Like California

Liner Notes

Getting over a mean case of the salmonella, but managed to squeak this one out today. Broke out the e-bow with another title from Titular, and this came out.

Was thinking a lot today about long love and how it can sometimes bring you to the same places over and over again.

I'm from California, for the record.

Lyrics

I’ve got something to say
Been biting my tongue for days
Waiting to find a way
To get it out

You steal me away
It’s part of the day to day
But sometimes the words escape
Before I let ‘em out

We’ve been swinging on this old trapeze
But you and I’ve seen everything

Like California
Waves licking shorelines
Nobody warns ya
Until it’s your time

And when you wake up
You think you might die
Looking for somewhere
Some place you might hide

Like California

I’ve got something to ask
Remember how in the past
Nothing was built to last
Well how bout us

We’ve been marking out a path of gold
But where it’s headed no one knows

Like California
Not a cloud in sight
Nobody warns ya
Until it’s your time

And when you wake up
You feel the sunlight
Looking for somewhere
Some place you might hide

Like California

We’ve been swinging on this old trapeze
But you and I’ve seen everything

Man, your production is exemplary. Really great work. Special mention for the keys and those awesome lead tones. Getting a tiny hint of Coldplay’s The Scientist with that chorus. Love that trapeze line in the pre-chorus! I feel like California is just one of those names that could support 1000 songs! This one is very very nice 👍

This is just what I wanted to hear tonight. Love that Bridge at the 2-minute mark. Your voice would work well in a variety of styles.Glad I found you on a Random Song search.

I am digging this. I like those chord progressions a lot. It's got a throwback nostalgic vibe. Super smooth. Nice work!

In my song called "The Ghost of Daniel Johnston" I suggest (channeling Daniel) to go to the light and possibly move to California. One of my stipulations to myself on Feb 1 was to use a state name in every song. I've mostly failed on that front...

This song is extremely polished, just like your others. It's a great chord progression that is repetitious but doesn't get old. Your voice is nice and smoky and reminds me of Jason Martin who is also from CA. Great job.
