Back To Basics

Liner Notes
I have this feral urge to run Red Box D&D, the Basic set from 1983, a completely stripped down version of the game. Of course I'll use house rules--I've been DMing for 42 years, now, and there are a few things that need to be house ruled here. Mentzer didn't even put in a natural healing mechanic in the basic set. (You have to go backward to Moldvay or Holmes, but they were completely omitted from the BECMI rules, and if you understood what I was just talking about, then you're likely a grognard or game historian.)
In any case, this is a weird little song about that. Kind of.

Lyrics
What a beautiful mess we’ve made of having fun,
How much damage was done, although the plans we had were grand.
We took the controls and turned them up to the max,
Until we flew off the tracks, and maybe now it’s out of hand.
We got turned around, need our feet on the ground just to slow down the spin,
So we’re going back to basics once again.
What a gorgeous disaster we made of these games,
We stood there fanning the flames, as the worlds around us burned.
Now I sift through the ashes, willing it all to make sense,
The ruins all so immense, I wonder what we might have learned.
So lets try walking it back, try a different tack, let’s begin.
We’re going back to basics, once again.
Back to the fundamental, first steps we took:
Learning our ABCs before we could try writing the book.
Who knows what we’ll learn just by reeling it in?
We got turned around, need our feet on the ground just to slow down the spin,
So lets try walking it back, try a different tack, let’s begin.
So we’re going back to basics once again.

Great song! I really like the melody in "Back to the fundamental first steps we took" part. Jumping up into that power range of your voice sounds awesome.
