I’m so frustrated with songwriting when…

[avatar]
@leepat
it’s time for the chorus but the dog has to pee…
[avatar]
My husband has just put dinner on the table and I'm in the middle of putting a melody to my lyrics.
[avatar]
...what I hear in my headphones is not what I heard in my head.
[avatar]
@janeg
I realize that just about everything in my lyrics needs editing
[avatar]
When I realize it's the same chord progression as my last song just different key
[avatar]
The page remains blank even though I'm flooded with thoughts
[avatar]
@ltunes
I've moved through a key change and can't find my way back :-)
[avatar]
I can't do all nighters like when I was younger.
[avatar]
... I can see the perfect word/ chord/ note shining in a fog just ahead of me, and I can't quite reach it.
[avatar]
...I wrote 14 songs on January 31st and now I need to take a month-long nap.
[avatar]
My job won't accept FAWM as a good reason to call out.
[avatar]
...when I think everyone will think this is stupid/elementary/bad/cliche/clearly from someone who is a wannabe and not a real songwriter and should stick to making video game music.
[avatar]
... it's the sober morning after a songwriting high the night before and you realize that the chords and words that hyped you up aren't all that great in plain daylight.
[avatar]
...I've been looking forward to getting back to my music nook all day to record only for the clinky radiator to turn on.
[avatar]
...I release stuff and it sinks without a trace, swallowed up and smothered by the great monster of indifference that lurks in the darkness, preying on everything that's not a TikTok meme.
[avatar]
@nadine
... the song I dislike the most is hyped
[avatar]
@andrea
I can't sleep at night because I signed up to do a collab and all I hear are crickets in my head.
[avatar]
….take 22………
[avatar]
.... I get blown off the stage by the 3rd "Hotel California" cover of the night.
[avatar]
When I wake up in the morning to read the most brilliant idea I had in the middle of the night and my barely legible note says something like, "toasted, but on the inside!"
[avatar]
…..when I’m not songwriting.
[avatar]
...when someone walks by, makes a passing suggestion without a thought.... and they're right.
[avatar]
When I get the song arranged and fleshed in only to find out I hate it after all.
[avatar]
I touch my gtr and suddenly my family have very important to talk to me. 😁
[avatar]
My anxiety tells me it's safer and less painful to simply never write again.
[avatar]
When I realize it's the same chord progression as my last song AND in the same key (sorry @mommasmuse, couldn't resist)
[avatar]
@axl
... again I notice it has taken me 10 minutes of playful enjoyment to come up with chords, a melody and a complete arrangement and 3.5 hours of intense struggle to write one verse and half a chorus of lyrics.
[avatar]
@cblack
...when I know the guitar I just recorded sounded awesome, but playing the recording back sounds so awful I want to just delete it instantly.
[avatar]
... when I'm three quarters of the way through writing the final verse of my song, like what I've got so far, and then realise I'll never find a word that rhymes and fits the meaning I want to convey.
[avatar]
....the recording of the desperately improvised but absolutely wonderful sung melody...hasn't...
[avatar]
Lol… all of the above! Plus…… “ when I sit down to write and think and think and nothing comes out and I feel like I’ve got nothing to say“
[avatar]
@cblack
...when I have more than 3 works in progress, meaning none will actually get finished during FAWM.
[avatar]
@nadine
... accidentally wrote a song that sounds like a well known classic
[avatar]
…when perfectionism takes over, and my brain forces me to want to make a specific song type, and not just let it flow naturally🪂
[avatar]
....I promise myself I'll remember that lyric or that hook and I don't have to write it down, and then...
[avatar]
When I’m almost finished with a song and realize it needs to go in a completely different direction!
[avatar]
@jorh
… I write a chorus, then try write a verse but end up writing another chorus…so go back to the drawing board and then inevitably craft another chorus
[avatar]
@jorh I was just about to say the same thing... I always end up writing the chorus first and maybe some later verses but the first verse is hard!
[avatar]
@jorh
@kathrynhoss the bane of my songwriting life ha… it’s the curse of the second verse for me, I usually forget entirely how to form lyrics when i get to that part 🙈😂
[avatar]
@thetau
When you find out that there is no such thing as Gravity, because the whole planet sucks
[avatar]
When I have to name my songs. I have to remind myself that I need to write from a theme.
[avatar]
@erbaer
...the exact things that limit me are the same things I rely on most to get anywhere.
[avatar]
... I get home for a 4-hour writing and recording block and realize I have no caffeine in the apartment!
[avatar]
@kr521
When the mic I was planning on leaning on for most of FAWM craps out a few days before it starts
[avatar]
When my stringed instruments invariably slip out of intonation in mid February due to the climate around here and I can’t get a take that is in tune. OR, I am really coming along on a song and my wife sends me THE text….”could you turn down some? It’s kinda loud “. But I don’t have to deal with that so much anymore, thankfully….I’m still married, but have a more isolated space to play and record.
[avatar]
@jamkar
Hit record. (No I didn’t.) :-(
[avatar]
...I realize that the chorus I just wrote is really for a different song than the one I'm working on...
[avatar]
Thought of another -- when I can't figure out what chord I'm hearing in my head (i.e. it's not one I know on my fretboard).

Oh, and also when I realize I just accidentally copied a line of melody I used in another song.
[avatar]
@kiffa
...I write one verse that I fall in love with, and then can't write another one that I feel measures up to it
[avatar]
Frustratingly and always... I get the spark of a song, a progression or a lyric.... and from the time it takes me to reach down and pick up a guitar, I've forgotten it.
[avatar]
How to cordage the headphones vs the instrument, usually takes me a month to figure out, then I forget "how" again eleven months later.
