Part Of Your Time
Liner Notes
This one was already on my old cocktail napkin list to finish up for #FAWM, but then came the #PublicDomainChallenge that went and put me over the line with the help of JS Bach (by way of Margo Guryan).
Speaking of Old Cocktail Napkins, here's reason number one to record something when it's fresh: I sat down to orchestrate this one, got all the parts laid in, figured I'd jot down the old lyrics for reference before I laid down the vox ... before realizing that, besides the hook, I couldn't remember a single lyric I'd written for it. Not the good ones, anyway - the ones I spitballed and rejected for being rotten are stuck like glue upstairs.
So, with a fresh new POV and dripping-wet lyrics, here, enjoy this one, the best one till the next one.

Lyrics
Listen
I've enjoyed looking at you for a while
With that hair and that face and that smile
Where did you come from? Where have you gone?
Am I looking at everything wrong?
You gave me scars that I choose not to show
But I know they're mine
Slowly it dawns that I gave up my heart
For a part of your time
Shorter than short, and it's sweeter than sweet
As the Christmas lights shine up the street
"Crush" doesn't cover when it comes on this fast
But that don't mean that it's built to last
You gave me scars that I choose not to show
But I know they're mine
Slowly it dawns that I gave up my heart
For a part of your time
And it wasn't that much, just a laugh and some beers
And it's good that you're there, and it's fine that I'm here
Or so I'll tell myself until you reappear
You gave me scars that I choose not to show
But I know they're mine
Slowly it dawns that I gave up my heart
For a part of your time
(i could fall desperately, recklessly, helplessly
i'd risk calamity if it put you next to me
you're not responsible if i think it's unstoppable
if i make my problems yours, how is it solving yours?)
