Looking to write experimental songs for FAWM -I'd like to try to break out of whatever songwriting box I'm in. I like good melodies but would love to invent new ways of harmonic progressions, new song structures - but still be worth listening to! Join me please if also interested! #experimental

I’m always up for some fresh chord changes, @zackugp.

Let's see what we come up with

I've been having fun by applying compression and distortion in vast amounts, specifically to nudge out harmonic tones in the distortion. Any melody that may emerge is then built of the juiciest harmonics.

I don't know if that counts.

I wanted to note that the one hour song skirmishes are a great place to experiment in a time-constrained environment. It helps constrain the experiment so that instead of six hours of experiments yielding one song, six-hours of experiment yields six songs.

It also helps prevent overthinking the process.

If the goal is to run the experiment and not just think about the experiment, the possibility of an experiment being a failure should be very real, but it also shouldn't be disheartening. When an experiment fails, if you've lost just one-hour of time with it, it feels like a lot less of a big deal than if you've lost a week's worth of time to it.
