This is based on the Netflix series, "The 3 Body Problem." Some background information may be useful: The aliens who call themselves the San-Ti can't travel faster than light, but they can communicate and manipulate things on Earth with no time lag. They've set up a surveillance system that can observe anything that happens on our planet, and they want to make sure our technology doesn't advance enough to beat them when their fleet gets here in 400 years.
