Jackfruit of all trades.
Spacewave nostalgia in E minor.
Aiming for too many French horns, too many vocal tracks, too much reverb.

~~~
I have always enjoyed listening to and making music.
In 2020, I finally started recording and producing my own music, and I love everything about it.
~~~

Plans for 2023:
1) Compose 14 songs despite everything else
2) Connect with other musicians
3) Maybe write some Star Trek filk?
4) Have fun!

~~~
Todo-List:
[1] Explore space sounds!
[2] Experiment and have fun!
[1] Skirmishes!
[1] At least one Morph Challenge
[4] Put these new guitar "skills" I honed over the past year to the test
[1] Write some lyrical lyrics
[1] Write a song with simple lyrics
[ . ] Use some of the ideas recorded on the mobile phone
[1] One song that uses at least 2 languages, preferably 3 or even more
[ . ] Weekly challenge?
[1] Use reverb and delay as a dominant technique
[1] Layered vocals
[3] Starting with improvisation and develop something nice from there
[1] A dance-able track
~~~

FAWM 2021: 14 songs
FAWM 2022: 15 songs

@arkka
Thanks for the comment!

Hey, Chroes - I'm not sure if I told you how much I love Locked Outside the Garden / Wenn es wieder Mondnacht wird. Vielen, vielen Dank. Das Lied ist wunderschön.
[avatar]
@nadine
Have fun with your D&D sessions. I wish I had some *sigh* Good luck and don't be tooo strict with the characters 😀
[avatar]
@debs
Hi Chris! Just checking in on the morph!
[avatar]
@nadine
Yeah, this year FAWM has been a struggle for some of my friends and acquaintances. I'm happy you tried and even if you only write 3 songs that's better than none. Not sure if I will win FAWM but thus has not been my intention. I wrote a couple of awesome tracks that's fine.
There will be some skirmishes in our time zone this weekend. I'm pondering if I shall join or organise one cause I have enough songs ...
[avatar]
@nadine
Hey, how are you doing?
[avatar]
@kiffa
Would you be open to jumping on Zoom and maybe talking about it a bit? I record music with a sequencer (hence my comment about doing things 'differently' then most other musicians) and figuring out how to make that work might take a little doing. Since your e-mail is listed, we can do that for further contact if you like.
[avatar]
@kiffa
Maybe??? I am TERRIFIED of collabs, I haven't done one on here before, as I tend to work very slowly, and in a different way than most musicians. We can give it a try, but if it starts to take too long, you might want to move on lol... taking a long time with my own songs doesn't bother me, but I don't want to hold someone else back.
[avatar]
@erbaer
Oh, Sorry. I'm done with the morph but didn't post in the thread. I'll go do that now!

Oh I dunno I've always fancied trying space travel so let's combine the two - party on Mars! Thanks again for checking my tunes out
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you, I'm happy that you enjoyed "Me and my guitar". I have no intentions to record that one for real, because of the lyrics. It's not my genre, and I really don't feel like a singer. But I left open if somebody wants to work on it.
[avatar]
@brisk
Ha, thanks for the kind comment. There's no keymashing like faked, piano roll keymashing!
[avatar]
Thank you, Chris! Bitter chocolate is my favourite kind. 😀
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your kind words on "High Noon". I guess I leave it instrumental. I could never play this guitar haha 😀
[avatar]
Oh my god thank you so much, also for your recommendation, it really means a lot to me!!! <3<3<3 hope you are recovering well
[avatar]
I love both of your songs so far. Great work. Imagining something for the struggle bus idea, about not letting struggle drive the bus, but putting struggle in the tank as fuel or as windshield wiper fluid - to help you see clearly....Hasn't quite gelled yet, but maybe we'll get there. I was remembering that last year there was a lyric of mine about being locked outside the garden, beside the open gate, I borrowed a lot from a Rilke poem and you mentioned you might like to do something with it. Absolutely no pressure, but if you wanted it, I'd send it along..Maybe it could even work for your multi-language goal - floating the lyric in English over the poem in German....But my cousin taught me, "Give a Gift, Not a Burden" so really, only if it moves you.
[avatar]
Hi Chris, thanks for commenting on Let Go, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Happy FAWM!
[avatar]
Thanks for connecting about Little Pigs. I didnt know it was in there until it came out. But yeah, a bit of dramatised social realism can't be a bad thing.
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comment on Let Go! Much appreciated <3
[avatar]
Thx a lot for comments on "Stranger to myself" I love you`re description. Also since I try to go a little bit darker this year. If I can though...
[avatar]
@muz
I have one star trek poem called Borg Planet. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one thinking of it!
[avatar]
Yes. For me singing in German makes me feel 16 again. As a 16 year old I was pretty confident that I could do and fix anything the world had to throw at me. It's so much fun to speak German now with my own 16 year old - and feel a little bit like we're school friends. (Damals war alles affengeil....)
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments. I've actually considered trying to write an alt-horror musical at some point (love stuff like Devils Carnival)
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out Eating and Drinking. Glad you enjoyed it.
[avatar]
Feel free! As I said, the lyrics are a gift to everyone who feels like they are on the struggle bus. I'd love to hear how it turns out.
[avatar]
Chroes - I was so moved by what you wrote about the strugglebus. I loved how you took this internal struggle and put it out there for other people to board. There's a storybook that my kids loved when they were little called "Don't Let Pigeon Drive the Bus" We used to make up a whole series of bedtime stories along the lines of "Don't Let the Pigeon... Skate in the Park..Play Baseball...Get a Job..." So I was imagining a new one "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Struggle Bus"

@manuel
Danke für die freundliche Begrüßung und Dir ebenfalls einen schönen FAWM! Ich denke, ich brauche noch ein bißchen, bis ich mich hier wirklich zurechtfinde, aber die Atmosphäre ist schon mal sehr freundlich.
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks a lot for your comment on Princess! I'm happy you enjoyed! I hope we get a full band. I really can't pull that off with my playing but screaming these lyrics has been fun
[avatar]
Hi, happy fawm!! I am so curious about space sounds
[avatar]
Hello! I saw your forum thread on the need for a certain feature (I don't want to comment and revive the debate) and want to say that you are 100% correct. This is something I have been advocating for for years and it is based on personal experiences. Yes - plural. the reality is that the patriarchy and systemic marginalization do not stop at a log-in screen. ANY log-in screen. In fact, many of my songs are about this matter. People deserve to retain their agency even within community spaces. Anyway, wanted to share my +1 and thanks for bringing up the topic. Have a great FAWM!
[avatar]
@cblack
Thanks! You too!
[avatar]
Have a great FAWM - will be watching for some songs to be uploaded so I can give them a listen.
[avatar]
Thank you for the words! Happy FAWM to you too. :] - Jordan
[avatar]
Happy Fawm, fellow spicy-brain friend!
[avatar]
Hi! Auch Dir ein creatives, spaßiges, wundervolles FAWM!
[avatar]
Thanks! Like, if an AI is trained on a consensual dataset then I have no issue with it. But they're not, and it bothers me.
[avatar]
hallo aus Lissabon! have a great FAWM, dear! ❤️
[avatar]
Heya, danke - dir auch ein wundervolles FAWM in regionaler Nähe! :-)
[avatar]
Yo! Happy FAWM!
[avatar]
hello, dear! let's FAWM? 🤗
[avatar]
Too much reverb is the perfect amount! Have a fantastic FAWM 😀
[avatar]
@irka
hej Chris, bin gespannt dich zu hören. ich selber verspreche besser nichts nach den wüsten Jahren...
[avatar]
Oh, I notice you have "explore space sounds" top of your to do list. I'm hear for that big time!
[avatar]
Hey, thanks! And a good FAWM to you too!
Oh, man. So-called AI is such a hot topic. I know a lot of artists and writers who are worried about it. I heard the other day that Buzzfeed have started using these apps to write articles. It really sucks.
I think Cave's take is spot on though. 😀
[avatar]
why thank you! may your fawm be most brilliant !
[avatar]
@nadine
Bitte! Wo kann man dich eigentlich außerhalb FAWM erreichen? Schreib mir bitte mal ne Mail ich bin nicht auf Mastodon
[avatar]
@nadine
Hey, ich wollte dich nur mal virtuell drücken. Ich kann deine Worte sehr gut nachvollziehen. Lasst uns einfach auf Songs schreiben fokussieren :) Deine To Do Liste ist SEHR lang!
[avatar]
Hey there! Thanks so much for saying hello. I'm really looking forward to hearing what you come up with too. Your bio definitely has me intrigued. I am also Team Too Many Vocal Tracks aka Why Can't I Hold all These High Mid Frequencies?? I hope you have a fantastic FAWM yourself<3
[avatar]
"Zappa Don't Preach" is a great fake band name for so many reasons!
[avatar]
Vielen Dank, das wünsch ich dir auch!
«Too Many French Horns»-Gang unite! <3
[avatar]
@reklov
Hey Chris! Danke für die nette Begrüßung! :-)
Na, du hast dir ja einiges vorgenommen in diesem Februar! Dann mal frohes kreatives Schaffen - vielleicht laufen wir uns ja mal akustisch über den Weg...!
[avatar]
oooh, @chroes that multi-language song sounds like fun. So glad you’re back.
[avatar]
@yam655
Hello and happy FAWM! That note about "use reverb and delay as a dominant technique" reminds of some of the experimental stuff I've done. (Reverb is fun.) In particular, there's this one: https://yam655.com/j/2017-02/19_r1728/ -- which was done as a skirmish back in FAWM 2017. I look forward to finding out where you'll take it!
[avatar]
welcome back!
[avatar]
Wishing you a lovely FAWM!

You've made an excellent case in "that thread" and I hope the admins will act to improve the community!

BTW try not to be disheartened by the opposing reactions over there. This will be my 11th FAWM and one thing I have seen here on occasion is a knee-jerk, circle-the-wagons, "how dare you suggest improvements to this perfect space" reaction! We can get a little culty at times. :D

Anyway, I can't wait to hear your new music next month! <3
[avatar]
Hope your FAWM goes well! thanks for making that thread even if some people were being real pricks towards you in it.
[avatar]
Absolutely. I appreciate all your thoughts and thought it wise to get an official opinion out there. Hopefully it came across the way I intended. I hope you have a fantastic FAWM!! Looks like your previous ones have gone well. Looking forward to hearing the new stuff!
[avatar]
Howdy and thanks for the welcome back! Music will be made! And then made again... and again... and.... :)
[avatar]
Right back at you, Chris!!! I like darkwave and synthpop! Looking forward to listening to your music!
[avatar]
Hello! Looking forward to your music!

[avatar]

[avatar]
Hello Chris! Happy FAWMing to you! 😀
[avatar]
@nadine
Good to know you're doing well and found a happy place in the net. I waited for your posts on Instagram. 😢 Last year, I barely had a day without music and I'm still working on too much in parallel 😇
[avatar]
Hehe thanks! I had to try a bunch before one looked good with the weird filter, but this one is a picture I drew of my cat Rafa and turns out he's cute regardless of the colour! Happy FAWM to you!
[avatar]
@nadine
Welcome back 💕 Where have you been 🤗?
