Nuka-Cola

Liner Notes

Well, I didn't see that coming 😀 I think I have gone so far into the heavy I came out from the other end.

For my fellow theory nerds: I was reading the book The Complete Musician by Steven G. Laitz, which is an absolute unit of music theory knowledge, and there was a mention that in modal mixture, the b6 can be any degree of a mixture triad. I realized that I don't think I have ever used II-7b5 in a major key (although I kind of think of it as IV-6 with the 6th in the bass). So I came up with this progression I I7 I6 II-7b5 subV7 (it's worth noting that subV also has b6 of tonic). The b6 in major often reminds me of the #1950s culture so I leaned into that kitschy image in other aspects of this as well.

Velvety smooth music, almost entrancing! The theory is way over my head but I appreciate that there are people out there that can break down cool sounds into its named bits like that!

Really nice piece! So smooth and fluid. I appreciate the theory book recommendation as well; will have to check that out.

Do you know the movie Sleepwalker from Stephen King. This was the first thing came to my mind as I listen to this. Sounds great. Nice Slide Guitar(If it is one).

Kitschy but oh so good!!! Wow, what an harmonic journey...
I wish I knew what I'm doing regarding theory. Every time I try to analyze, it just messes up my mind... However that knowledge I don't think I'll ever have keeps fascinating me, and your amazing skills in that domain allow me to have a taste of its grandeur.
This piece is absolutely delightful. It sounds effortless (as always), but I'm wondering to what extent it was a torture to come up with it. 😄

When I listen to this, I picture a bar and a cold glass of Nuka-Cola, but there's also a lurking nostalgia and a bit of fear of nuclear fallout. Atmospheric!
