Death Rides on the Wind

Liner Notes

I arrived home yesterday and stepped something wet into the carpet. Turned out to be a neat line of undigested critter, care of our cat (Stormageddon).

Not unusual, so I cleaned it up and sat down at my desk for an hour. Cat appears, curiously interested in the spot under the desk. What is that on the carpet?

Turn on the phone light. Under my desk is the grisly remains of the back half of an adult rabbit, complete with entrails, lungs and liver.

Lyrics

Oh the hunter stalks his prey,
Fur, Flesh, Feather and Bone,
In the night and in the day,
Death rides on the wind.

Golden eye and silver claw,
Fur, Flesh, Feather and Bone,
Sharpest ear and silent paw,
Death rides on the wind

Oh the prey is weak and small,
Trembles at the hunters call,
Trickle out the last hearts blood,
Warm and rich the fatal flood,

Crunch the bone and tear the skin,
Sink hungry fangs deep in,
Keep a morsel for to share,
With the master unaware,

Agree, this song must be trad! ;-) I am so glad my cats attack ribbons not rabbits.

An excellent traditional song, that has clearly existed for more than a century. Love the harmony (and also the seriousness of the topic). Love the refrain lines. This is glorious!

Yes @gmcgath sea shanties, and running a ship in general, requires some degree of teamwork, which cat's aren't known for. Les Barker could have done a Cat Crew poem!

First cat shanty I've ever heard! But I have a really hard time imagining a crew of cats hauling together.

Super singing and wonderful harmony.

(Our cats are indoor only; their prey comes from a can.)

Really nice work reminds me of some Irish songs I’ve heard
