it’s time for the chorus but the dog has to pee…

My husband has just put dinner on the table and I'm in the middle of putting a melody to my lyrics.

...what I hear in my headphones is not what I heard in my head.

I realize that just about everything in my lyrics needs editing

When I realize it's the same chord progression as my last song just different key

The page remains blank even though I'm flooded with thoughts

I've moved through a key change and can't find my way back :-)

I can't do all nighters like when I was younger.

... I can see the perfect word/ chord/ note shining in a fog just ahead of me, and I can't quite reach it.

...I wrote 14 songs on January 31st and now I need to take a month-long nap.

My job won't accept FAWM as a good reason to call out.

When I wake up in the morning to read the most brilliant idea I had in the middle of the night and my barely legible note says something like, "toasted, but on the inside!"

...when someone walks by, makes a passing suggestion without a thought.... and they're right.

When I get the song arranged and fleshed in only to find out I hate it after all.

I touch my gtr and suddenly my family have very important to talk to me. 😁

My anxiety tells me it's safer and less painful to simply never write again.

... again I notice it has taken me 10 minutes of playful enjoyment to come up with chords, a melody and a complete arrangement and 3.5 hours of intense struggle to write one verse and half a chorus of lyrics.

...when I know the guitar I just recorded sounded awesome, but playing the recording back sounds so awful I want to just delete it instantly.

... when I'm three quarters of the way through writing the final verse of my song, like what I've got so far, and then realise I'll never find a word that rhymes and fits the meaning I want to convey.

When I’m almost finished with a song and realize it needs to go in a completely different direction!

… I write a chorus, then try write a verse but end up writing another chorus…so go back to the drawing board and then inevitably craft another chorus

@jorh I was just about to say the same thing... I always end up writing the chorus first and maybe some later verses but the first verse is hard!

@kathrynhoss the bane of my songwriting life ha… it’s the curse of the second verse for me, I usually forget entirely how to form lyrics when i get to that part 🙈😂

When my stringed instruments invariably slip out of intonation in mid February due to the climate around here and I can’t get a take that is in tune. OR, I am really coming along on a song and my wife sends me THE text….”could you turn down some? It’s kinda loud “. But I don’t have to deal with that so much anymore, thankfully….I’m still married, but have a more isolated space to play and record.

Thought of another -- when I can't figure out what chord I'm hearing in my head (i.e. it's not one I know on my fretboard).

Oh, and also when I realize I just accidentally copied a line of melody I used in another song.

Frustratingly and always... I get the spark of a song, a progression or a lyric.... and from the time it takes me to reach down and pick up a guitar, I've forgotten it.

How to cordage the headphones vs the instrument, usually takes me a month to figure out, then I forget "how" again eleven months later.
