Geezer Fawmers

I am 86 and will be shooting for 87 in May. Anyone older?
[avatar]
Mr. Cooperider, I am a fresh 55 years old. I just stopped in to congratulate you as the Patriarch of the most prolific family in FAWM!
[avatar]
yes, congrats, @srcoops . I'm still in my early-to-mid 60's (a fact that I still can't believe, on good days I still think I'm 35, tho on worse days I feel 120!)

I wonder what the 'average' age is here, and if its crept up as many (like me since 2006) have stuck around, and gotten older...

[avatar]
Interesting, innit, that passage of time.

I was 22 in my first FAWM and I'm 37 now, so I've been doing this for two-fifths of my life. At the time, I remember looking at 37-year-old FAWMers as fonts of wisdom and life experience, and taking notes on their lyrical control and mature understanding of themes.

Looking at my own songwriting, I think I need to revisit my notes.
[avatar]
You've just made me realise that I'll have been doing FAWM for half of my life as of this year, @stephenwordsmith. Quite the realisation.
[avatar]
@srcoops - you’re making feel like a pup at 69.
[avatar]
Can't wait to read your wise words and hopefully set some to music, @srcoops!
This is my 16th FAWM, and I'll be 57 on the last day of March. Had I stayed in education (taught high school and middle school), I'd be eligible for retirement with full pension next year.
But my wife and I went and started our own business (yoga studio) and now I'll be working for many more years. But I feel awesome - I'm even applying to grad school!
[avatar]
Seventh FAWM turning 65 on 2/20 my seventh FAWMalistic birthday
[avatar]
"Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now."
72.
[avatar]
@philkmills your quote sounds like a joke, but it isn't to me.

I am, internally, much younger in my late 40s than I ever was as a teenager. Most people my age seem to be freaking out about the grey, but for me, I'm just clicking into my groove.
[avatar]
@gm7
WOW 86...KEEP GOING ! @srcoops
This May I will be 69!
[avatar]
@srcoops I'm 11 years behind you but coming along faster than I'd like. ;) You keep on rockin' my friend.
[avatar]
Just turned 54 “and there’s so much more” Hope I’m still writing like you in 30 years, @srcoops!
[avatar]
Hey @srcoops! Glad to "see" you back for more songwriting madness! I really enjoyed collaborating with you on 57 Straight Stick a couple of FAWMs ago!! Maybe we can mix up another one this year?
[avatar]
I feel like a spring chicken, having only turned 60 since last FAWM! I'm so pleased and honored to be in a community which treasures contributions from all its members.
[avatar]
It feels good to be one of the youngsters at 62 (63 in May). 😆
I haven't grown up yet, but my toys have gotten more expensive.
Good to see you here again, Mr @srcoops. 😊
[avatar]
@oddbod
@srcoops I feel like a nipper at 62. I’d like to think I’ll be still doing this in another 20+ years!
[avatar]
Thank you @srcoops & @jwhanberry for the lead, as I desperately ignore my long-gone use-by date. [EDIT: and @paul_pedersen ! Not that I'm counting, mind...]
[avatar]
Ah Mr Coops you still inspire this young 66 year old. Looking forward to a collab again this year!
[avatar]
@srcoops - way to go sir!
A real nippa here... a mere 55. I doubt I will ever grow up. Although, when my vertigo kicks in (like this week), I feel like Tutankhamun's mummy...
[avatar]
At 76, I figured I'd be the old guy in a crowd of youngsters. Glad to see some others of my generation (or older, @srcoops) I don't plan to bring any maturity to the group, though.
[avatar]
I'm one of the young 55byear old whippersnappers, but don't worry, we will stay off your lawn.
[avatar]
In numbers I feel so youngboy here. I know we all are eternal teens so we are same age. Hahaa I turned to 50 last year.
[avatar]
I'm 69 which means I should be able to stand on my head and still look the same; but I haven't been able to try it.
[avatar]
I'll be 54 on the 3rd day of FAWM... still going strong.
[avatar]
@scubed
Congratulations @srcoops!! I’m 67 (68 later this year). Sometimes I forget that I’m old - until I look in the mirror. 😱😆
[avatar]
@mikeskliar "early to mid 60's" I believe I'll use that phrase ... for the next 10 years or so :-D

Just turned 61 at the beginning of January. Feels like I was 25 only yesterday.
[avatar]
I hate to admit it, but I'm in the Geezer category at 70. I don't see how that matters other than a different context of music listening history.
[avatar]
turning 53 today, have received several pieces of mail from AARP and once was offered the Tuesday senior discount at my grocery store 🥲
[avatar]
I am also in the +70 age group, and still learning new tricks.
[avatar]
Lulz I just turned 58. Congrats!
[avatar]
@bonescar My beard is more white than sandy brown nowadays (55). If I am offered a seniors discount, I accept it.
[avatar]
@mikeb
Young 66 here, my 5th FAWM, I believe.
[avatar]
30 years behind @srcoops and still feeling very young at 56. I'm one who has never looked my age and could have easily passed for 12 late in high school, haha. BUT, as a retiree, I feel I fit in this thread just fine. ;)
[avatar]
@janeg
Birth certificate says I am 72. Mind is enjoying second childhood. Body feels like somewhere in the 80s these days. Emotions may vary.
[avatar]
@toms
2 days to 61. Still trying to write like a 17 year old. 😄
[avatar]
@bonescar - happy belated birthday! Joined AARP as soon as I could, which I think was when I turned 50. Used the discount a few times since. And AARP puts out a pretty good magazine.
A couple weeks ago, my daughter and I went to a basketball game at her university. She told me two things that she thought would make me want to go: beer is sold, and I might get a senior citizen discount. There was beer but no discount. Great game, too.
@ductapeguy - a couple of days ago I realized my beard is more white/gray than brown, yet just a few grays in my relatively full head of brown hair. I kind of dig the gray.
[avatar]
Its the 1st here! And one of my first songs is an anthem for the geezers! Its titled “piece of the action”
[avatar]
my first song was an anthem for the Geezers https://write.fawm.org/songs/11701
[avatar]
I've been feeling old looking at new equipment and new ways to do things in recording. Turned 60 last October.... wow... I'm 60. I'm still a kid inside with a middle school sense of humor... Should I do a song about old farts? or farting? or old farts farting...
[avatar]
I turned 63 last month. All I know about being young (at any age) is "embrace the new beginnings" every day, all the time, year in year out. Each song is a new beginning, each bit of learning, each hello and goodbye.
[avatar]
58, still writing and gigging my original songs and putting a "classic-line up" ;) of one of my bands back together for a few gigs/fests later this year. Health isn't what it was but if you love something you adapt and give it your all ;)
[avatar]
Hello fellow geezers. 61 born in 61. In April I'll turn 62. Still on my list of things to do. Along with writing this song.
Thank you for the inspiration srcoops!
[avatar]
56 7th fawm in10 years, hoping for the difficult 4th album
[avatar]
I'll be 69 on the last day of March (I'm well ahead of you @chipwithrow ) and as this song I wrote yesterday proves, I am not ready to sit reminiscing in front of the fire just yet. This song could be all of us Geezer's anthem. It's called "Growing old Disgracefully"
https://write.fawm.org/songs/14450
[avatar]
We should tag any song regarding our geezer-ness with #geezer. I just posted my first one, lyrics only for now.
[avatar]
Am I a geezer at 57, when campus security at the high school where I work still mistakes me for a student?
[avatar]
and here's a song about getting older with no fear, a collab between me and the great @sherrycanary

https://write.fawm.org/songs/20474
[avatar]
Guess I’m a geezer too at 68. You’re an inspiration to me @srcoops
[avatar]
Still lyrics only but probably my favorite write so far https://write.fawm.org/songs/16112
[avatar]
@jsini
66. Been fawning since 2007.
[avatar]
@kosch
Feeling pretty young..61 come May,,but a neophyte FAWMer. 1st year.
[avatar]
67 and feel like I am reliving my teen "can't stop writing" phase. The main differences are that now the songs are less angsty, I understand song structure, and I have a choice of four instruments instead of two. The biggest change is I still write for me, but that doesn't mean every song is about me.
