ansiedade. ❤️
[avatar]
Thanks for the offer of help on the 4 track challenge. If I need it, I will definitely ask. (and yes, I saw the videos ... and it may have cost me some money lol). I look forward to working with you on the "Digital 4-track challenge" Happy FAWM.
[avatar]
Thanks for all the work on the site. Hope you have a great FAWM.
[avatar]
You're weighing! Thanks for the inspiration 😁
[avatar]
Thanks for the welcome, I'm excited to be here. I love your goals!
[avatar]
Hi, there! Your goal list is inspiring me to create my own! I'm looking forward to seeing you crush those goals this year. Happy FAWM!
[avatar]
Olaaar, meu queridíssimo! ❤️
[avatar]
Cup holder purchased! I have a headphone hanger but this is even more useful. See you around!
[avatar]
Nice, love the goals list! And your atmospheric music, feels like good writing (prose) music.
[avatar]
Hello! Have a wonderful FAWM! And thanks for your Mod work!
[avatar]
Happy FAWMing!
[avatar]
@atam94
Happy FAWM! I can't wait to get started 😊
[avatar]
Thanks and likewise!
[avatar]
Pisces has been on a rather heavy rotation in my headphones lately. Wonderful album. Loving the contrast of saturated glitchy goodness and absolutely beautiful melodies. That guitar line in Rasputin is particularly captivating.
[avatar]
@erbaer
Yes. I do need to know where to send this. Thanks!
[avatar]
Good to see you again….. I love your stuff….. and your input👍🏻
[avatar]
@ryuu
Hey, thank you for the nice welcome! I wish you a wonderful FAWM.
[avatar]
howdy, beto. since i'm fairly out-of-touch, i didn't maybe realize you were a coder type in addition to your other skills. cool that you worked with that burr guy for the rebuild of the site. best of luck with all things FAWM 2023. i'm supposed to be very busy this year... so i'm looking forward to a very disciplined 1 hour per day fawming. and maybe a feast or two.
[avatar]
@brisk
Loving Pisces so far, now on Genesis. Great work, lovely positive atmosphere, introspective, but most of all beautiful. Came to it as a result of the new music thread of course.
[avatar]
Checked out your album, you linked in the forum thread, really nice and atmospheric tunes, enjoyed your output during earlier FAWMs and 50/90s and looking forward to hearing new music from you this year. Really liked and chuckled at your take on NTF’s, awesome concept 🙂
[avatar]
Norns gonna be golden!
[avatar]
listening to the album you linked in the forum thread i posted and HOLY ATMOSPHERE BATMAN this RULES!!! the synths, the details, the post rock floaty feeling 🥰 i can't wait to hear what you come up with for FAWM, and thank you for sharing!!! 😀
[avatar]
That friendship paradox post = instant follow.
[avatar]
@chroes
Hello hello! Oh, you're one of the few who are also on Mastodon, nice! Followed you over there. Hope your FAWM starts off well!
[avatar]
Hi Beto! Wishing you a great FAWM! Thanks for all the work you put in this. Hope it pays off in February!
[avatar]
Listened to The Fishermen & the Priestess. Those tracks cleaned up real nice. I've been cleaning up some old stuff. Mostly didn't have tracks so just some remastering. Interesting to go back.
[avatar]
Welcome back! :) looking forward to your tracks
[avatar]
Beto!
Hey… thank you so much for the warm 2023 welcome. Really sweet. And thanks for the well wishes. Yeah, I’m hoping I can at least do two?… maybe three songs? It’s weird how the health stuff flares up on me.

By the way, I understand you had a lot to do with the rewrite of the website? Wowza! Way to go!

It’s amazing.
Happy FAWMing Beto.
I look forward to hearing what you post forbus to listen to. 😊
[avatar]
@candle
Happy FAWMing Beto!

See You In The Shadows…
[avatar]
Hey Beto, yes I am planning on attempting some writing this year, although it's more likely to be February EP Writing Month :-))

Have a great FAWM my friend :-)
[avatar]
@aeye
Happy fawm!!
[avatar]
Looking at what youve achieved the last few months, I feel I've done very very little indeed! Thank you for the means to music!
[avatar]
Hi Beto! Great to see you back!

And a sincere Thank you for all your hard work on the site! Really really well done!

Have a great FAWM!
[avatar]
Happy FAWM, Beto! I'm out of the country for the first week of Feb - if it looks like there will still be time to 4track this year after that, I'll touch base with you about heading up your way to grab a recorder. I am looking forward to hearing some more of your work this year!
[avatar]
@gm7
OK..let's do it.
[avatar]
thanks for the message, and YES, would love to do another collaboration!
[avatar]
Thank you for all you do!!!!!!!!!!!
[avatar]
HI BETO, have a great FAWM!

btw, I have been waiting to listen to this Numbered Ferric Tape because I haven't added a player to my new home setup. I'm getting one soon, I have other cassettes on deck but this one's going up first.
[avatar]
(Also, amazing job on the new FAWM site!!!)
[avatar]
My friend, my friend!! Thanks for your note. I think of you often and wish Feb. wasn't the only time of the year that we get to we chat (haha), but I'll take what I can get! :)
[avatar]
It's going to be a great FAWM! :)
[avatar]
Happy FAWM to you Beto!! I'm looking forward to finally putting that four-track recorder to use (since I couldn't get my act together during 5090). I also really like your ambitious goals. Longest song in the history of the universe, I can't wait to hear it!
[avatar]
So good to be here with you! Thanks for all the wonderful work - the site looks fantastic.
[avatar]
Hiya Beto! I am glad to see you here. Thank you for all you do to make FAWM a safe space for opossums everywhere!
[avatar]
@beacon
So glad to be here with you, and to thank you for all the amazing work on this. It's better than 50/90!
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you, Beto! welcome back :)
Btw, I decided to start a digital 4 track this year. Especially as I want to restrict myself from writing too much, this may be a good idea to keep my mind busy.
[avatar]
Thank you, Beto!! Happy February--hope its full of fun for you!
[avatar]
Hey Beto! Woohoo! well done, hope you enjoy the fruits of your labour! Have fun!
[avatar]
@max
Thanks for being one of the super friendly moderators on FAWM. Have fun this year.
[avatar]
@fuzzy
Thank you so much for your part in the site design!!
You are the best!! 😀
[avatar]
@phylo
Beto, that's so cool that you're a moderator and programmer here. It makes perfect sense. I'm so impressed with you. Let's do this!
[avatar]
Re longest song - I think Tim Wille did a 41 minute track one year, as an album in one track, as well as 14 normal length songs
[avatar]
Thank you for building such an awesome website to test 😀
[avatar]
Thanks so much for all your hard work on the site... I couldn't have done it without you! Looking forward to our 4-track MIDI sync collab! 😍
[avatar]
Thank *you*, Beto, for bringing your skills and hard work to this site! Looking forward to your songs, and to all the magic of this month.
[avatar]
Re: goal number four, the longest FAWM song I'm aware of is @eighteenisnine's "Trappist-1" from 2017, which is 35 minutes and ten seconds long. That's a challenge!

Re: goal number five, "longplayer" is a thousand-year-long musical composition which is being played in Greenwich, UK and has been since midnight on December 31st, 1999. You can listen to its progress on the web; it has its own Internet radio station. https://longplayer.org/about/
[avatar]
Beto, thanks for doing such a stellar job on the site redesign. It's much appreciated. Are we going to be getting any more of your epic videos this year?
[FAWM]
