10. Little Oblivion (A Quiet Death)
Liner Notes
#indie #dark
Here's a short and sweet bummer of a track inspired by that vague sense of hopelessness we all know and love.
Lyrics
Stars and stripes
Will burn my eyes.
Masquerades and pantomimes
Until the death of time.
I'm way too young
For the Good Old Days,
But way too old
For the Young Man's Game.
I'm running out of breath
And reasons
To stay.
Love is blind,
And talk is cheap,
And truth is
Somewhere in between,
When the sky is falling over me,
So play me out with a
Final verse.
I'm well behaved and
Well rehearsed.
A Quiet Death is
What I've earned.
We'll fade into the night,
Where all we really need
Is a Little Oblivion
And all we ever do
Is struggle until the end
Finds us.
We'll fade into the night
Into a Little Oblivion.
A Little Oblivion.

@alanonymous
Sad and dark songs like this one provide me a lot of comfort in uncertain and difficult times. The Radiohead-like qualities of this one (expansive vocals, beautiful orchestration, big reverb) are strangely centering and soothing

This is so so good. "A quiet death is what I've earned" hits so hard. The vocal layering here is insane in the best way, you do it like none other. And the harmonies!!!! This is hopeless, but its finding hope in that very lack of it. There's something comforting about the little oblivion, the great dark, the end. You've captured the feelings so well here.

Opening lyrics,
"Stars and stripes
Will burn my eyes.
Masquerades and pantomimes"
immediately grabbed me and you didn't let me down.
The multiple pained voices, the gorgeous electric piano tone, and that wonderful outro.... magical.

So lyrical, love the asymmetry of the verses. Love the piano/synth tone. It's all so heavy and lovely, dreamy. I'd be happy for it to be extended, to have drums kick in at some point, drive the energy up for a bit.

@stellaveneer you're too kind! I will never be annoyed being compared to Radiohead, lol. I don't hear it, but I LOVE that you do! And yes, it's nice hearing someone else with the same thoughts. Makes the world feel a tiny...tiny...bit smaller.

Yep, that's where we're at. Well captured, and great arrangement

Really does capture that vibe with the lyrics and instrumentation. I think the second verse really captured why people might feel that way. I know I often feel hopeless after having done something I enjoyed and then have to do things I don't enjoy before I can get back to the start of that cycle, sunshine comes after rain and after rain comes sunshine.

Wow do I hear these lyrics. I think it's good to have songs like this. It makes me feel like I'm not alone when I get in those black moods.
I really like the keyb melody here, it reminds me a lot of Kid A Radiohead. Everything In It's Right Place? Somewhere around there. I know it can be annoying to have your work compared to existing songs, but I mean it as a high compliment! There's a really lovely chord change in the middle, it's just the perfect amount of bittersweetness in the arrangement.
