I was a 2021 FAWMling back when I was unemployed and had lots of time on my hands. 2022 worked out pretty well as my new job wasn’t too demanding. Holy 2023 though, business is booming, how on EARTH will I make the time for writing 14 songs?! I am bound and determined to make it happen. Deep breaths!

I tend to write #FolkPop #IndiePop type music, but sometimes I surprise myself with a bit of #PopPunk here and there. My instruments of choice are piano and guitar, an occasional ukulele. Instead of driving myself crazy with GarageBand this year, I think I’ll stick with #OneTake videos so I can worry less about production and more about getting the frickin songs written.

I’m thinking of coming up with a common theme to somehow tie all my FAWM2023 songs together. I of course reserve the right to change my mind, ha! First thought was “Words I Tell Myself”.

Whew. We made it indeed. The highest of fives to you, I'm super proud of what we created.
[avatar]
@caitlin - I even flipped all the way over to my profile to tag you and boast about my acrobatic anole self!
[avatar]
I’m a flipping chameleon and I love trying different genres, so there!
[avatar]
Congrats on exceeding 14, Caitlin! Really enjoying your tunes and I look forward to collaborating soon. Have a great week.

@nadine
Thank you, Caitlin! I'm glad you enjoyed "No Time For Blues". Playing the boogie on the piano has been harder than I expected. I improvised the left hand with the typical boogie bassline and hope that this is right.
[avatar]
@nadine
Definately. I wish I had a rock voice like Taylor Momsen and belt out clean, distorted and fry screams on top of a djenty metalcore backing track that I wrote on a 8 string electric guitar in 7/8 signature at 150 BPM. This will take 10 years or never happen 😥
[avatar]
@nadine
You're welcome! As for your question is there's nothing I can't do... sure there is. Don't ask me for atonal, experimental, ambient or classical music, sing a ballad in breathy falsetto, write lyrics in other languages than English, or play beyond 150 BPM. You must me glad that I didn't try 😂
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you! Yes, I really enjoy the music 😀
[avatar]
@nadine
Hey Caitlin, "I love my life" finally received some music. Feel free to check out!
[avatar]
Thank you! Thank you! Look at all your songs! I'll be back to listen when things are less hectic.
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you, Caitlin! I bet John raised at least one eyebrow when he recorded this. Thanks also for your kind words on the rhyme. I wanted to stick to a very constant rhyme scheme and added the weirdest words resulting in a funny lyric :)
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your comment! It means a lot to me because I spend a lot of time on the vampire song. Thank you <3
[avatar]
Hi Caitlin, I emailed you the mp3 of “Thank You…” Let me know if you didn’t get it and I’ll send it again!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening and commenting on "Land Wife/Water Wife." Don't worry about not understanding it; that happens a lot with my songs. If I ever figure it out myself, I'll let you know! ;-)
[avatar]
@brisk
Thanks for that comment, that's a good one to walk away from the computer on! I like this one, but I'm feeling a bit uncertain about it precisely because it is such a "safe" target to pick on homophobes, and to smugly insist that their violence is ackshully borne from their forbidden yearnings. But at the same time, of to hell with it. It's really about hypocrites more than it is about being smug about an (increasingly irrelevant) outgroup of haterz. Anyway, thanks!

@ohdeer
I will get to the Harmony tomorrow!

How do I get to the file?
[avatar]
Congrats on 14! I really enjoy your style. Thanks for sharing. If you ever want to collaborate let me know. Rock on! 🎸
[avatar]
First, congrats on making it to 14. Yay!! Second thank you for the great comments on “Inside Out”. Those mental health songs can be a little rough.
[avatar]
Hey, Caitlin - I'm loving your music. Looking forward to listening to so much more. Thank you for listening to Six More Weeks of Chemo. I was amazed with what Rod did with it, and felt moved that it moved you.
[avatar]
So kind of you Caitlin, truly I am fine now!! Two rounds of antibiotics and a steroid pack later. You've really rocked this FAWM!! Congrats!!
[avatar]
@johns
Thanks for your comments on Meditation, Gordon did a great job with the music.
[avatar]
@mikeb
Thanks for the comment on 'Rendezvous'!
[avatar]
Caitlin, Thanks so much for being the first commenter on Something for Nothing. I agree with you that Ed did a wonderful job with these lyrics. I couldn't be happier. Glad you liked it, too.

@b3nut
Thanks so much for your kind comments on Instrument Of Control!

@nadine
Congrats for winning FAWM!

Bro. Broooooooo. You WON!

@jeff9
Thanks, Caitlin, for the compliment on "Sounds Like a Song". Did my best to hang in there with Mike's rich baritone but it felt like mine sounded like Mickey Mouse by comparison.
[avatar]
Hi, Caitlin. Would you send me an email? I have a lyric I'd like to show you. Just click the envelope icon at the top of my page.
Thanks,
Patty

@andrea
Thank you for checking out Lake Willoughby. I appreciate your kind and thoughtful comments on my collaboration with @jacobeverettwallace
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you. I came here with no expectations so I'm fine that I had some fun :)
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you Caitlin! Ha I didn't expect you to count the words I used. I just took the two syllable ones for the metric. Yes, I guess I just hit the wall and stop writing songs for this FAWM. I will get some stems to update some songs or upload 2-3 new ones. Maybe I should just sit back and relax.

@beacon
Thanks @katestantonsings for introducing me to @caitlin. Following now! I'm completely selfish in wanting to sing with Kate, but if her voice won't make it, will be happy to have to join our song. There might be a need for a fill in for Song 2 also. Let's see how Kate's voice recovers and what we'll figured out how we can use your great voice!
[avatar]
Thank you so much Caitlin!! I took tomorrow and Monday off from work to rest up. I'll be sure to update both you and @beacon. Thank you so much!
You're rocking--14 songs will be here before you know it!! Great work.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on ‘Tell me you love me’. Unfortunately I was imagining :-)
[avatar]
Thanks again for your comments on "Tantalizingly Just Out Of Reach". And your compliment on my vocal/voice! :-)
[avatar]
I’d love to get some of your amazing harmonies on “Pardon My French!”
[avatar]
Thanks so much for you and @daveescoffery ‘s thoughtful comments on Name! I would love it if you felt like sharing the song with your kids too. I’m definitely planning on recording it and releasing it at some point. Thanks for your encouragement
[avatar]
Thank you so much, Caitlin. All sounds wonderful. I enjoyed listening to your beautiful vocals. Looking forward to collaborating again.

[avatar]
Yay! So glad you love it! Thanks for the great song and the inspiration! I don’t know how collab songs work but feel free to add your own comments in the description if you can!
[avatar]
Thanks for your contribution to Rocket!

@nadine
I just read your comment on our song. Super cool that you did the research. The quote fits seamlessly into the lyrics :)

Thanks for checking out Can't Resist. I love your comments!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to Breath! I spent a few years in Philly, back when...Go Iggles! I will listen to your solo stuff, too, but so far, I really dig your songs with @ampersandman. You two rock.
[avatar]
Thank you for the great feedback. It means a lot
[avatar]
Hi Caitlin. Thank you so much for your beautiful collaboration with @nadine and me. I'm sorry for not interructing with you directly. Nadine was sending me her messages, keeping me in the loop and I felt it would be good to give you the opportunity to go with your artistic feeling and freedom of expression. I love the lyrics you created and your vocals are beautiful. I hope we could collaborate again when you have an opportunity. Thank you again,
Nadia

Let's do a song!! Say when - but no rush if you're swamped. Really glad I have new friend in PA. Great city! What DAW do you use? I am in Pro Tools...
[avatar]
Your comment TOTALLLLLLY made my day!!!! THANK YOU! Off to check out more of your work! Thank you so much for the extremely kind and inspiring note.
[avatar]
@nadine
You're welcome! Thanks for recording the vocals so quickly. I updated the song info and informed everybody who commented. I wouldn't mind starting an e-mail group for further communication.
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you Caitlin! Yes, I was VERY bored cause most of my hobbies rely on electricity. Right now I don't find the motivation to draw or read something...
[avatar]
@b3nut
Thank you for the listen and comments on Recombobulate Me! Had fun putting that one together!
[avatar]
Oh, the Manics are my favourite band ever. Dylan and Caitlin is an amazing tune. Sorry to hear about your brother. Your parents loved named you both well
[avatar]
You are more than welcome. ‘Ride it out’ is my favourite track from any artist this year so far. Amazing song!!
[avatar]
@brisk
Oh, thanks for breaking out an Elvis Costello comparison, I'm actually only a fair weather listener (greatest hits level), but I was aiming for his acerbic tone, so that's wonderful. I think in retrospect I got the POV a little bit muddy. Potentially, anyway. I can't work out whether it's saying quite what I want it to say, how I want it to say - but that's what my NEXT lullaby rant at rich people is for!
[avatar]
@atam94
Hey thanks for the kind words on "Super Smash Brothers Melee"!! I'm glad the random song button worked out for you, too 😂
[avatar]
Aw, thanks for the comment on my soundboard, Caitlin! Love to you and your kiddos! 💜
[avatar]
HELL YES YOU DID! Email link in my profile, so like, share, and subscribe to all my self-deprecating excuses!
[avatar]
I mean, thanks for the compliment or whatever, but, really, my song totally sucked and it had 79 mistakes in it that I will painstakingly point out to you unless you reach out to do a collaboration on some lo-fi indie rock.

(not a guarantee)
[avatar]
Oh, and THANK YOU for the compliment. Sheesh, you'd think I'd learn something from your song :D
[avatar]
Hey Caitlin! Yeah, I'll try it out! I didn't have my next song planned yet, and I was just thinking that I'd like to collaborate with someone this year. What's the key?
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed "Pay it forward"! I hope it's OK for you when we wait a bit and decide together with @musicsongwriter as we have multiple requests.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your kind words about Let Go! I'm also in Philly - good to meet you :)
[avatar]
@mikeb
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Spark'! Guest vocalists will be so much better than me!
[avatar]
I see you're a fan of harmony! Thanks for the words! I feel your struggle this year with finding time to write. I'll find some time to check out your music soon, though. :)
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks a lot! Kids in America has a great energy!
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your comment! I seem to have found my inner demon :D No weird effects on top just EQ and compression.
[avatar]
Hey Caitlin... Thank you for the well wishes.
Yeah, that long-covid sucks. I have a weird neuromuscular thing that makes my hands (and feet) cramp. As you might imagine, during a days or week long flare up, kinda makes it hard to work a fretboard.

A little shortness of breath makes it difficult to sing. Of course, I wasn't much of a singer to begin with so not much of a loss right? 😂

Happy FAWMing to you my friend. Muah!
[avatar]
Hi Caitlin, thank you very much for replying to my thread. Indeed your voice sounds very much like what I had in mind. So I’d say let’s try! Maybe pass me your email address or write me so once I have something I can send it to you?
I can’t wait to start, I already have some basic song ideas in my head.
[avatar]
Happy FAWM! Here’s to another month of amazing music from my favorite songwriter!
[avatar]
Welcome back to another FAWM! I wish you a great February!
[avatar]
@nadine
Welcome back Caitlin! Ready to rock?
[avatar]
Heya Newlywed <3 Thanks for coming to the vocalist workshop this FAWMstock! Will you and yours have time for FAWM? I hope you're doing well, Caitlin!! Always a pleasure seeing your comments and hearing your sweet sweet voice.
