Seattle guy, and over 60 now. How's that possible? Retired from the US Air Force after 24 years of service. Friends from college gave me the moniker I use for my display name -- Cowboy Dick. I'm a writer nowadays, fiction and screenplays and -- more recently -- songs, some of which will be posted here. Widowed not long ago; the grief I feel for losing the man of my dreams finds its way into some of the lyrics (which, I admit, are unapologetically gay). The microphone seems to be a bit out of tune sometimes when I sing, and my piano certainly deserves someone more talented than me to bang on it. But I do my best and don't worry; hope the stuff is heartfelt (or at least smartass enough) to make you reflect or smile. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the listens and the kind words! Band In A Box is pretty crazy powerful, I feel like I have a bunch of top-flight studio musicians I can "teach" my songs to and produce quick demos with. The UI is maddening, it's taken me years of dabbling with it to where I finally can move pretty quickly with it and get something I like. And I still feel like it probably does a whole lot more I'm not using yet, but will keep learning!

Hi!

I wanted to give you an extra thank you for listening to "Taking the Trash." It was a fun project in spite of the complications of getting it to work. It gave some subversive glee to work out a couple ice cream changes on the Digitone and record them in Ableton. I suspect I'll re-visit the tune and remove Mr. King's lyrics before he sends his lawyers after me.

Thanks for the comments on Down on the Good Night (and others). Looks like you had a very productive FAWM this year! I got a little busy mid-month and never got back in! Oh well, 2024…

@dutch
Thanks Cowboy! Glad you got a kick out of TOGETHER. We had fun recording it.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment. Love that Fleetwood Mac song. I think it’s actually on Rumors!

@atam94
thanks for giving "Bowling Alley Jukebox" a listen and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it!
[avatar]
Like it or not, you've got 15 songs now :)
[avatar]
Hey, no worries! I’m going to free time it. It’ll be great in that ragged way that my stuff always is. FSY is all about beginners mind to the bitter end 😀
[avatar]
so, no thoughts about tempo? maybe you could send a file with the click added. There's the meandering bits between the crashy bits, and I have a hard time counting that
[avatar]
Thank You CowboyDick, for you commentary on my song E Pluribus Unum. The gravely voice comes from using it too much recently. I love Willy Nelson so I appreciate the comparison
[avatar]
I'm overflowing with ideas at the moment, but maybe I'll screw around with shakedown. Make it downloadable in soundcloud

@dutch
Thanks Cowboy! Glad you like FRAME BY FRAME

@kristi
Thanks for your nice words on my last two lyrics! Good catch with the copyright year...thanks...I've fixed it now!

@atam94
I'm really glad you enjoyed "Night Drives In Our Old Town" and I do plan on doing more in a similar style for sure 😊
[avatar]
Thanks again for your encouraging comments on my songs this year! I’ve been squeezing this into a busy month… your comments help me continue to carve out the time to create!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to Obsolete Heart. I'm a fan of TMBG too!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening and your kind comments.
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind words on Connected - very much appreciated
[avatar]
hey thanks for your comments on my new song - i used my typing keyboard because garage band has a function where you can turn your typing keyboard into a midi controller. its awful, but its functional!
[avatar]
Thanks for the lovely comments on the skirmish.
[avatar]
Thank you for your nice words. Not sure why I haven’t heard you before, but I’ll be back to listen in!

@mikeb
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Ghosts of Copper Mountain'!
[avatar]
Hey thank you! Ive been having a blast! And America is def an influence for me. :D
[avatar]
Hey, thanks for that blast from the past. I haven't thought about "Flaming Desire" in decades.

I took your suggestion and made an instrumetal version, taking the opportunity to make a couple other updates as well. It turned out that without the lyrics I could clip a few more bars and now it's not just sweet, it's short an' sweet. I've added a link to the updated version on the song page, but if you'd care to listen, here's the link:

https://www.robertkmyers.com/fawm2023/robertmyers_fawm_2023__06_cotton_candy_instrumental.mp3

I think this version would make a great album closer. Thanks, again!

Thank you for the comment on my song!
[avatar]
Ahh, ok, I'm not familiar with the Mark Twain quote but I did wonder if the "pen" in the song might have something to do with that given its proximity to the line about liking the king's men, hehe.
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out my song and for your feedback :)
[avatar]
Hi there. Sorry to hear about your partner. That’s a real kick in the heart. I hope it’s getting better. Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment on my song.
[avatar]
I didn't do any music. That guy is aiming to write a TON of songs and he doesn't want to get slowed down writing lyrics. He's asked people to throw whatever they have his way, with the proviso that he will do whatever he wants with the lyrics. Maybe you have something you could throw into the content-hole :)
[avatar]
Thank you for listening my music ! Have a nice FAWM !
[avatar]
Hey thank you! That means alot! I am really aiming for that 70s softrock sound for these 14 songs. :)
[avatar]
@artie
Oh dude, you gotta consider doing an album. Your songs are so consistently good.
[avatar]
Hey! Thanks for you comments on All Sound, No Fury! Badlands are beautiful!
[avatar]
@atam94
thanks for the comment on "Moments Like These" I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "Billionaire's Lament"! A lot (maybe most) of the lines are actually mine, including "my wives have all left," LOL. But for the sake of transparency, it's best to always give the credit to A.I. even if I use it just a little bit.
[avatar]
Generally, I don't revisit my improvs or turn them into conventional songs. I probably should. I'll occasionally solidify a harp improv and write it down.
[avatar]
Hey, Garageband plays the drums. That's just the same little loop over and over. Otherwise it's me playing the electric guitar, which such massive echo that you really can't hear what I'm doing, I hope
[avatar]
Never ready...but I'll get 14 song-like artifacts up by the end of the month. Show me what you got!
[avatar]
Well well well
