Well here we are, just 6 hours into FAWM 2023 and I am just blown away at the amazing songs being written and posted!

I would like to start this thread off by recommending a new one by @grayland called Too Proud! I have already listened to it several times and love it so much! So dang good!!!

This just knocks me out. Every bit of it: the casual delivery of all those words, the variety in the rhythms and speeds, the voice quality, the homespun harmonies. And the LYRICS -- fresh lines, internal rhymes, every beat in place, so much pleasure on the surface, so much meaning underneath. Did I mention it's insanely catchy? Well, it's insanely catchy. This is great songwriting.

@billwhite51 has another song further up the thread, but I've really been enjoying a lot of his work this FAWM. It's authentic (but also timeless) sounding, it's written honestly (like all of his stuff), his voice is painful and gives me the feels, it's just the whole package. I had to e-mail the link to a songwriter friend of mine as well (she's not doing FAWM but I think her musical spirit is similar).

Found so many great tracks because of this thread so I wanna give back. @sollis is making chill guitar driven lofi tracks with great ear for catchy hooks. I'm actually recommending the only track of his I haven't commented on (don't ask why) because that very opening phrase is so damn sweet. And it's an improvised piece! one of my favorite singers and one of my favorite lyricists have created what is to me the top song of february's fawm. perfect in every way, with its several levels inviting us to go deeper or to stay afloat. the song is like the ocean, we see a lot of water but there is even more down below the surface. jeff's singing is absolutely fantastic, with a tonal quality somewhere between marty robbins anrd roy orbison, and phrasing that proves he understands every word he is singing.

with @davidtaro and @brisk collaborating, you know this is going to be a good one. but they exceed all expectations with this song about human limitations and the despair of not being able to help those who need our help the most. david is always an outstanding and compelling singer, but this time he knocks it right off the clef with notes that i never knew existed. a fabulous performance of a song with a message vital to us all.
