Kansas Anymore

Liner Notes

Just sat around with an acoustic guitar figuring out a simple chord pattern, recorded it, then wrote the lyrics off the top of my head in a free-form way as I listened to the playback, then recorded the vocal in one take.

Lyrics

When I saw those waves crash
On the opposite shore
I knew right then
I wasn’t in Kansas anymore

Sailboats glide across this silver bay

This boat is launched

And it’s on its way
Dappled sunlight
Casts its shadows on the sand

You leave a lot

When you leave your land

The nomads are so nomadic

They come and go

But I’m not so automatic
I make my decisions slow

Sailboats glide across this silver bay

This boat is launched

And it’s on its way
Dappled sunlight
Casts its shadows on the sand

You leave a lot

When you leave your land

I had a growing list
Of all my reasons to go

But my heart still aches
Cos I didn’t really want to go

Sailboats glide across this silver bay

This boat is launched

And it’s on its way
Dappled sunlight
Casts its shadows on the sand

You leave a lot

When you leave your land

This is an interesting introspection on leaving your homeland behind. The sorrow and doubt come through beautifully. I know a few of my friends and relatives in MN have considered heading to Canada after November. But ultimately stayed. Anyway beautiful guitar and vocal melody. Don’t go Joe…

Whoa. In these times, the last couplet of the refrain hits with a wallop. This is what folk music is for.

Nice laidback style, very relaxing tune and very enjoyable listening. 😎
