Liner Notes

I wrote this song about a character from the novel The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin.

Lyrics

Awoken by the wind most bold
Inside the tent a warmth too cold
The latent death shaken off by rest
This sanctuary where I a guest

Saved by the one I'd thought betrayed
Marvel at unseen strength displayed
Rests at my side, depleted low
Rescued reason, I cannot know

This man who has chosen a life unfurled
Most familiar to me in this icy world
Alien to all for my sake
Chosen the lot, his life to take

Friend and brother, dissolution undone
Stranger and lover, both and one
Neither woman nor man, hardly I know
Behold the one I see as shadow on snow

Beside the darkness, a light

I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with the book / character, but that notwithstanding, this is a stunning performance of some great lyrics. There's an impressive complexity to the images you use. I personally love really literate, dense lyrics, so this is right up my alley - seriously, "The latent death shaken off by rest" is poetry.

Performance is outstanding too. Beautiful piano and tremendous vocals to boot. It's got a very Broadway-friendly appeal to it - I think that's a credit to the emotive and crystal clear vocal delivery.
