Liner Notes

My friends and I have a weekly banjo barter lesson. When we meet, we talk about our rose, bud, thorn, and gardener of the day or week. The rose is something good that happened, the bud something you’re looking forward to, the thorn something bad, and the gardener someone who nourished you. We decided to write a song inspired by that idea. We each took turns writing a line and passing it around and then pieces it all together and recorded it. Our first collaboration. Shout out to Tessa and Hannah ❤️

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Arose hoping for a rose
The sun is out and the air is crisp
Never before have I felt the sting
That a rose’s thorn can bring

Verse 2:
Earthly troubles keeping me down
What a shame to feel stuck in the mud
But I try not to let it bring me down
Tomorrow will spring a new bud

Chorus:
Find me a gardener to tend my soul
Someone to be my bud
To build me a greenhouse when the winter winds blow
It takes a steady hand to grow rose

Verse 3:
Finally starting to bloom
When you’re out of the weeds there’s plenty of room
Opening up to so many things
That a gardens love can bring

Chorus:
Find me a gardener to tend my soul
Someone to be my bud
To build me a greenhouse when the winter winds blow
It takes a patient hand to grow rose

Chorus:
Find me a gardener to tend my soul
Someone to be my bud
To build me a greenhouse when the winter winds blow
It takes a rugged heart to grow rose

Love the use of the rose/flower metaphor. Very clever and enjoyable. Love your peppy and fun performance.
