Liner Notes

#folk

Taylor GS-Mini (standard tuning, capo at 4th fret; I like playing this guitar, but I'm not sure about the sound yet--I'll try different strings soon), Lee Oskar harmonica (Xmas gift from my nephew) on holder or brace or whatever that thing is called -- I need practice (playing harmonica and finding the right spot to record from if I'm doing everything in one go), but there it is.

Wanted something done, so I gave up on a second verse and just played harmonica. Calling it good enough and posting it before I'm entirely sick of the thing and end up not posting it at all.

Lyrics

Some say I threw it all away
I say I gave it
There's nothing here but rainy days
Why then would I save it?

Hearts are for aching
Hands are for making
something that makes you feel less forsaken
Here we all are

[harmonica]

Walls are for breaking
Gifts are for taking
Find what will make you feel less forsaken
Here we all are
Here we all are
Here we all are

I love the lines "Hands are for making / something that makes you feel less forsaken" so much. This sounds like it could be in a John Prine anthology, with the simple diction and clever turns of phrase. And the harmonica sounds superb

Oh the way you capture that feeling of realizing a relationship was lonely. Really great lyric, so much with so little. Great write.

The fadeout on the harp was a perfect closing touch.

What a cool vibe. Fantastic lyrics and I love the overall tone of your voice with the instruments.

The guitar sounds great, as does the voice and harmonica. It all comes together to make a high lonesome sound that I enjoyed very much. Well done!

I like the sense of hope with the occasional tinge of melancholy; a strangely ambiguous optimism permeates the whole thing in a very nice way. The harmonica is a nice touch! Your liner note ("Calling it good enough and posting it before I'm entirely sick of the thing and end up not posting it at all.") is all too relatable, so I'm glad we got to hear it!

Enjoyed this a lot. Every line carries weight, and 'Here we all are' is a great refrain - a call for solidarity or an existential shrug, depending on your mood. (Maybe both.) Good to hear you again.

I like the simple yet effective structure of this song. Nice start to FAWM!

I think it was a nice fade out on the end. The harmonica sounds really nice.
