Polaris (Instrumental)

Liner Notes

#piano #sad #indie_pop

So this one is somewhat barebones, but to be fair the piano and drum parts were a lot of work. This is meant to be sort of a climactic reprisal to my other song Pale Blue. tl;dr: It's about missing my dog. If you want a little more context, I wrote more on that song's liner notes. Suffice it to say this is a massive cathartic release in sonic form. I needed to write this.

As with the others, I will be adding vocals and more soon!

Lyrics

Cloudless night
A universe inert to me
And yet it feels alright
So why would you cry?
There's some phantom
in the corner of my eye

I summon all my will to smile
I left it somewhere underneath the pile

You see it?
The North Star
It shines so brilliantly
You are the only thing that's guiding me
Polaris
My only friend
Don't ever go away
Don't ever go away

Passing by
A passionate pariah
still observing from the side
So why do you try?
There's a lesson
buried in the back of my mind

I falter with the grace of a grunt
Pale Artemis is on the hunt

You see it?
The North Star
It shines so brilliantly
You are the only thing that's guiding me
Polaris
My only friend
Don't ever go away
Don't ever go away
A notion
Epiphany
An apple from the tree
it hits my head, awakens me
Polaris
Shining down on
the lost and thrown away
The pain won't go away

Oh, Polaris
There is power in all of the love that you give
Beautiful pale blue world
And though it rushes outward, the tide rolls back in
Seventeen years, chasing away all the monsters within

Oh, pale blue
There could never be any replacement for you
My pale blue, beautiful boon
The bond that connects us will always persist
Oh, Polaris
My compass, my love still attached at the hip
Never forget

The sonic contrast between the dreamy far away piano and the front and centre drums works really well. The arrangement will really enhance the moodiness of the lyric.
