Jazz pianist / ASCAP songwriter from Washington, DC. Wrote my first song at a pretty late age, inspired by a discussion about rhubarb. Fortunately for everyone, I stopped after two vegetable songs and moved on to other subjects.

Back for my second FAWM in 2023. I loved last year's FAWM and 50/90, and am looking forward to plenty of inspiration and collaboration this month. I already have a few songs from last year that I'm planning to record and perform this year.

Check out my album "Making Up For Lost Time" to hear some of my original jazz songs. I also released two singles (so far) this year as part of my new "Groove Park" project. Look for "Island In The Sea" and "Bend Don't Break" on YouTube or your favorite streaming service.

thank you for your kind words on Glimpse I enjoyed crafting those ominous lyrics to Nadine's superb instrumentation

Hi Ohljazz!
Thanks for Putting out awesome music and for your thoughtful comments this fawm.
Youโ€™re a class act and a superb musician

Congrats on the win! See you around.

@nadine
Thanks for checking out "Glimpse", eventhough metal ain't your genre. Chris did an awesome job with the lyrics and vocals!

No doubt you'll see it on your feed, but it's live. I'm really happy with how this came out, I wish I could be a little better, but I think I did more right that wrong and I think it's a pretty powerful song.

I always love a collab where the final song isn't something that I could have done on my own, and this is right there.
[avatar]
Hey, that would work!

@ltunes
Just emailed you the vocal for "Bullet in the Night" Thanks for the fun project. I hope what I sent you is useful.

100% Canadian accent here.

Thanks for listening to my Green Boots! I have beefed up the liner notes, which may give you the context you were looking for.

Thanks ๐Ÿ™

@ltunes
Wow - cool. I'm really jazzed (drum hit) to give this a try!
[avatar]
Thanks @ltunes for your willingness to take this on! I'll be happy to transpose the tune to your key and send you a basic piano + bass track that you can sing to. I'll be happy to mix your vocal track into a full recording.

Hi @ohljazz -- I've been working with your great music on Bullet in the Night. I'm still not sure if I can nail it, but I'm happy to try. Unfortunately, to keep it in my torchy range, we are going to have to go way down (-7) to key Fm? (first note in verse would be C) if you are willing that is. I've never done a music collaboration before so what happens? Do you record the piano first, and do you play the melody the whole time (you don't need to for me). Do you send me the piano mp3 to put in my DAW so I can record vocals? If so, my email is on my profile and after I record - then what? who does final mix? I'd like to give this a try, but if it feels like too much work to you, please feel free to bow out - I would understand. - Liz

I left a comment on them... private songs actual work pretty well as collaborative spaces. I just wanted to say how neat it is to collab with someone who notates music. My sight reading is "Cat in the Hat" at best, but it's really nice to see ideas expressed visually. Cheers to that!
[avatar]
Thanks @spazsquatch ! I played with your fine lyrics and mapped them back to the music
[avatar]
Hey there, I posted a private song with you as a collaborator for our random collab. My first draft lyrics are there and I put my thoughts in the liner notes. Have a look and let me know.

Thanks so much for giving "Carolina" a spin and for the kind comment. It's really appreciated.
[avatar]
I dig it, let me play around with some ideas and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
[avatar]
I absolutely love it!!!! Thank you! I think your approach was perfect and I love your vocals!
[avatar]
Hey, right on, I love light funk grooves, and I'm all for lyric ideas as a jumping off point at the very least. If by "playing around" you mean it isn't fully formed into a structured song, you could send me what you have for me to flesh out ideas and form the song around whatever comes of that?
[avatar]
You are more than welcome to play with that song lyric! Thank you!
[avatar]
Nice sounding bass part @n1742! Thanks for recording it.

Hi Oren I wasn't sure how to send you this version of No Ducks with my bass part so here's the Soundcloud file but if you're not keen let me know and I'll take it off.

I posted a clip of my music for "Bullet In The Night" as my weekly Tunes On Tuesday video - a weekly musical clip and story about a tune that means something to me. http://ohljazz.com/2023/02/07/tunes-on-tuesday-bullet-in-the-night/

@brisk
Thanks so much for commenting on Sing To Me - and thanks for singling out the chorus. I was really pleased with it. And I wouldn't have got to without mctown's words (but perversely I had to bend those words all out of shape to fit to the tune that I finally iterated onto!)
[avatar]
Thanks @n1742 ! I'll let you know if I want to add some bass parts. waiting for some feedback from the writer on "Bullet In The Night" - I think that could be great as a proper recording
[avatar]
thank you for listening and commenting on my song : )

@n1742
