UPDATE: WOOHOO!!! 14 songs in 26 days!!!
Looking forward to catching up on replying, listening, and commenting in #MALM - as seems to be the way, creating kinda took over... thank you for the encouragement folks, really kept me going through my first FAWM.
~~~
Storyteller & secret #singer_songwriter coming out of hiding. Think #pagan with #folky femme voice, plus bass-heavy (#industrial ?) backing tracks and a dash of #magick ... And occasionally #steampunk silliness! Learning music production and loving it.
I've told tales to hundreds of people but still not been brave enough to sing at an open mic... Let's change that!
Steps to courage taken:
2nd - started sharing rough demos here.
3rd - shared my first in person live song!
15th - investigating which songs I can sing without a backing track...
24th - I now have a selection of songs I think I can do justice to with just my voice! & a couple of Tom Lehrer covers that I've loved *forever*. Next up, actually learning them & working out patter for between songs. Later I may attempt to add an egg shaker/chords/similar... But after FAWM!
I feel like I can share songs I've written live now!
I'm Neurodivergent (mostly ADHD), rather queer, explicitly witchy, and a Dr of Philosophy. If that sounds like fun we can be friends!
~~~
Goals:
[/] Share 7+ songs - which means beating the perfectionist in me. (DONE! And now 14!!! Skirmishing ftw!)
[/] Create a routine that supports regular music making. (Pretty happy with how I'm doing now!)
[/] Build my confidence & work out how to share at a local open mic. (see above)
[] A #slothcore song.
[/] A #queer song.
[/] A #pagan song. (#oraclechallenge)
[/] An #acoustic song!
[/] A #teashanties or #ITShanties song (FILKED Café Shanty!)
[/] Song for the #darkmirror challenge - card: "Calling the Storm"
[/] Find new musicians to follow and connect with! 😁

Thank you for your comment on be my ghost! Glad you liked it.

Thank you :)!! @nancycunning and @haloquin , nice to meet you too! I’m staying for the listening party after FAWM and will try to listen to everything I missed!
[avatar]
@haloquin - I think you will like @intoyourlight ’s music a lot. The Selkie song is actually @loveonamixtape (my brain’s auto complete function is a little wonky)
[avatar]
@nancycunning oooh, thanks! I love the selkie myths and am delighted that you remembered my song 🥰 thank you!

And I'm not sad to be introduced to @intoyourlight's music, tbf... Nice to "meet" you 😁
[avatar]
Fixed up the attribution on that song. Sorry for the confusion.
[avatar]
@nancycunning am I tagged wrong here? ;) not my song!

I thought about your Little Mermaid song when I listened to Selkie by @loveonamixtape https://write.fawm.org/songs/12770 Thought you might like it.

My husband has a big staff/walking stick that he walks the roads with, a neighbor told him that he and his wife had been trying to figure out if it he had it as protection against wild animals. There are bears around and coyotes as well as deer and other smaller woodland critters. Some people say they’ve seen mountain lions too. My old, old stories are from a book called Grandfather Tales that my grandmother gave me. The stories come from the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee and are like fairy tales but set in those places, and told in that vernacular. A few years after I got the book, my family moved North where people talked differently from in Tennessee. I think that probably made those stories feel even more important to me like as a connection to my true language. A lot if the songs I write lead back to some of those ways of talking and telling stories.

Thank you so much for your kind comments! I hope you love The Fox's Tower and other Tales. It's got so many little gems in it.

I'll take grim and fun! Thanks for checking out "who's the bear" :)

Thanks for listening to 'metronome' and your comments on my page as well! =D
[avatar]
Ah, thanks for the comments. I was fond of "rested on your morals," too. Glad someone else heard it. :)
[avatar]
Thanks. I'm not doing arrangements until after February but when I do I think I'll keep that one quite sparse anyway.

@scubed

Hi Haloquin, fellow AuDHD here, also in Wales and coincidentally I did my first singing gig in 4yrs at Aberystwyth Arts centre last Friday!
I also hope to get over the perfectionist in me so here’s hoping we both slay it!
Oh yes and I’m also learning music production as well, just enrolled on an MMus.

All the best for FAWM!

Welcome to FAWM! Seems we've got a few things in common - I'm also a queer, folky, paganish human. Excited to hear what you come up with!
[avatar]
Ooh, I'm also a folky pagan. Welcome, fawmling! I'm excited to hear your music ✨

@ohdeer
Hello! Welcome to FAWM. Can't wait to hear your stuff. Good luck and don't sweat it. I like your 7 song goal.
[avatar]
Quick bit I noticed: the 'haloquin.net' link above doesn't work -- looks like it has a leading space character.
[avatar]
Hi @haloquin ! Welcome to FAWM! I hope you have a great month!
[avatar]
Thank you for reaching out! Very much still appreciating at this stage affirmations that the lack of visibility of my queerness doesn't invalidate it. <3 Love your goals for the month! Looking forward to hearing your stuff and watching and encouraging your progress.

Welcome! Looking forward to hearing your music.

Hello! Ah, the Welsh Coast eh? Beautiful, and a regular escape for us.
Wishing you the very best for your first FAWM.

@tan482
Welcome! Hope you have a productive and fun FAWM! I have fond memories of having fish and chips on the beach at Aberystwyth when I was in travelling round the uk with my husband in our twenties!
[avatar]
I started out hiding my songwriting, totally get it...hope you will be able to create here and feel amazing....Happy FAWMing!!!
[avatar]
Hi, there! Thanks for the comment, and welcome to FAWM! I like listing my goals in my profile because it helps with accountability and keeping track of everything I want to do (though these days I also make a little spreadsheet 😆).

I hope you have a great time, and I'm looking forward to your songs!
[avatar]
The description of your music sounds interesting!
[avatar]
Definitely. This is my 3rd year. The first 2 were brilliant and I’m sure this year will be no different
[avatar]
Thank you for taking the time to give it a listen. I’ve watchlisted you too. I can’t wait to get started!!

@gm7
