Looking at Different Moons

by @stevemepsted

Liner Notes

Here is song number three. This ones a little tune about missing someone who's on the other side of the world. I like to imagine we are both looking at the night sky together but their moon is upside down and 9 hours ahead of mine! A simple production which could be nicely fleshed out in the future. Quite happy with this but I feel it could benefit from a tighter structure and perhaps a different middle eight. Also forgive my voice on this but Im recovering from a nasty head cold! #moons #picking #singer_songwriter #love_song

Lyrics

Here’s a list – of all the things I miss
A diagram and a five-point plan
I write these words to send you a letter
To let you know I do the best I can

Went out last night to see the Northern Lights
Found a burned-out candle on a building site
But I’m not blue – I’m just muddling through
I’ve got nothing to do
Except wait for you

I’m looking up to find you in the night sky
I’m hoping to see you soon
We both stand on the surface of the same spinning world
But we’re looking at different moons
Yes, we’re looking at different moons

We are in orbit, spinning through space
And in two hundred revolutions, we’ll be back in the same place
Am I pushing forwards? Are you pulling back?
I hope it's true that opposites attract.

And every day, is just the same
I’ve grown accustomed to this waiting game
But I’m not blue – I’ m just muddling through
I’ve got nothing to do
Except wait for you

I’m looking up to find you in the night sky
I’m hoping to see you soon
We both stand on the surface of the same spinning world
But we’re looking at different moons
Yes, we’re looking at different moons

As time marches on, am I still the one?
All these questions and answers and riddles
And on a scale, between dead and all’s well
I’m somewhere in the middle
Stuck in the middle with you

Oh, this is beautiful. That guitar is incredible, and I love the way you sing it - so much emotion. Interesting to think about love on opposite sides of the world. I'm so glad to have found your music. Look forward to listening to the rest this month.

Enjoyed this. Nice musical backdrop. Real nice guitar playing.

Strangely, that head cold makes you sound quite a lot like Clapton! Gorgeous little blues guitar intro and subsequent solo, very accomplished. This is a really cracking song.

The fast fingerpick with that tasty acoustic lead are magic and captured my attention right away! This tune is esoteric and relaxing, the harmonies are unusual yet they work quite well. Very creative composition. I enjoyed this listen alot!!

nice song Steve! I like the simplicity of it. Nice set of lyrics which really paint the picture you are going for.

lovely vibe. i really like the harmonies and the lead guitar has a nice space in the mix. fave line... "But I’m not blue – I’ m just muddling through", also "And on a scale, between dead and all’s well
I’m somewhere in the middle" nice concept for a song.

I like the phrasing on the long lines. Nice execution of a good concept.

Good melody as it really captures the feeling of longing well. I think any raspiness in your voice fits the mood of the song well.
