Unfaithful

by @mattwdunn

Liner Notes

Today felt like I needed to blast some guitars and lean into the Manic Street Preachers for inspiration. Another dark lyric from my brother. I actually cleaned some of this one up as it was a bit too much.

The chorus sounds huge (to me) which is my comfort zone

Lyrics

Smear lipstick on your lips
Watch the sunrise after the eclipse
Pass it around like all your joy
Sing Bethlehem then sigh

So God where you been?
My knees are bruised can't you see
It's not your fault
It's your hour of need
And what would I give
For you to comfort me
I'm so tired of being lonely

Form a queue for free relief
My name spread like some disease
Pass it around like some bad dream
Accuse me of things I've never seen

So God where you been?
My knees are bruised can't you see
It's not your fault
It's your hour of need
And what would I give
For you to comfort me
I'm so tired of being lonely

So God where you been?
My knees are bruised can't you see
It's not your fault
It's your hour of need
And what would I give
For you to comfort me
I'm so tired of being lonely

Ha! You’re right! #axisprogressions, baby! I love how different the sound is for Unfaithful and Thank You It’s True, and yet…
And speaking of sound, you totally nailed the Manic Street Preachers sound here. Do you know their song Dylan & Caitlin? That song holds a special place in my heart because Dylan is my late brother’s name.

Man, your harmonies are so tight. Again, the solo is an absolute ripper. Love the guitar sound too, very 90s alt-rock, which is amazing.

I like the insistent piano riffs driving this while the melody floats around it and then in come those raw guitars. YES!

I agree the contrast between the verses and chorus works a treat - the guitar work is seriously great in the chrouses! I like how the lyric is open to some interpretation too

Nice breezy Send Away/Ultra Vivid vibes. Pretty sweet you got Slash to do a solo on one of your demos!

Yes, the solo is lovely - wish I could bash out something like that. I'm intrigued that you toned it down a bit, but the words work nicely as is. There's an epic feel to the whole thing, and you are right, that is a big chorus. I thought the opening verse, just in terms of setting the scene, does a great job too.

The synths and vocal processing stand out in this for me. Those are great sounds. Love the contrast between them and the heavier chorus. Awesome guitar solo as well! 🤘
