Reflections on old tattoos.

I wrote the lyrics in my head, thinking it was going to be a singer-songwriter acoustic situation. When I sat down to figure out chords, it just wasn't working. I couldn't seem to keep this blues-adjacent G Love and Special Sauce thing from happening.

Who I was and what I thought The condition I was in
A reward for all my patience Drawn with love and care
Filled with so much meaning Hidden from your stare

All the best intentions I hoped that it would last
now I don't know what to think a record of my past

The words on my back were once the words inside my soul
a permanent fixture of art that made me whole
I've moved on, but it's still on my shoulder
To keep me planted feet on the ground as I keep getting older

The words on my back theyre out of my own sight
oh so easy to ignore and I avoid the inner fight
a different time entirely a very different me
but we share the same body and it's who I'll always be

now I don't know what to think a record of my past

the past is past and I won't revise it
I'm just getting started and I decide it
so many phrases, yet to be composed
there's so much space still on that canvas for all of my bad prose

I'm becomming what I'm becoming and I'm glad that I still care
