Ceint de ma propre couronne, oint de l'huile sainte, I am freshspotlessyouth.

What's my problem? Good question. I've been doing this FAWM thing for over a decade without bothering to learn anything. My watchwords for 2023: ignorance, incompetence, and hubris (though not necessarily in that order). Should be fun

I will collaborate with anyone who can tolerate my louche approach to music making.

Hey @rayboneor - No worries. (I didn't think anything like that). Thank you very much for your generous offer! I had assumed that you were offering it for a Fawm Over Party, which is probably a bit shorter than a FAWMStock. I did think about asking about it for FAWMStock, but as the dates, details and headcounts with FAWMStock has changed around so much so quickly, I didn't know what to ask.

As things have moved forward, between the potential headcount in the 30s and folks coming from Canada hoping for some place farther north and other logistical bits, it just ended up being a bit easier to go with the place in Ocean Park, which can fit about 45 in a single lodge.

Having said that, we haven't put down an official reservation with that facility yet - thus the Google Form. If things fall through, I may be in touch.

Anyway, thanks again!
[avatar]
Haha thanks. The title (as with all my songs) is just what popped into. My head at the time
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out Final Friday, Jason's music was a real inspiration to really dig into the vocals and connect with my punk side.

Hey @rayboneor - Thanks for the info. That place looks great! A good location with lots of space, which is ideal!

Do you have a special deal with the place or is it just someplace you've used before?

There's talk of doing both a FAWM Over Party and FAWMStock West, which would be a weekend retreat. The way things are trending, the FOP may just be a meetup at some location near Portland for a single evening... probably a hangout with food and possibly jamming.

If we do FAWMstock, that gets a bit more complicated. I looked at a retreat place that can handle 45 or so people, not counting camping space, but it will end up being more expensive.

Do you think this place might be an option for a weekend in August or September? If the current interest maxes out around 20, this place may fit the bill perfectly for that.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Advice: don't eat at rotating sushi restaurants!! lol

I mean hard to even know where to start, but I always recommend less planning and more wandering, especially in Tokyo. I haven't seen pretty much any of the main tourist attractions. Kyoto's lovely, pretty much any little mountain town is lovely. Beaches...underwhelming mostly unless you're from a place w/o beaches. For this Californian, I've only seen a few that were really worth the visit, and those were quite remote (not easy to get to without a car and some time on your hands)

So it was kind of ridiculous how it blew up, but I mostly felt bad for the sushi chain. They lost A LOT of money, and it really wasn't their fault. That said...the dad filmed the whole thing, so in a way it was kind of a convo that needed to happen. Kids, meh, you make mistakes. Grown-ass adults doing that nonsense? Naw, pay up. You're endangering folks' lives.

Thank you so much. If you're cutting pasting you might as well snip up any other comments you've left here this month on my work. :)
I love you so much, my friend. You don't know what your honest open feedback has done for my confidence over the years. It really means so much to me.
Hugs.
[avatar]
Sorry to scare you. :)
Is it possible to copy paste your comment on the youtube song page? Please? I hate to think that it'll be lost when this site gets scrubbed. And if you listen to any more of my stuff, if you could just leave comments there would be fine. Thanks again. And thanks so much for that song of yours. Listening agian now. A perfect goodbye to a very difficult February.
Hugs.

Congrats on another successful year. We overcame a lot and yada yada yada. ANYWHO - you had asked how I had gotten my drums to sound so loud when they were played quietly. Well, it's all about having an outboard mic preamp that you can blast to who knows what and maybe a little bit about having a compressor to route that signal to. It sounds convoluted but it's really not. I've got a clone of a neve 1073 that works well and is very musical. Email me if you want more details. I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm happy to help how I can. kvnwoodruff@gmail.com

That said, you've got a vibe here that really works.

The nonsense is the sound kids or adults make when they put their hands on their ears and make that lalala sound. I like the message of it, it's pretty harmless for all parties too :)

Hey, sorry for getting back to you so late!
First of all: Love your profile description!
Second: Thank you a ton for your your nice comment on "Beware of Dancing Robots".
And last (but not least): In the next couple of days, I'm going to listen to all of your stuff, leave overly enthusiastic/awfully nice comments and generally be exceedingly friendly and encouraging. Yeah, that's what you get for being kind.
[avatar]
so yum yum then? :)

I'm sorry. I can't even find the file in GarageBand ... I must have accidentally deleted it, because I just listened to everything I have saved in the folder, and "Shakedown" isn't even there. My apologies. Do what you can with the track, or not, and I'll be more careful in the future. (I hate GarageBand, by the way. It's not intuitive and I never feel confident about what I record with it -- I can never seem to do the same thing twice because I'm not sure how it happened the first time -- which means recreating "Shakedown" is impossible. There's gotta be an easier program to build music tracks.)
[avatar]
FSY -- I just sent you "Shakedown" as an MP3 via email. -- CD
[avatar]
Yee haw! My second completed FAWM! I'm working on another actual song today ("Wrangler"), since I have the day off, and hope to post it before tonight. I envision it as a country stomp with fiddle and steel guitar, but it will probably just be me at the piano.

Do what you like with "Shakedown" -- pleased that you like it. I'll check the settings in GarageBand and let you know what I used for the percussion ... I added reverb and delay afterward via an audio mixing program I use called Audacity.

i want referring to you. it was the word that sparked me off. it recurs so often and then i listen to the track and dont hear the gravel. husky might be more accurate. i get a similar reaction when my piano or guitar playing is called meandering. especially on the piano, as i work out what i am playing more precisely than when im just whacking the guitar. and my single note guitar overdubs are just there for atmosphere or to thicken the sound. they are not solos. i hate solos. especially the biab solos that are so prevalent on this site. but truly, i was not complaining about your use of the word. my motives were just the opposite. i just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter with you.
[avatar]
all these references to my gravelly voice in the comments remind me of a day when a guy came up to me after a gig and said that from what he had heard about me, he expected something like tom waits, and he was shocked that i reminded him more of elvis than waits. i gues with so many youngsters and their high, reedy voice, i sound like gravel, but actually my voice is still in pretty good shape. its just lower than it used to be. unlike waits, i dont suck up a bunch of snot from my lungs so i can sound like louis armstrong. really i just try to hit the notes as cleanly and accurately as i can.
[avatar]
Please tell your wife that I very much appreciate the compliment!

You know I’m a big Bejar head (Rubies was was the only record I listened to for a while when it was released) so that is praise indeed. Maybe I’ll find a way to get that to him..

CONGRATULATIONS, my friend ... fourteen songs in sixteen days! (I just posted #10 and wonder from what @$$ I'll pull the other four.) Hah! My crop this year isn't as good as last year's, but so it goes! Party on ....
[avatar]
yes. all the piano playing is estrellas.

“Sissy blond hair” - yeah, I think I might have heard my mother say that. I was that kid observing the adults closely - lol!

i added to the chorus of michelangelo. Go for it!

Yeah man it was a real dump and it's only gotten dumpier. Thank you.
[avatar]
Hey, FSY ... you're overachieving, my friend! A dozen songs already, and the month not even half gone. Yeah, I need to get some more sophisticated equipment to record and mix, but it's challenging at the piano because I don't follow a strict beat -- I pause for dramatic effect, which doesn't really work within the confines of a drum track. Still, I'd like to play around with this song (and many of the others) to make demos that sound more "finished." Thanks for listening ... eight down and six to go!
[avatar]
Lol!
[avatar]
I’m chuffed you remember the Penguin book song. Sadly, the last time I was in that shop (late December) the three shelves had been reduced to one, and that one was pretty sparse. An endangered species.
[avatar]
I put your comment through google translate and it say "Gimme That Yum Yum". :)
Thanks my friend. Hugs.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on "Chaser" ... hmm. A songbook? Hard to imagine ... I can barely play these things, let alone transcribe them to staff paper! But I was pleased with how quickly this one came together, after a couple of days of struggling with two others that refuse to go where I want to take them. Seven down!

@raay
Thanks for checking "SuperLip" out, and for appreciating the humour.
[avatar]
Thank you so much for the “Chains” love and for noticing the “go to Hell” line - my favorite!

snakebitten hair is a satire of bad french surrealist verse..a bill white morph of the snake hair of the gorgon, changing it to snakebitten hair, making the French a diminuative of the Greeks who initiated the concept of democracy into political ritual..

I'm an impulse buyer and I believe in serendipity! There it was. I HAD to have it.
Enjoyed. Hugs.

To answer your question about drum fills, I use Steven Slate drums (really just because there's a free version, I'm sure EZDrummer works the same way) and I do a lot of MIDI editing. Easily the most time-consuming part of the process. It does take a little bit to get everything lined up.

Thanks for the Ringo comparison. Always channeling him if I’m being honest!

FSY -- how does one add #hashtags to the songs posted? Most people do so, but I can't figure it out. Thanks!
[avatar]
Ha! Thanks for telling me that. It made my day.
On youtube when you upload a video it has a checkbox says "Allow embedding"... lucky I pressed yes. :)
You can do a cover if you want LOL... see if that exorcises the demons.
Hope your days are full of much yum yum!

Thank you so much for your deeply kind words about Anything Else? Genuinely the best kind of comment anyone could hope for on their scratchy 1 take phone recording. About to listen to some of your stuff now - hyped!
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind words! EzDrummer has a small learning curve (like anything), but it's incredibly easy once you get the hang of it. I'd wager more than half of the drum tracks you hear on FAWM are EzDrummer. I can't recommended a plug-in more highly.
[avatar]
just me singing on "faces" - its a plug in called rovee that changes my voice
[avatar]
I dropped by to tell you how much I appreciate your wonderful and profound comment on "Mon monde parfait". Thank you very, VERY much!
[avatar]
I appreciate the kind words on my tune! That made me happy to read 🙂

Thank you for your comment.
I'm lucky regarding sofas: Sirius spends most of his time outside, and prefers scratching living trees to destroying furniture.

I have a show on XRPRADIO.CO.UK every week, and for February I transform it into the Fawm Show lol. Put simply I host a skirmish and play all the entries on my show
[avatar]
I don't remember that, thanks for letting me know. I had no idea people listened to my stuff outside of FAWM. Wow...
The Aaaaaaah song... That was when I was still able to play the drums and to scream. Good old times, haha.

As a drummer my understanding of a polyrhythm is two contrasting rhythms that are following the same meter. Kinda hard thing to explain, but this video has a cool way of describing it.

What up, my man? Hope all is well on your side of the world. Here's to a great FAWM. Let's get it!

How did you know that "He was too kind, or maybe some sort of pervert" is exactly what I plan to have carved on my tombstone one day?!?

It is time to put your boots back on ,

Great to see you here as well, my friend. Thanks for your kind appraisal. The "chalkboard menu" for February is pretty much outlined on my profile. God help us all. Have you heard the LIfe Of Love album yet? Finished on Monday.

Ah, you brighten the room with your youth - lol! Happy to see you!
