This is my 4th FAWM.
Over the past few years I have had some wonderful collabs...just another way to expand your musical horizons and meet some super great artists.
Mainly a guitar player but I have been learning/practicing the piano and bass. The plan is to incorporate these instruments into my music production, especially the piano. I usually write/start songs on a guitar but this year i am going to use the piano as the main "starting" point for a song creation...we will see!

I record at my small home studio 14'x14' using Studio One Pro 5.5 with a Steinberg UR 4i6 audio interface and do my own mixing and mastering. I made the commitment to write more lyrics in the past few years and it's a slow learning process but fun.

Main guitars are:
Fender 1997 stock tele
Epiphone Mark II
Red Squire Strat
First Act electric modified (painted matt black, a new Seymore Duncan humbucker and pots)
Fender Jag bass(a gift from my daughter )
D16 Martin Acoustic
114ce Taylor Acoustic
ES335 Epiphone
PRS Santana SE version
An old teardrop Mandolin (circa 1910).

Amps:
1998 Fender Ultra 112Plus amp
2012 Fender Acoustasonic amp
2009 Washburn bass amp
Keyboard
M-Audio Keystation 49

Personal pronouns he/ him  Gm7 or Garry are Ok too

Thanks G!! I’m still so happy with the guitar work you sent me for Splinter. Thank you for being such a thoughtful friend and musician! Have a lovely spring 🐝
[avatar]
@beacon
Garry, can you give me the link to the course you mentioned?
[avatar]
Thanks for popping by to listen to my oddball "He’s Hot For Her" -- I appreciate it! And I do think "newukenewyork" as a handle is one of my better life decisions. ;)
[avatar]
Hey GM7
I hear you on being sorely behind on listening. Then before you know it the site will be down!! Thanks for taking a few minutes to listen to my collab with @davidtaro Sisters. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and i'm trying to cram as much listening in as possible!!
[avatar]
Hi Garry - You had mentioned maybe coming to FAWMStock West. I wanted to be sure to relay details of what the current plan is.

We've narrowed down the weekend and venue for FAWMStock West -
August 18th through 20th in Ocean Park, WA!
Cost is planned to be about $84 (plus fees) per person, not including food. That costs covers lodging on site and activity space.

We need to put together a minimum count of attendees to be able to reserve the facility. We'd like to have that information within the next two weeks or less, if possible.

If you are planning or at least leaning strongly toward attending FAWMStock West, would you please add your info to this Google Form:

https://forms.gle/oFMRsWhvER5RfqzWA

Please note that this form is just to confirm if there is enough people to make this happen. If we get enough people signed up, we'll probably setup an EventBrite page or something similar later this year as more details get worked out.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Sorry, just saw @cts talk about living down the street from eachother; if I was in the same neighborhood, ya'll wouldn't be able to keep me out! I'd be raiding ya'lls fridges, eatin' the chips out ya'll pantries (you KNOW craig has a lifetime supply of CHIPS), and trying to get a bbq going like everyday! lol and that's not to mention bugging you all with music stuff! one can dream....
[avatar]
Yo man, finally getting around to responding to what you wrote on my soundboard (almost called my "wall" - went back to oldschool MySpace for a minute lol).
I really appreciate you, dude - you're always so encouraging and always have something nice to say about my stuff. I also appreciate you even WANTING to jump on any of my tracks; means a lot to me!
Yeah 50/90 should be more Megamind focused for me, so looking forward to us all getting together!
Take care until then and i'll see you around on the discord!
[avatar]
@cts
Mutual admiration, sir. Can you imagine if we lived down the street from each other? Wouldn't that just be insane?!?
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on “Two Bottles Of Beer” - really appreciated! :-)

I think fawm radio is a good thing, whether or not it changes what I do with my podcast is of no real consequence! The important thing is getting a wider listening audience to Fawmers. I would personaly be a bit concerned if it was just a place where fawmers listen to fawmers! Firstly as it wouldn't widen the audience and secondly in my experience is it would slowly fade. Take this year all the hype again on how March would be big everyone would be staying. It is very dead already on 9 march. The forums are not a 10th what they were and it's the old hard core who are listening again. I expect this to happen because people make such huge efforts in Feb and its not sustainable long term! That could easily happen with fawm radio if it can't tap into a wider market and you will end up with a huge effort for a handful of listeners. It can work but it will need a lot of work ! For a start there needs to be an understanding of why! And what are its goals.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to "It Don’t Land Easy" -- I'm glad you liked the "molecules" lyric. I am not a scientist, but I like science in my lyrics. :) I also love your user name -- it's a great chord!
[avatar]
Heh, to be fair, I asked ChatGPT to come up with some of the titles. 😂
[avatar]
@jeff9
Bless you, Garry, for checking out Pack Up and Leave. Your encouraging words make me grin today. Thanks, man.
[avatar]
Thanks for your nice remarks on "I Never Wanted to Say Goodbye". To answer your question, yes, I have done a couple of musical plays but quit doing that because I have a devil of a time remembering the script and, even worse, I stood out like a sore thumb in the dance routines. I think if anything in my past has helped with my performance, it would be nine or ten years teaching high school as well as being in several small-town bands that played for weddings and bars. I'm no longer involved with any of that.

It looks like you are a fellow Canadian. Yay!
[avatar]
I’m jealous of all your playing. I’m barely a jack of all trades, your a hell of a player dude!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Hey, thanks, Garry for the kind words about Wishin' is Like Fishin'. Sorry we didn't get around to a collab this FAWM. Need to make sure we do better during 50/90, if not sooner!
[avatar]
Thank you. ❤️
[avatar]
@beacon
Garry, the sound file wasn't in the email, but just post it! I trust that you made something wonderful!
[avatar]
@beacon
Garry, I sent you an email with links to lyrics and a demo that I made for the Renews song. I'm feeling very good about it. Want to chat in Kumospace tomorrow?
[avatar]
@mctown
Thanks for the guitar work...David
[avatar]
I posted our collab :) Thanks again for the guitar work--it's the highlight of the song for me. I really struggled singing those initial high notes I sent you earlier in the month, but did my best and finished in Feb!! That is a WIN for me. I'll take it. Have an awesome rest of your weekend, friend!!
[avatar]
@beacon
Garry, I've been doing some writing of ideas, and I'm planning on basically using your chords, but I'm going to put down a new base track, as the timing was difficult for me to get the flow of the words in. I'm going to put down something and get it for you to put your sweet, sweet guitar parts behind.
[avatar]
Ha, the Queen note was totally accidental, but I’m also totally gonna claim it 😂 thanks Garry!
[avatar]
@beacon
I didn't break it skiing! That's a plus!
I think I might just see what I can do with the Renews song myself. I've got some time this weekend.
[avatar]
Thanks G!!
[avatar]
thank you for your comments on a little bit of lonely. outside of the overwhelming influence of the king, doo wop was where it all began for me. dion and the belmonts showed me that even if you didnt have a voice like elvis, you could do alright if you had some back up harmonies.
[avatar]
What is your email. Bass too...yes. Your production skills are awesome too. All I have are the lyrics and know it is the blues...with a little humor ( as it should be) I tried clicking on you email, but it didn't work.
If you want to hear how I sound, check out the last 2

Hi Garry
You don't know me, and I am a recent fan of yours.
After reading the Geezers thread, I decided to write a geezer song. I am an authentic geezerette! :-)
I decided that I wanted to do a collab with a fellow "Geezer", so I checked out the thread, and you are the man!
If you have time and interest, let me know.
I would like you to do a guitar track. I would sing it. I am pretty jazzy bluesy
It is called Not Old ( Just out of Warranty )
This would be an entirely random collab!
[avatar]
(seems to be a theme - "This has serious Supertramp vibes with the rhythm of the piano bounce and the overall proggish feel to it. And that's not a bad thing at all!")
[avatar]
The fog came after/during the recording. Voodoo music.
[avatar]
Garry, So glad you liked Gwyn's and my song, If This Is Love, I Don't Like It. He really did produce an earworm with that music. I have been humming it all day! Thanks for listening.
[avatar]
Well thankyou. My husband and I just booked a bus tour from McCarthy’s Tours in July, From Cornerbrook to Deer Lake, Gander and down to St. John’s.
[avatar]
Thank you for the lovely comments on Distant Memories. The mandolin was by @monty, not me. He created the instrument backing for the entire song.
[avatar]
I sang our collab last night down an octave to practice. That’s how low my voice is right now LOL!! At least it’s back tho :)
[avatar]
@beacon
Lynn gets back from Mexico tomorrow
[avatar]
@fonte
Thanks for listening to my weird jam. And, close, it’s a telecaster! 😌
[avatar]
@mikeb
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Ghosts of Copper Mountain'!
[avatar]
@b3nut
Thanks for the kind comments Garry!
[avatar]
I’m excited! I’ll help with lyrics, though I’d not call myself a great lyricists, something I’m working on quite hard this FAWM to become better at lol.
[avatar]
Thanks! I dare any radio station to play that particular song
[avatar]
@sollis
Nice wahing on the Funky Vibes track (aptly named, by the way) you linked me to, Garry! I was just thinking about breaking out the wah pedal earlier today!
[avatar]
@sollis
Oh it was a Tele not a Strat! Well, now I look silly, hah! How do you get on with the PRS? Every now and then I get into a Santana obsessed phase and start wishing I had a PRS. As much as I love my Strat, it can't achieve that impossibly long sustain that you hear in a lot of Santana's songs.
[avatar]
Sounds wonderful! I’m all in for something jazzy. I’m getting better, still sniffling a bit but it’s fine :)
[avatar]
Hey! Oh wow thank you for the huge compliment! Actually I don’t have one single colab on my list yet, so yes!!! I’m interested. Just let me know when you’re ready. You can also reach me via E-Mail. I’ll check out your songs :)
[avatar]
@nadine
Haha, got you! My screams don't rip off my voice or throat. My muscles ache a bit after a time and I have to drink a lot of water!
I always wondered if cherry liquor helps the same when you got that sore throat.
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your comments! I'm glad you enjoyed. Ehm but what kind of product or beverage is Buckleys?
[avatar]
@kiffa
Thank you Garry, your comment on "Easter Sunday" is very appreciated. I'm glad you liked it.
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated!
[avatar]
Garry, I'd love to do a collab about volcanoes! I like what you suggested, send me something and I'll add to it!
[avatar]
thanks for your comments on Hungary, It is not a collab though.
[avatar]
Excellent! Just sent you an email.
[avatar]
@djtjb
Thanks Garry you are the best!
[avatar]
You’re a legend garry
[avatar]
@beacon
I worked with Beto a bit and we got it so that I could at least record something. I already had phantom power when I was using my old mic, but the new mic and the whole set up confounded me and Beto. We'll see if I can get something better set up.
[avatar]
Sounds great!

@gm7
TAPE 7: tba
Song link: tba
1. @gm7 A
2. @gubna B
3. @erbaer C
4. @bigb D
Producer: @gm7

Here is the order....based on the 4 -track guidlines. YOUR finished part will be forwarded to me and the next person on the list. A to B, A+B to C etc.
So from here on we will receiving the next element of the song ...blindly. This will be interesting. So I have to start it off.....
Let's have some fun!
[avatar]
@erbaer
Yes, Lyrics for me all the way! Sorry, I don't know exactly how these things work. I've only done one 4track challenge and it just seemed to be ' here are two tracks-do something'...nothing pre-assigned.
[avatar]
Hey hey! Excited to be paired with you. I am challenging myself to write lyrics to existing music. I am up for anything in regards to that. If you'd like to pitch ideas, I'm game. If you'd just like to write something and send it my way, I'm game. If you'd like to do something more collaborative like partial lyrics/partial music each, I am also game. But the one thing I do not want to do is write lyrics first. That is less of a challenge for me. How does that sound?
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Garry. Rock on!
[avatar]
Happy FAWM, Garry :)
[avatar]
@sarahk
Hi Garry, thanks for the welcome!! Happy FAWM!

Looking forward to the vocalist collaboration!
[avatar]
My kids are getting older, things are a little more complex at work for a number of reasons, I'm in 2 plays... it's busy! But as I said, going to try to squeeze some FAWM into the cracks.
[avatar]
Hey Garry! I'll be lurking and listening. HAPPY FAWM!
[avatar]
Thank you! I’m excited as well and very much looking forward to it! Just let me know when you have something in mind and I’ll try to arrange some free time :)

[avatar]
@yam655
Hi Garry! I hope you have a great FAWM!
[avatar]
Thanks G!! I'm curious to hear your new stuff writing with piano first!! I'm certainly not as good of a guitar player as you, but I've found creating songs with piano/synths first lead to more interesting chord progressions for me personally! I sure hope you have loads of fun <3
[avatar]
The. Garr. Bear!!!!!
[avatar]

Garry! Here's to more glorious guitary goodness, can't wait!
[avatar]
This is my 10th FAWM, actually, though there have been many I've skipped. I'll consider this my 2-year anniversary of my second FAWMage or something? Anyway, nice to see another Studio One user. With any luck we'll get a chance to cross paths musically on something that bears fruit!
[avatar]
Have a fabulous February, my friend. Bring the yummies!
[avatar]
Good morning! Great to be back. Here's to another good day.
