I play under the moniker of Brad Bru & The Crowd Goes Wild. I also produce/host/compose for a thrice-annual evening of live radio plays in Chicago called Whiskey Radio Hour. My first FAWM was in 2012 and I've done it every year since.

In Nov 2022, I released an album on the subjects of faith and doubt. Much different from my typical output, I'd say. Links (Soundcloud and Bandcamp) are above. Thanks!

Thanks for your words on "Overjoyed", Brad! Glad you enjoyed!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments! To answer your question, it's DADGBD. Despite how similar it is to standard, I've been surprised at the open voicings you can get with that high E also down a full step.
[avatar]
@amelea
Honored at the "Another stellar vocal performance" comment 😄 Thanks for checking out Kill Switch!
[avatar]
@b3nut
Thanks for the comments on "The Water Is Safe but Everything's Dead"!
[avatar]
Hi thanks for asking about "At the Haunted Drive In" - I think the music came first - I'd been fiddling around with several plugins for my DAW and the tune sounded haunting and the drum sounds I was interested in at the start were very sixties girl bands, so where else would they be going than a haunted drive in? :) I had a whole plan to exploit these kinds of ideas for a concept album but unfortunately my abilities were outmatched by my ambition so it sort of fell to the side while songs I could feel comfortable with came to the front. But I still think I'll do it one day.
[avatar]
You and your Saxophone playing Satan observation is why I kept bringing back more sax samples! It became a literary device to represent the devil. Well it also sounded kinda cool/funny in a half ironic kinda way…
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to "The End is Coming For Us!" "I wound my heat in wool" was one of the lines I felt unlocked that piece for me.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "These Days" (the ending hit me too!) and I'm sorry to hear you have first hand experience with memory loss in family members.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on 'Drag 'Em Out'! I absolutely remember the Pac-Man collab and remember loving your version! That was my the year of my very first FAWM. And, don't worry: given how things look, the angry me is likely to persist for a while...! 😂 Also, congrats on your FAWM win!!
[avatar]
@debs
Hi Brad! Any interest in doing Morph 1 now? I don't think Morph 5 is going to get to you. :) Let me know and I'll...wait...."Penis with the Wings of an Eagle"?? WHERE IS THIS MAGICAL SONG?

Here's what you'd be morphing - let me know! https://write.fawm.org/songs/19423
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments, Brad! I appreciate you.
[avatar]
@fuzzy
"Penis with the Wings of an Eagle"???????
That was you?!?!?
I was thinking about that song the other day and wishing I could remember who did that.
A work of brilliance.
Your name will live on down through the ages.
[avatar]
@fuzzy
Sorry about that, Mr. B!
Moved you up on the list!
[avatar]
it's a Kontact accordion ;) I actually do have a real accordion I could have used but had to scramble to record this haha. although now kicking myself for not just quickly doing melodica...
[avatar]
Hi Brad! Thanks for saying hello! I hope all is groovy with Whiskey Radio Hour! I'm glad you liked my 10x10.
[avatar]
Thx for the note on No Comment! Meant to be more amusing than scathing but I’ll take it! Looking forward to listening to more of your stuff.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment!
"Girl`s always in same float" might be a kind of denglish ;-) To think german und to write in english.
[avatar]
@amelea
Ay, thanks for listening to Sooo (Many Girls). Really cool to hear about initial reactions to different parts of it! Thanks for sharing :)
[avatar]
@brisk
Please don't worry about the I Got A Girl thing - my brain is always looking for those kinds of things, it probably says a lot more about me than it does about your song! It sounds great just the way it is.
[avatar]
Glorious Disaster has always been about love-- love of music, love of hair metal, love of our fans, but especially love of our significant others. Thanks for the kind words!
[avatar]
@jamkar
Thank you! Winter’s Tale was a pleasure to sing.
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks a lot for your comment! Yes, Nadia and Caitlin did a great job!
[avatar]
Yeah that's the devil on sax again!
[avatar]
@amelea
Thanks for the comments!! I like how you brought light to the "mattress on the ceiling" lyric :)
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind comments on 'So Many Lies' , much appreciated!
[avatar]
I have reached out via the email you gave - let's do this!
[avatar]
@nadine
Hey! I'm glad you enjoyed "Glimpse". It's also one of my favourites this year. Plot twist: I played the whole song on my nylon string guitar.
[avatar]
Thanks for your feedback on Glimpse!
[avatar]
@nadine
All cool with that 😎 I stole that idea from the former song page! Such a bummer they removed that feature.
[avatar]
oooh am i trip-hop? cool! i don't know my genres, i thought i might be wrong with drum n bass but they were the only instruments i used so i went with it haha :) thanks for the listen :)
[avatar]
You're spot on about the devil. Imagine how cool it would be to switch from sax on beat 4 to flute on beat 1 of the next measure. I'm jealous...
[avatar]
Thanks for listening/commenting on Danger Cupcake! I appreciate it 😀
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to We Gotta Move. The electric is something we have resisted.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words on Ride It Out and sorry to hear that you experience(d) this struggle yourself.
[avatar]
Thanks for the encouraging comment on my song! Hopefully Bourbon is ok for the whiskey hour!
[avatar]
@clioem
Hey! thanks for your kind comment and for catching those switches! Took me a LOT of time to work out that weekend haha! It's actually a 6/4 going to a 4/4 but with the hemiolas yes, you are hearing a 5/4 effect! Thanks so much!
[avatar]
@sollis
Thanks for listening to my track and leaving a kind comment!

By the way, I adore Stanley Jordan. I heard his version of Eleanor Rigby when I was younger and was blown away. To this day I refuse to believe he's human, and have no aspiration to even try playing like him, but a comparison to his tone is more than praise enough for me!
[avatar]
@bradbrubaker -- yes (though it was garden-variety political -- anti-nuclear war -- protesting), but you seem to be the ONLY person who listened to it who got that element (and the story is definitely broader than that), so I think once I've made it to 14 songs I'll try a different way in to that element that'll make it less easy to miss.
[avatar]
Ha! The Poop Fight lyric was so delightful that I *had* to comment in the style ;)

Yeah, @ductapeguy set the standard for our IRL friends to make cover art pre-FAWM. Glad you like mine :) Maybe Sean needs to lead an official prompt for cover art theme songs/title tracks?
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your comment, Brad! Well, in a parallel universe, Blues may started differently. Why do I have to think about Firefly?!!
[avatar]
Thanks, Brad. I think you're the only commenter who mentioned "Spinning discs by this dish with a delicate wrist" and, to be honest, it's one of my personal favorites. :)
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "His Sun".
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind comment on my song. The bit you identified sounds like it does because it's pitch shifted, because I can't hit the note. I am not, and will never be, a live performer.
[avatar]
Thanks for the additional info on the abrupt change in tone in Shakespeare’s “A Winter’s Tale.” I think I could get into that contrast.
[avatar]
Okay, thanks! I hope I wasn’t too unkind about New Yorkers!
[avatar]
Thank you very much for your kind comment on "Far away from home"
That's a very interesting scene you describe. But that's why I love improvisations so much, because the listener can bring his own pictures and draw them in his head. Thanks
[avatar]
thank you for you rcomments on clitheslines. the flyswatting line is my favorite as well.
[avatar]
@ayais
Brad - I don't really know how this site works yet, and you had a story about a baritone guitar on one of my songs, and I put in a response there, but in case you don't see it, I'll repeat a little.

Transposing on the fly on the bari is surprisingly easy.

I converted a decent standard classical guitar with a big .54 string on the low E position, tossed the high E and shifted the remaining 5 strings up, so there's still an E where the A would be on a standard, an A where there would be a D, etc.

It fills up the space, doesn't it?
[avatar]
Thanks for letting me know about the morph! Love your wonderfully fun and campy song and look forward to working on something!
[avatar]
@fuzzy
Haha no, I almost always pitch shift my voice down for spoken word stories, especially when I'm playing someone like that stupid jerk who loses babies.
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your comment, Brad! I wrote "Me and my guitar" from a perspective I usually don't use. Just streching my muscles as a lyricist.
[avatar]
@roy
Hey Brad, sent the email, but here's a google link to everything anyways. Chop it all up, do whatever ya want, I'm real curious how anyone interpolates this into something else. It's weird being the seed for something like this!

[avatar]
sent :)
[avatar]
haha yeah sure :)
[avatar]
@roy
Hey there, I'll send you the labeled stems for the song and you can do whatever the heck you want with them! I'll send the details in email.
[avatar]
@sci
it occurs to me that I have a fair bit of experience to lean on for my "fun little exercises" ;)
thanks for the comment

@fuzzy
Darn it, now I have a poop fight earworm. 💩
[avatar]
@gm7

thx
[avatar]
@roy

[avatar]
Thanks for the comment! 🙌
[avatar]
@ayais
Thanks for the solid feedback.
[avatar]
thanks for your interesting comments on "Green Comet"
[avatar]
Thanks for the inspiring comments on my last song. I appreciate you!
[avatar]
@lowhum
Thanks for the comments, there is actually a band Barracudas if that's what you mean, I just fell obliged to include it in my lyrics from time to time to impress and old friend
[avatar]
@gm7
Thx for comment on Green Comet Blue Planet. I am currently working on our collab....should be ready in a few days
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks a lot for your comment on Princess. Yes I will leave the harpsichord in when we rerecord the song. But first I have to find a band...
[avatar]
Thank you for your wonderful comment!
[avatar]
@atam94
Hey Brad! The Melee pedal is a shoegaze style distortion/reverb unit and I used it subtly for the bowed guitar parts. It'll be used more obviously a little later on
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to my jam. :)
[avatar]
Weirdly enough, I'm on a flight right now and got an audible trial and got his Tenth of December short stories, so if I like these I'll definitely go for that!
[avatar]
@gm7
Hey Brad...let's have some fun. I like your challenge for this FAWM...write to existing music. I am game form that. I can write some music and based on the vibe of the song your can write the lyrics and sing....is that OK with you?
[avatar]
Hello hello! Yeah I didn't really get the hype with Brave New World to be honest. It felt important and ahead of its time, but for actual enjoyment? Bar the first and last few chapters I wasn't overly impressed. I read a review that said Huxley was so set on getting his ideas/philosophy across that he forgot to write a good story and good characters. I thought that sorta nailed it, albeit a bit harsh!
[avatar]
Hi, you wild man
Looking forward to your offerings this FAWM
[avatar]
@gm7
We are matched for the random collaboration...what do you have in mind
I'm open to anything.
[avatar]
Have an excellent FAWM, Brad.
[avatar]
@clioem
Happy FAWMing!
[avatar]
Thank you for the welcome, sir! And same to you! Have a terrific FAWM!
[avatar]
Good to see you Brad. Let's do this.
[avatar]
Big hello to you! I hope that you are well and that your fawm is fantastic!
[avatar]
@thetau
Hey Brad, Just dropped by to say hi. Have a great FAWM. Yep I ll be listening
[avatar]
Here is why I chuckle: in South Africa, we have a "bro" equivalent, which is "bru". It's from the Afrikaans word for brother, and the vowel rhymes with "oo". Say it like "brew" but drop the w off the end.

You would generally do well here, for example, if you greeted someone with, "Howzit my bru".

Yes it is a lame joke. Yes it is lamer now that I have explained it.

Good to see you, Bru.
[avatar]
I look forward to what Brad's gonna brew. Musically and otherwise!
[avatar]
Happy FAWMing! Looking forward to another year. ;)
[avatar]
@beacon
Glad to see you back, and congrats on the recording!
[avatar]
Editing this because I didn't see your post was in the forums and not on my soundboard (it's been a long day already and it's not even noon lol). But I stand by my closing statement that maybe we need some unofficial "F*cked Around, Wrote Music" merch :D
[avatar]
@fuzzy
Hey!
Have a great FAWM!!!
[avatar]
@nadine
You're welcome. After FAWM is before FAWM. I never rest!
[avatar]
Happy FAWMing, Brad! Glad to see you back.
[avatar]
@atam94
Welcome back, Brad!
