This is my new account (was @kenmattsson, but wanted to shake that up) First FAWM was 2020, and have participated in 3 50/90's. This community of crazy creatives is the best!

First instrument was the fife in the Minutemen reenactment groups of the 1970's. Moved to clarinet in elementary school, then to tinwhistles, flutes, and recorders. Studied voice in college and mostly known as the "big voice" tenor. I'm the one who sings loudly so others have more courage to sing, as they can't be heard over me. Started with the hammered dulcimer in 1999 because I heard it once and got enchanted. Tried the guitar and couldn't do the coordination needed. Picked up a lot of orphaned folk instruments (autoharp, concertina, etc.) that I play if I absolutely need to, but not very well.

Started with the ukulele seriously in 2018 as I finally wanted to accompany myself on an instrument, and figured that I could maybe manage four strings. It's taken a while, but I have gotten to the passibly okay stage, and working on getting better. Have six ukuleles now (concert Fluke, low G Ohana Tenor (my main instrument), high G Kala tenor, antique soprano banjolele (need to sell that one!), custom made Beckwith Baritone, and my newest, an 8 String Kala Baritone). Still looking for a UBass and an electric, but that will do for now (who am I kidding; I'm itching to get my next).

I was scared stiff to write songs when I started. With a lot of support from this community, I've released two EPs of my music (kenmattsson.bandcamp.com) and am planning on releasing a full length album this year, entitled "The Solitary Years", mostly based on my pandemic journey into songwriting.

Plans for 2023 FAWM:
* Have fun
* Do somethings I never thought I would do before

Secondary Plans for 2023 FAWM:
* Write songs aligned with the Hero's Journey

Always down for new connections and stretching myself even further.

@beacon
@klyma Not scheduled yet as to many people couldn't make that date. I'll let people know if something comes about
[avatar]
@klyma
Any update on the possible MA fawmers gathering? Was that going to maybe happen this Saturday, March 18?
[avatar]
Do you mean the sticker? I have a bad habit of sticking stickers to things... my 8 string has a sticker of Ivor the Engine (kind of similar to the photo in my avatar). I was a bit worried it'd change the sound when I first did it, but I can't tell the difference myself...
[avatar]
Voice? Collabs? 5090? Ken, you're on!
[avatar]
@beacon
@tjeff Thanks for filling out the form and letting me know your decision.
[avatar]
Glad to hear Sally is still alive! I thought for some reason the story was much older.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for listening and commenting on both "Stop Draggin' My Heartbreak Around" and "Shrinkwrap!" Those are two of my favorites that I wrote this year, so I am glad you liked them.
[avatar]
@beacon
@jtsteam I just saw it and commented. Thanks for your comment!

BTW, it looks like you have something attached to your 8 string below the bridge. What's that?
[avatar]
@beacon
@charliecheney Thanks for letting me know. I understand that issues come up with the business of music. Just bummed because it was a very good song.
[avatar]
I must withdraw my approval, yes.
[avatar]
Excellent! Once you've posted it I'll update mine with a link to it. I'll keep it unlisted until then.
[avatar]
I couldn't not do this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TsUyodIjr8

I will leave it unlisted, unless you want me to do otherwise :). I did tweak the lyrics slightly just to translate a couple of things into British English. I hope you don't mind!
[avatar]
Hey, thanks. I've chosen to not be on the release instead. Thanks for your understanding.
[avatar]
Great, let's do it!
[avatar]
I just tried emailing you again because I've searched through all my folders and can't find anything. Maybe we should just make the plan here? Or if you do FB, you can send me a message.
[avatar]
Hmm, I don't see an email yet. Did you get the one I sent you on Monday?
[avatar]
So glad you enjoyed Somewhere In The World, It's Yesterday. I was more than thrilled when Marieke agreed to collab with me on this. I thought she perfectly captured what I had in mind, which is a lyricist's dream. Now, I want to explore your site!
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks for the kind comments on Lake Willoughby :)
[avatar]
@miga
Thanks so much for posting 'Run, Mildred, Run!" to your MALM forum! Glad you enjoyed it!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on "In Your Heart" -- I appreciate them!
[avatar]
Thank you for leaving a comment on my lyrics for Dark Angel. I appreciate it! I will be working on music and refining lyrics on this and one other. Got up to 5 in this year, which was my first. Will listen to some of yours.
[avatar]
Hi, I signed the release for Perfect Evening, just making sure it went through.
[avatar]
Ken, thank you so much for the Bandcamp support!! You’re a wonderful man :)
[avatar]
@aeye
Hahah thanks Ken! I have a lot of listening to catch up on myself this fawm. Just have not had as much time as I’d like. (Your songs included.) hopefully I can listen more this month :)
[avatar]
@pippa
Thanks for the comment on "Wichita Blue Springs." It's funny you should say Scandinavian, as the very first original tune I ever captured turned out, 33 years later, to have been the A part of a Norwegian tune.
[avatar]
Thanks Ken :-) If I get to that point I may take you up on that. For now, I just want to start finishing things and releasing a few things. I have a tendency to overthink things and spend all my time in planning stages, so I think it's important for me to just do it and put some things out there.

Looks like you had a really productive month! I'm planning on doing most of my listening now in March, looking forward to hearing more of yours.
[avatar]
OHHHHHH……. 😊😊😊😊☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️I’m so so glad! Phew!
[avatar]
Awww…. Thanks! And now I am crushed that you have already decided not to collab with me in 50/90?!! Dang! Is it my breath? 😁
[avatar]
Setting up 3 podcasts doing 5 interviews going to 1350 listens plus real life was more taxing than the song bit honestly
[avatar]
I'm thinking a bit like you. I might try and use 50/90 to just do collabs with loads of different people with just enough for an album plus a few skirmishes of my own. So say 14 mine 12 skirmishes and 24 collabs as a base line! That would be good. And I'm really going to try and ease up
this year I'm fawm exhausted.
[avatar]
haha! Yes! I grew up in a very Norwegian/american family, my sister called me 'nuerdetjulien.' And we always danced around the christmas tree singing 'Nu er det jul igen'
[avatar]
@beacon
So I'm making plans for 2023 50/90, and I'm thinking about whom I've already spoken with about collabs: @elesimo @davidtaro @jlampson @mikedebenham @cindyrella @zecoop @nancyrost @timfatchen and it's probably not possible not to do collabs with @coolparadiso and @kahlo2013 . I'm just putting this here so when I archive the my profile I'll have this for memory!
[avatar]
Thanks for the hammered dulcimer info! That is a lot of strings - presumably something you want to keep in stable temperatures and not drop to avoid having to re-tune if you can avoid it. That joke gave me a good laugh!
[avatar]
Hey, thanks so much for your continued listening and support. Really appreciate your kind words and thanks for liking my music. Congrats to you too, 20 songs, that's incredible! I am creatively drained. Feet up time, I think!
[avatar]
@smiley
I would like to be in on your post-FAWM skirmishes and activities. I am going to follow you to stay in touch. Thank you for your efforts to get our music out to the world and being a part of this community.
[avatar]
Thanks, Ken - I'm doing okay. February was a real month of extremes for me, both good and bad. March will be about catching my breath and seeing what happens next, I think.
[avatar]
Yes, please sign me up for a 50/90 collab!
[avatar]
Oh, the grit is perceptible, worry not - I think the sweetness also comes from your intuitive and well-balanced harmonies. :-)
[avatar]
I think I filled out my form correctly
[avatar]
Happy to bump into a fellow XC skier! Thanks for your comments on "the ol tea hut". Looking forward to hearing what you've been up to this year!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your comments on "Looking for a Place."
[avatar]
Thanks so much, Ken, for your support and empathy throughout the month. And thanks for your comment on "The Last Song Of The Month".

My goodness, you've been ambitious, 50% more songs.
[avatar]
I got my Elderberry gummies and Vitamin C armed and ready my friend!! Great work this FAWM.
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and lovely comments. I’ll be sure to check out more of your songs, have already enjoyed listening to a few of them.
[avatar]
Thanks, Ken, and congratulations to you too. I'd love to collaborate some time. I didn't get a lot of listening done during February, but I'm looking forward to catching up with what the folk bard of the Northern Hemisphere has been up to!
[avatar]
Oh also, I haven't forgotten that I was going to try recording "I forgot to respond to your email". I was just waiting for March. I'll let you know when I've done it!
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind comment! I'm sure I've been learning a lot from the talented folks here. And if the background level of nerdiness ever decreases then that will be a problem :).
[avatar]
@gm7
Thx Ken....I uploaded a better mix..have another listen. The bass was too low in the first as were the guitars...odd.
[avatar]
I'd absolutely love to! This FAWM was kind of crazy and I purposefully took it easier. I didn't get to some of the collaborations I had hoped to, but let's plan on one in the future! I appreciate your positivity and fun here on FAWM too! :)
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on Nothing At All - you can totally take credit for the fingerpicking, I only did that because I heard you do it on the 8 string and thought it sounded good :). I nearly didn't post that one because I thought it was too silly...
[avatar]
@gm7
Check your email or maybe you already have. Back to Renews' mix is waiting for your ears.
[avatar]
It’s sounding amazing! Not far off now…. Been a hectic day so only got to it this last hour or so…
[avatar]
@beacon thanks for the kind comments on my newest song!!
[avatar]
@faithsenie and I are away on the road until late March. We'd love to get together with other New England FAWMers, but can't do so until April. Hope y'all have a good gathering if you do it in March.
[avatar]
I'm available on March 18 for a FAWMer gathering.
[avatar]
I do love to write an interesting melody!

But maybe next time I'll get a chance to do some harmonizing (if I straighten out my recording situation!). That's even better, because I'll get to feel like we're singing together when I do my part.
[avatar]
Just letting you know that I won’t now get time to finish the harmony challenge. An international artist has asked me to join him on some dates early March and I have to turn my attention to his material. I’m going to pull the song together quickly and post what we have but I’m not comfortable with releasing it in any way outside of FAWM.
[avatar]
Love this description Ken!! “Rip out my heart and stomp on it" type of song :) thanks so much from @mctown & @gm7
[avatar]
On my way!
[avatar]
@beacon
@emkaydeebee Great. I just finished a skirmish, so I'll take a look at it now!
[avatar]
Hi! Have just uploaded harp part, and a harp plus verse 1 sung part 🙌
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind words! I had a blast doing the Harmony challenge, definitely keep me in mind for the future. FAWM is the best place to try new things, so don't be afraid to get weird, especially in the waning days. Do you use a DAW and/or have access to loops? That's the easiest way to start breaking out of the wheelhouse. I'd be happy to chat about that any time, just let me know. And thank you again :)
[avatar]
Congrats on 14 songs!!
[avatar]
Yay for the win
[avatar]
@beacon
@emkaydeebee I wanted to check with you to see how you're doing. I just posted my 14th song (yay I won!) and I've got our collab and another one I'm putting some effort into now. I've got something on the Google Doc, but will work on that more and see if I can get something more substantial to you by the end of the evening so that you can work on it tomorrow. I've got time tomorrow I'm going to be working on songs also. Powering to the finish!
[avatar]
Hey! I’m hoping to have some time available tomorrow afternoon, and want to dedicate it to Too Many Strings… if you’ve done something melody wise with the chorus could you share it please? Or if not, I’ll go at the verse melody no problem, just don’t think they should both be done in isolation…
[avatar]
Ha, thanks Ken! Yeah definitely going to need a lie down now… 😅
[avatar]
Thanks Ken. I hope you liked the "Laurie" song, itself, too. My wife loved it, bringing her a much-needed smile.
[avatar]
@gm7
Ok sounds good. Thx
[avatar]
I had to go look up what 50/90 is but that sounds fantastic! I'll definitely be around for that and next February as well.
[avatar]
Yes I'd already considered that if I don't get anything soon. I'm not too worried. I'm not that happy with what I wrote anyhow.
[avatar]
Thanks for you comments on my collaboration! And catching my typos!
[avatar]
Hi Ken, thanks so much for your comments, and for listening to, "The Boatman and the Goddess", much appreciated. I listened to a couple of yours, and enjoyed them, esp. "Something More Authentic". Great work!
[avatar]
Hi Ken!! I had a busy week at work and school playing catch up, but I do plan on sending you vocal stems tonight for our harmony challenge! Thanks for your patience. I hope you have a nice weekend!!
[avatar]
@gm7
I agree..try Renews yourself in the spirit of FAWM...I LOVE FOR YOU TO DO IT.
[avatar]
@gm7
THX ken...how is the arm???
[avatar]
Ah fab! I’ve been a bit swamped with school holidays and focusing on the kids this week, sorry!
[avatar]
thx Ken - late night it seems?
[avatar]
Won't be at Strumerville but thats a fun fun group - what is 50/90?
[avatar]
Hi Ken - question for a newbie - what happens to the site on March 1? I have all my songs on SoundCloud but there are plenty of songs and songwriters that I might want to follow.
[avatar]
Hey thanks for taking the time to listen to my song. Means alot to me.
[avatar]
Ah thank you! Have put something new in the shared doc… not tried singing it yet so may be subject to change depending on how it scans. Hoping it is okay and enough to move forward with but happy for you to suggest amendments…
[avatar]
Hope you had a good time! I’m on a total re-write. Am definitely feeling the pressure on this one for some reason, I want it to be good for you!
[avatar]
beautifully time run to your 14
[avatar]
Thanks! I've started working on the song, but I probably won't be finished until Monday since I'm out of town this weekend.
[avatar]
Yes, I am the lead singer of Glorious Disaster. :) Thanks for listening!
[avatar]
That’s a relief to be honest! However, I’m not sure if I’m fully catching your drift…

Modern language but more along lines of “I like the cut of your leg” rather than “phwoar, you’re hot?” Is that what you mean by old sensibility?…
[avatar]
Hey! There are some verse 1 lyrics in our shared doc for your perusal! Also, as a fellow multi-string player I can offer some advice on seamless stitching for the hammered dulcimer if helpful?
[avatar]
Thanks so much, Ken! Yes, since this one, "I Got A Cat Named Bert", was inspired by this week's Online Ukulele Show & Tell Show theme, I thought I'd have a bit of fun with Danno. And the theme, 'cats', is actually a theme we did about five months ago.
[avatar]
Hey Ken!! I messaged everyone in the Forum as well. I have another doctor's appt after work today, but my throat is still :( I emailed you Carley's part. I don't want to hold anyone back.
[avatar]
Hi ken, have seen and replied to your email!
[avatar]
Hi Ken - thanks so much for your kind comments about my song ‘Six Months Ago Today’. Really appreciate it! :-)
[avatar]
That would be fab! How would you like to go about it? (Everyone has different preferences, and I’m happy to work however best fits)
[avatar]
No need to apologize, my friend - I'm here for you all year!
[avatar]
sounds good! starting a chat on instagram :)
[avatar]
Nice to play my mandolin again. I had my new guitalele on holidays, learning to play “guitar” chords. I think they are more difficult than mandolin and banjo. Glad you enjoyed the song. Thanks for the nice comments.
[avatar]
Glad you liked my "Hear of the Matter"...
[avatar]
@gm7
Ken I will do that ..immediately. and the latest mix. In coming! Thx
[avatar]
Received @carlybaer! Will work on it tonight 🙏🎶
[avatar]
Hi! I recorded my part and sent it to @katestantonsings yesterday. I’ll have to figure out what the deal is with my email address, I thought I always had it up. Anyway it’s just Carley at carleybaer dot com :)
[avatar]
Hello Ken! So nice to 'see' you again! Count me in for Stephen's album / "Can You". Where should we start?
[avatar]
@mikeb
Thanks for the listen, comment and unZonging 'A Place to Play/A Place to Rock'!
[avatar]
I definitely think I'll stick around for the rest of the month, though I'll be less active in a week and a half when 100 Days of Ukulele is in full swing. I am a bit self conscious (and concerned about my time management) when I see the counter for how much I comment, but I have this reciprocal responsibility "rule" for myself where I want to thank folks...and then comment on one of THEIR songs...it adds up. ;)
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind words on "Snapping at Silverfish" -- I relistened to all 14 of my songs yesterday and was glad to find that I still liked them. ;)
[avatar]
:)
[avatar]
@gm7
OK Thanks
[avatar]
@wistah
Thanks for listening, and for the kind words :)
[avatar]
Not sure I found the right iteration of you on Facebook?
[avatar]
@gm7
Ken is Lynn back yet??
[avatar]
That is brilliant! I love how you brought it to life! Thank you, Ken!!!!’
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind comment on Letter to the Fallen…
[avatar]
Ken, thanks for your both of your posts on each of the two songs, Blame It On My Uke, and Necco Candy Hearts.

I have a new one I just dropped, a more serious one called Time Is Passing On. Please check it out when you have a chance.
[avatar]
I'm handing off to you for the Digital 4-track challenge. Here's my stem and a mix:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ww1sga51x4k3d69/AAB3xmavAeGh6beDZlQXShcVa?dl=0

Included in that directory is a text file with @reinderd's original notes about the first track. As he said about his track, please also feel free to chop mine up as you see fit.
[avatar]
Of course!
[avatar]
I would love that if you wanted to!
[avatar]
And I responded! Thanks for the good advice.
[avatar]
@wistah
Thank you so much for listening 🙏
[avatar]
Thank you, thank you and thank you for your kind words and for getting an album from Bandcamp too. I really appreciate it and hope you enjoy. 😃🎶
[avatar]
@klyma
Great to see you in Wayland! I look forward to checking out some of these songs. Happy FAWM 2023!
[avatar]
Thank you very much for your comment on "Wofür mir die Worte fehlen", sir... it would be a honour to me if you gave it a try...
[avatar]
Oh, you don't want me to do a radio edit for you! I'm still a newbie at mixing, which is why I jumped at the potential for more practice. I appreciate the offer though, and hope you can find someone more skilled to do the job well.
[avatar]
I'm afraid so. No way to avoid it.
[avatar]
Ken, thank you for all your kind comments on my songs, and for your recommendations to the recommendation thread. I'm glad that "The Fee" spoke to you, and I appreciate the listen, I know we've both suffered losses this year. God bless and comfort you.
[avatar]
thanks Ken :)
[avatar]
Email sent with a time sensitive question.
[avatar]
Ken, please check SLACK. I sent you a PM there.
[avatar]
Thanks for adding me a harmony challenge: Song #1
I've never done this before, so not sure how to proceed. Can you help me get connected to my group? Thanks.
[avatar]
Hi Ken, I don't see an email from you about Song 8, did you send to the right address? ezragale@gmail.com let me know
[avatar]
Hey Ken! I'm still sick with no singing voice. I am happy to switch spots if that works for all involved!
[avatar]
@kkd
Hi again. Letting you know I just replaced the original recording with an mp3. Hopefully that will take care of the problem with the link, Thanks!
[avatar]
@kkd
Hi! Thanks for letting me know you are having trouble with the link. I had the same problem when I tried it from my computer, but it played when I accessed it from my phone. Not sure what is going on with it as I know others have been able to hear it. I'll see if I can figure out what is going on!.
[avatar]
@reklov
Thanks for commenting to "Honigmond", beacon!
I have added the German lyrics - just for you! ;-)
https://write.fawm.org/songs/15429
[avatar]
Hey there, Song 8 sounds great, my email is ezragale@gmail.com
Looking forward!
[avatar]
@doug52
Hello, beacon. Thank you for the read. Once on the site at the top, you will see the play icon. Click that.
[avatar]
@kkd
Thanks for the welcome to the group. Yes, liz561 has been spreading the love of FAWM and I'm glad she did. I will definitely check out the Boston use link you sent.
[avatar]
@ltunes
Hi There - thanks so much for your comment on "Messenger" - I appreciate it. And... I'm enjoying listening to all your submissions. "Pick Up Your Ukulele" - says it all right in the title.
[avatar]
Hi Ken, I have sent the files for Perfect Evening. I'm looking forward to hearing it finished.
[avatar]
You are another fermenter. Yet another reason to feel connected to you. 😀
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your comment on my song "This is how I start over." :)
[avatar]
Yes, Ken. I listened to @ianuarius music set to your lyrics. I thought you might have been wondering what different folks might do with them. It'd be interesting, no?
[avatar]
Just sent you an email! Someone dropped out of my group for the harmony challenge, so a slot has opened up for anyone interested.
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your kind words on Gaze into the Fire
[avatar]
Hi Ken! Thanks for your favourable comments on "Average Joe". It was fun to create the music to go with @andrea's lyric.
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks, Ken, for your lovely comments on Average Joe. It is good to be happy with what we have :)
[avatar]
Thanks for listening and commenting on Catalog Model and Peckerhead! I appreciate the kind words!
[avatar]
Ah, cheers Ken! I feel like I should clarify, it was only the record in the hour - song was written over the last few evenings. Don’t want to take extra credit where it’s not due 😆
[avatar]
thanks for the tag on Beryllium! I will be watching for more PT songs on @misterdemp 's wall now
[avatar]
Hey, thanks so much for listening. It's been a slow start for me this year so I don't even know HOW you've got 7 songs up already. I feel so inadequate *heavy sobbing* keep it up and hope you have a great one!
[avatar]
Thank you for your comment on Let Go, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
[avatar]
I have forwarded you the full e-mail chains for song 8. Lyrics, isolated vocal tracks, and a combined track should all be in there amongst the confusion. Maybe you can come up with a better way to get them to the next person so we don't have to go through all this nonsense again.
[avatar]
@b3nut
Thanks for the listen and comment on It's Got To Get Better!
[avatar]
Right place, right time, my friend! I happened to see your song right as you posted it and I'm glad I did :)
[avatar]
Hi Ken -got my second song in "Listen" - A ukulele piece - how do I leave links on others pages or the Boston FAWMers or Uke sites? Is there a guide somewhere for navigation? Enjoying your songs so far...
[avatar]
Yeah, the chord progression (especially if it's not one of the classic I-IV-V or I-ii-IV-V etc) is going to determine some of the melodic movement; it is one of the factors that make Fake It what it is. I genuinely love hearing the great diversity that comes from the similarity when I set the challenge. Everyone is so talented!
[avatar]
And thank you again for the listen and comment on Let Go :)
[avatar]
@jeff9
Appreciate the listen and kind words for "Pack Up and Leave". Doug's lyrics write their own music sometimes.
[avatar]
Oh for sure. I don't collab much so I thought maybe you want to just add it to the lyrics. 😁 But, I'll post my own. Thanks for the collab!
[avatar]
By the way, thanks for the purchase :). That's a plural number of sales now, yay!
[avatar]
I'm kinda streaming randomly whenever I feel like recording something. I think if you follow me on Twitch you can get a notification that I'm on.
[avatar]
Glad you liked my Brain Scan
[avatar]
@kiffa
I did! It was fun and it was nice to see fellow FAWMer @markg there. I didn't perform, but hopefully at the next one in a couple of weeks, my guitarist friend will either be with me, or I'll have the cable I need to hook my phone up to the speakers and sing to a backing track. I'll turn that open mic into a karaoke night if it's the last thing I do (just kidding, @mikeb)!
[avatar]
Thanks! I'll definitely give it a go when I get a chance.
[avatar]
Thank you for your comment on "Warrior". I made a decision to be much more open/vulnerable in my lyrics and in my emotional expression (and in my life) around a year and a half ago and it's certainly changed a lot for me. Practicing that has definitely led to being able to perform in a way that lets me tap into my emotions much more readily and I'm very happy with that progress and that it helps me connect with others.
[avatar]
A short but effective bridge for sure on no warning calls. Thanks for the positive feedback
[avatar]
@mikeb
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'It Takes Two'. Hmmm... will someone get caught playing rock and roll.... only the ongoing rock opera will tell!
[avatar]
Thank you for such kind words about both of the songs I've posted so far. I'm definitely interested in the harmony challenge, but am unsure if I have the software/recording to make it happen. I do plan to investigate my garage band situation, but for now am just using the voice memo app on my phone to record myself playing and singing live. Let me know what might be workable. Thanks!
[avatar]
Thank you for taking the time and for your kind words on “Shut Out, Shut Down.” I have listened to your songs so far. Really like them quite a bit. Happy FAWM! Looking forward to what you have in store for February 2023!
[avatar]
Ken, Thank you so much for your generous praise for The Movie In My Mind! I'm so glad you liked it, and yes, the music is all David's mastery. I feel very lucky that both he and Kate wanted to work on this.
[avatar]
@reklov
Thanks for your friendly words to my starter song! :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comment on Aint Got the Blues Blues! Much Appreciated
[avatar]
haha, our musical history is quite similar. Grew up playing in band and went to allstate on voice and oboe. Yep, I'm that big voiced alto and contralto some say. I'm the lady who can sing the tenor parts but gets snubbed because I'm a lady - but the tenors are always asked to "help out" the altos on those "low" notes that aren't too low for me. LOL

I'm a retired choir director, turned solo performer, and I started playing ukulele to accompany myself, too! I want to release some music and have started that journey. I have 6 ukes: concert that I started on, Ohana BK35 baritone, 2 enya nova u pro tenors (one with electronics and one without to take to the beach), Risa LP solid body electric (check it out!!! great little instrument) and my go to Pono steel string baritone - sounds like a guitar - it's my favorite. Ukes are so fun!!! I'm excited to follow your musical journey!!!
[avatar]
Ken is awesome!!!
[avatar]
@scubed
Thanks so much for the lovely comments on “Sky Spirit” and “I Just Gotta Sing”!
[avatar]
Ken, thank you for dropping by and giving "So Many Cars, Such Little Drive" a listen! Me and my viola have a good time together. Can't wait to take a deep dive into your uke/dulcimer/overall sonic universe a little later!
[avatar]
And I hope to have the melody together tomorrow morning. Charlie's lyrics are great.
[avatar]
I sent them to @metalfoot yesterday actually.
[avatar]
Hail fellow, well met! Love your profile bit about being scared to write songs and now having 2 EPs out, that gives me hope! (and showcases the loveliness of the FAWM community!)
[avatar]
Thanks for moving your comment! I'm brand new to FAWM and your words mean the world to me.
[avatar]
Beacon, it meant so much to me that you posted the stuff below about our song!
Could I ask you to repost your comments to https://write.fawm.org/forums/748 (which is the older, longer, Recommendation Thread)? Thanks!

[Beacon: A November to Forget by @cosmicdogstudios and @ericalbert was a flurry of sound from the moment I pressed play.

Thanks so much for your kind words about my song, ‘Abandoned’, Ken. The ‘medieval’ comment was right on the money. And I’m sure I’ll be using my new Ohana baritone uke on something soon. :-)

@owl
Welcome back (with a new name even!) and happy FAWM!
[avatar]
Not often I get called sultry - I will absolutely take that as it was definitely the kind of vibe I was hoping for! Thank you! Re collab idea, was it you who did some musical theatre type songs a few years back?...
[avatar]
I lost you again, just had to re follow you!
[avatar]
Thanks for the info and encouragement for the harmony singers challenge. Sounds fun but I'll pass this year. Have fun!

@gm7
Does you mic need phantom power?? If it is a SM57B it shouldn't. Often the drivers will not recognize the 2i2 sometimes you will have to load the native drive to get to "see" the 2i2.
If you hear just a little noise it may be your ha your gain is too low
[avatar]
Thanks!
[avatar]
Hey Ken, Dave Wermers is interested in doing my Listen for the Bells song too. Would that be okay, or should I say no? Thanks
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind words!
Tomorrow night my weekend starts and I will definitely play ukulele too. Not sure if I can fit in a FAWM, but I will certainly try... Actually plan to do a 10 minute livestream on Instagram to promote my recent single 😅
[avatar]
Thank you so much Ken!! I love your comment!
[avatar]
See if you think this might work for the challenge.

Thanks for listening! I'm looking forward to hearing your work this year. And yes, you need another ukulele. They're happier in packs.
[avatar]
@gm7
Wobbie is everywhere...she has that unique voice and delivery..it works everywhere even in space
[avatar]
@fuzzy
Hey!!
I hope you have an awesome FAWM!!
[avatar]
Thank you for being my first comment of 2023! I’d love to collaborate with you this year if you’d like to? I love your vocals…
[avatar]
Aww. Thank you. 😊
No fipple. This is an actual edge-blown flute and doesn't have one. 😉
[avatar]
Good to see you back, Ken. Have a wonderful FAWM.
[avatar]
Hi Ken! Dulcimers unite, and ukuleles, too! I didn’t realize Steve Beckwith built baritone ukes. Nice! I’ve been contemplating a baritone. I have two tenors, a Kala and an Outdoor Ukulele Co. I also play mandolin and acoustic bass guitar. I stick with 4 strings! (Well, ok, 4 pairs on the mando…) Hammered dulcimer sounds cool, though!
[avatar]
Glad to be back! Looking forward to hearing all of your plethora of Ukuleles again this year.
[avatar]
I'm in Norton, MA. Just moved here from Sharon back in September.

@cts
Ahhh…shakin’ things up already, eh? Happy FAWMing, my friend. Looking forward to that voice and all the creativity that flows from it!
[avatar]
Yes! I want to again!
[avatar]
@crisp1
Happy FAWMing, Ken!

@kiffa
Thanks for doing the reception, Ken! It was nice to see some familiar faces and meet a few new ones.
[avatar]
Thanks for the word about my Bandcamp link. Hope you have a great month. All the best.

[avatar]

[avatar]
thks for the FAWMguidance Ken! Yes Im a newbie here!
[avatar]
@kristi
Hi Ken! Looking forward to hearing your songs. Btw, I just posted on that Harmony thread though am not sure when it would start, etc...
[avatar]
Alright alright alright. Happy new FAWM!
[avatar]
Hi, Ken! Greetings from Newton, MA. Great to learn there are FAWM folks in the area. I'm interested to hear what you do with the Hero's Journey -- great theme.
[avatar]
Hi Ken! Good to see you again, too. 😄 Yes, doing something in your style is still on my list. I experimented with some lyre, harp, and string things over Christmas, but it didn't sound bardy enough for me. But I'm still convinced I will get there.

Thanks for the recording of your vocalists' meeting in FAWMSTOCK, by the way. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it - too many conflicts with other appointments in the pre-Christmas time. The recording gave me the feeling of being a bit part of it anyway. 👍
[avatar]
Thanks, Ken. Yeah, I definitely want to release that one. “Benediction” carries a bit more weight for me now as well, because I played it at my dad’s funeral. I’m honored that you’d like to play it though. I think I’d be fine with that if you didn’t record it, at least until I get a version released myself. A mention would also be nice. :-) Check back with me for the words and chords, I think we can make that happen.

@kcc
Hey Ken,
Looking forward to your seeing/reading/hearing some songs! I fell of the rails last year! Onward!! KC
[avatar]
Hey Ken, thanks for the welcome! Good to have a neighbor here, and it sounds like many more! Appreciate your efforts to organize the Boston peeps, would love to join the party!
[avatar]
It's great to see a profile saying "I was scared stiff" because it is scary. And getting past that scare factor is the great thing here. I was the same. Welcome back Ken!
[avatar]
Thank you - glad we are both back! Thanks for letting me know the site is open. :)
[avatar]
Hi again, sorry for the delay...I don't want to commit just yet, but may follow up with you later if time permits and you still need someone. Looks like fun!

Thought I'd already followed you--that has been rectified. :-)
[avatar]
Helllllooooooo!
[avatar]
Looking forward to hearing your music and enticing you with some lyrics!
[avatar]
Hi! Yes I do!
[avatar]
Ken, I'm sorry I didn't follow you last year! (Or maybe I did - I know a few folks have magical shrinking Watchlists sometimes...) Happy FAWM, and best wishes on your Hero's Journey. 😀
[avatar]
Hey Ken!!
[avatar]
Sure thing!
[avatar]
Hey, nice to see you back too. Hope you have a great FAWM! 😀
[avatar]
Really had to twist my arm there 😆 I definitely also dropped the ball on that challenge during 5090 so I’m glad I wasn’t the only one

Hello there. Yeah, I'm kinda hooked on FAWM, they can't get rid of me lol
[avatar]
FAWMly greetings from Riggs and me!
[avatar]
Every time I write 'Hi Ken!' my inner voice narrates it as Lena from Aqua. This isn't your fault.

Thank you for touching base - let's see what this year brings. Good luck!
[avatar]
Hi! Great to see you! I'm looking forward to hear what 8-string jangliness you come up with :).
[avatar]
