anyone doing story telling type stuff?

@rxzzo
just wanted to see who else is doing story telling type stuff :)

I wrote sort of a story telling one today but have not finished it yet. Inspired by someone very close to me who passed last June, and the #superhero prompt. I will probably try to finish it before FAWMover
[avatar]
Of course! Probably not all of them, but some, for sure.
[avatar]
Absolutely! Here's a lovely story,

Its on my list, I do something spoken word-ish each challenge

I had one come out today that turned out to be a very personal autobiographical type of story.

I love doing story-telling stuff, though sometimes I do not tell a whole story, but only a few scenes, a meeting, a moment... IMHO, sometimes no need to tell all the details of a story, but just to give some "key-impressions" or more or less hidden clues and it is up to the reader/listener to complete the parts of the puzzle to a complete story, which will differ from one individual to the other by default...

Most of my songs are a story.

@gubna
I just finished a weird spoken word and guitar piece called Story Time. It's amazing how you can take 20 minutes writing the words down but then it takes hours to finally get it recorded because of technical difficulties and cats. hungry cats always take up more time.

i love story telling!! whenever i write about a specific subject, i try to tell a story without explicitly mentioning what the subject is/elements of that subject, kind of like vagueposting. it's a nice parameter to set because it forces me to rely on literary devices and subjective language rather than literal language

@kludge
My first song this year was a story, and I’m sure I’ll have more. Most of my songs are stories, really. Story songs are no different from any other fiction… you need compelling characters and a plausible but challenging situation. Story can be filler if the characters are awesome. Characters can be cardboard if the story is what matters most.

I first joined FAWM in 2021, and every year since, I have created a 28-chapter "improvel" (sorry), an improvised musical novel (purely instrumental) played on a variety of instruments. The three I've done so far, including this year's, form a trilogy.

Trying to do FAWM to make an album based off of the story of two people who are in a relationship but aren't good for each other. I have some songs already written for the album that aren't part of FAWM but if anyone's curious ill try posting them on my profile ^^

I used to for past FAWMs, but I found it slowed me down too much. Trying to figure out a plot and things for characters to do took more time than getting the actual song sorted out. I was spending too much time on the lyrics.

Here's a story song. True but for a few tiny dramatic embelisments.

My album is a story - I like it that way - the structure keeps me sane and moving

I wrote a folktronic storyteller about a tourist paradise where we get to meet a cast of local characters but disaster lurks just beneath the surface.

I'm doing one now, that's fictional, but based on a real place. In the meantime, here's one where nothing happens - some observations, trying to capture the atmosphere in our new local. https://write.fawm.org/songs/12124

I wrote one about a fictional girl told from the narrators point of view.

This is actually one of the aims I’ve set myself this year, to try write some more story driven lyrics - for the last few years I’ve been writing more pop, often with a health dose of innuendo, so trying to switch it up. Here’s one I wrote the other day telling a story through time before the pay off in the final verse. I surprisingly pleased myself with it:

@ryako is doing another "choose your own adventure" story this year. Commenters vote on what happens next. Very cool idea.

I have a couple that I'm working on. I have never considered myself a legit lyricist, I mostly use vocals as another sonic element. One of the things I dislike most about my stuff is that I feel it lacks depth, my favorite songs have stories yet I never take the time to write any. One song I should be releasing during FAWM I am particularly excited for. I've spent a couple days on premise alone.

@aholla
Still finalizing my IO concept album about a broken family relationship at the micro and broken society on the macro level.

@fuzzy
Yeah, definitely.
I like to do surreal and bizarre spoken word things at least a couple of times every FAWM and 50/90.
Here's my first one, a short horror story about a guy who has a house full of bones.

@ryako
Thanks for the shoutout @headfirstonly !

Yes, I'm doing a Choose Your Own Adventure story which I make up as I go along. Seriously, I sit down and think about what happens next. I count the votes after 24 hours of posting, then go from there. Last year was a Fantasy story. This year, it's a Science Fiction Murder Mystery!!!

I'm paying attention to people's comments, as well, so I will include things FAWMers write or remark upon. I am waiting to see if people pick up on any themes and I LOVE when people start guessing where things are going. I think FAWMers are such a smart bunch and I hope I can weave a mystery that isn't too easy to solve.
