Got my first guitar at age 15, never looked back (but may have left it in the closet for a few years along the way).
6 self-released CDs of various styles of music, with a 7th being released by May, and a collaboration CD with my writing and performing partner @tamsnumber4 later this year.

Play guitar, uke, keyboards, bass, Merlin (ask!), and whatever instruments I can fake things on (mandolin, harmonica, violin). I use Reaper for recording (willing to do collaborations).

Together with @tamsnumber4 I run a monthly songwriter meeting, Songwriters of New Hampshire Group (SONG) where we discuss songwriting and bring songs for suggestions and critiques in a casual songwriter circle format.
I have also started up 'Fairwaves Sound', recording, producing, mixing and mastering songs for songwriters on a budget.

@scubed
Thanks so much for all your comments and congratulations on a very successful FAWM!!

I’ve really enjoyed listening to the new rock opera songs. Are you going to finish it during 50/90?
[avatar]
Hi, Mike. I sure appreciate your comments and support. Glad you liked Low Rung On a Tall Ladder. Since this is FAWM, the song is not set in stone. You may see a revised version later.
[avatar]
@cjk
Congrats to your win +1, too.
[avatar]
@jeff9
Many thanks, Mr. Mike, for checking out Low Rung On a Tall Ladder and the positive vibes. Always a pleasure to take one of Patty's lyrics out for a spin.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on Gun Bless America. Maybe that’s one reason I put my bed in a different location.
[avatar]
@markg
Mike, thanks for your listening and comments throughout the month. FAWM was great as always and I wish I had more time to devote. Looking forward to catching up on listening in the next few weeks
[avatar]
@andrea
Hi Mike, Thanks so much for all your thoughtful comments on my lyrics and collaboration songs. Your support means a lot to me. Time to catch up on the rock opera and your other music :)
[avatar]
Hi Mike, That's interesting. I did think the 'Where are you going, my lovely?' line sounded familiar. I'm not familiar with the Peter Starstead song, but maybe I've heard it at some point (or heard the song title) and it's been buried in my subconscious!
[avatar]
re "Cattle Annie" last year I read a story from an Oklahoma paper about those two and so I stuck it in my idea file
[avatar]
Mike, what a lovely comment on Because It Ends. I don't know about you, but it was SCARY for me to think about singing in public! Eeek! Thankfully, Dominick encouraged me the whole way. Not sure if I'll do that again, but just being able to come up with melody+chords could be a real help in communicating what I'm looking for when presenting lyrics to a musician in the future. So that was really fun. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. And for the support!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Mike. Check with Mama on the brownies.😁
[avatar]
Mike, your comments are always so positive and welcome. Thanks for the thumbs-up on Somewhere In The World, it's Yesterday. It was great working with Marieke. Glad you liked the result.
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Losing Eternity".
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Dancing In My Dreams".
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Take A Picture".
[avatar]
Thanks, Mike, for the comments and suggestions on Dark Angel. I'm really interested in varying my music, and I like your idea about the order of the verses.
[avatar]
@rowanb
Thank you for stopping by and your feedback on ‘The smell of roses’. I’m glad you liked it!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on I hardly shed a tear. I like your title suggestion.
[avatar]
Thanks Mike, 2 lyrics will be it for me I think. You have some solid songs here this FAWM :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for listening and commenting on Ambivalence. Yeah. It's kinda freeing to try something outside my usual box. Still trying . . .
[avatar]
Mike, you're so nice to keep listening to my songs and taking the time to comment. I'm glad you liked Never Fall In Love With A Musician...seeing as how you're quite the musician!
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Listening In".
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my collab song "Back Down" with Cindyrella.
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks for your thoughtful comments on Murderer and Thief. I appreciate it :)
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to I Don't Have to Fix It, and for the info on your open mics! I have followed your Facebook page. 🙂
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thank you, Mike, for checking out "Gabrielle" and your nice comment.
[avatar]
Hi Mike,

Happy to find you here, thanks to you and Donna, I just knew about this magical dimension, giving us all a chance to try something new, explore more

Best of Luck, keep impressing us all
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "That must have been the time". I agree the rhyming needs a bit of strengthening. This was a kinda rough draft. I think it needs another verse/bridge as well.
[avatar]
@pippa
Hi Mike, thanks for listening to "Cattle Annie." Someone posted the girls' photo on FB a few months ago (I think there's a group about unknown powerful women, or such). Steve loves to write lyrics about quirky stories (and also cowboys), so they sparked his imagination. I enjoy working with his lyrics. We have about four or five cowboy songs now.
[avatar]
@kiffa
Mike, thanks for your comment on "Why Do I Love You". Yeah, I guess it would be nice to do something at the open mic that doesn't bring the room down LOL!
[avatar]
Hey there, thanks for the remix offer! I just remixed it myself and replaced the demo, let me know what you think! Also I'm happy to send you the files to see what you do with them--will you let me know what changes you made exactly so I can improve my own mixes?:
[avatar]
Thanks, Mike!
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your listening and leaving a very moving comment on Come in from the rain. Your perception is truly wonderful. I appreciate your tunning in so beautifully. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your compositions.
[avatar]
Thank you for listening to and commenting on 'Rumours' :)
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comment on my "River Fog" sketch. I actually posted it in sketch form, hoping to get it out of my head, but instead spent yesterday earwormed with it, and tinkering with the form. I even woke up this morning thinking about the longer-form version!
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Swept Away".
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my collab song with crisp1 "All the Time in the World".
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Lost Soulmate".
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Mike. With my hillbilly accent, I would probably make a Burt Bacharach song sound country.

[avatar]
Appreciate your question on my tune Earl of Albion. It’s actually a drink my brother and sister-in-law made up. Just liked the name.
[avatar]
@andrea
Don't they always get caught -lol Then they rally and overcome. I will have to wait and see what happens!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Hey, thanks, Mike. Had to see if there was a vestige of rocker left in me with all the country I'm doing in my golden years. It was fun!
[avatar]
@sml
Thanks for the listen on Sidewalk Castaway, no its not based on anyone I know, I just always wanted to write a song about a busker.
[avatar]
Hi Mike, thanks for the comment on Frog and Monkey. I’m curious, where is your monthly songwriting meetup?
[avatar]
Hi, Mike...It was a goal of mine to be able to work with @carleybaer, and I'm so glad this collab happened, and that you liked it. Thanks for listening!
[avatar]
I managed to wring one set of lyrics out of @geoff61. I feel very privileged
[avatar]
@oswlek
Thanks for stopping by and checking out "Mist", Mike. What's funny is that the original lyric was even shorter! I tacked on the return to V1 because I thought the song had more to say. 🙂
[avatar]
@wistah
Thank you for listening Mike!
[avatar]
WooHoo! Thanks for tipping me off to this annual challenge, Mike.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to Phosphorus and commenting, and thanks for making the prompt!
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks for your comments on my collaboration with @carroll I appreciate it :)
[avatar]
Glad you liked my Addiction song. I disagree with you about the last verse. The division of society into to opposing camps, that the oligarchs have pulled off so successfully, via the media they own, over the last few years, with one side willing to use their readily available weapons to defend their POV is the worst addiction of all, IMHO.
[avatar]
Indeed, thanks for stopping by to read it! Hugs.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments on no comment! Looking fwd to exploring your music!
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Relentless Olive".
[avatar]
Thanks for stopping by to share your time with "Average Joe".
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to the first draft of "He's Hot For Her!" I was actually revising it when you left me that comment. No pressure to revisit, but I filled in the story a bit. ;)
[avatar]
Hi Mike
Thanks for your supportive message on, Obviously Orpheus. I'm looking for Collaborations, if that appeals to you.
I normally write to a cadence in my mind (although I have experimented more recently). However, people will always find different word rhythms when putting lyrics to music and I find this fascinating.
[avatar]
@sollis
Thanks for taking a listen to my track, Mike! You're probably right about the nightmare that bouncing audio back in the day entailed, but allow me to bask in the rose-tinted nostalgia of a time I never got to experience!

I'll have to crank up the lofi-ness next time: I dialed in some flutter and noise but clearly not enough!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Mike. You are such a gent.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment and suggestion. I did changed but without the longer.
[avatar]
Hey, Thanks for your thoughts on my song: "Ode to a Groundhog". I listened to all your stuff. I like it all. Very diverse. "Copper Mountain" great ballad style Historical? Rock Opera sounds like fun.
[avatar]
Hi Mike. Thanks for checking in on the Bord song. The vocal effects are a bit of doubling flange along with a special FX from Izotope's Nectar Elements. But it's version 1 nectar, and no longer available. I can't even find the serial number to crack my own copy. So after a laptop wipe and reload, I only have a few more days left in the trial to use my vst. :P
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Choose".
[avatar]
@kiffa
Thanks for the comment on "Easter Sunday", Mike, it's much appreciated.
[avatar]
HEy Mike! Thanks so much for the listen ind comment and the ZONG bust!! most appreciated!!
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "His Sun".
[avatar]
@doug52
Hello, Mike. Thank you for chiming in on my song. Always appreciated. :)
[avatar]
@scubed
Thanks very much for the comment on “Sky Spirit”!
[avatar]
@kiffa
Thanks for confirming that date. Hope to see you on the 16th!
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comment on Peckerhead. I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback.
[avatar]
@kiffa
Good to see you too, Mike. You said that the next Lakeside open mic is on the 18th-- let me just double-check on that, as I had assumed that it would be on the 16th (same day of the week). If it is indeed the 18th, I might have a conflict, as that's my brother's birthday (it's just as possible that we'll celebrate his b-day on another day and I'll be free-- but I just want to make sure I have the right date).
[avatar]
Glad you liked my Super Hero song and I am quite the iconoclast. I have no problem mixing the Marvel and DC Universes.
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks for the listens and kind words on "Rannoch Moor", "Closing Time Is Closing In" and "Pack Up and Leave", Mike. Means a lot.
[avatar]
Hi, Mike, you mentioned my Liner notes were missing on If This is Love... My brain must be missing, too. I don't remember what was there, so I can't reconstruct them. But thanks for noticing.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your feedback! Looking forward to more Rock Opera!!!
[avatar]
@atam94
thanks for checking out my skirmish song! It was fun to do something quickly, and I would have given the vocals another take or two, but... it's pretty early here and didn't want to disturb neighbors too much 😂
[avatar]
Glad you liked my brain scan. I am fairly certain some of those long words are making their first appearance in a song 😋
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind words Mike! It's good to see you back :)
[avatar]
@aeye
Surround sound mixing I messed with once or twice but never quite got the hang of it. That would be a cool mixing technique to have in the old bag of tricks though. :)
[avatar]
@aeye
That's actually awesome to hear. That might get me to release another one over there then. Thanks for the info!
[avatar]
Hi Mike, thanks for the welcome! Where do you and @tamsnumber4 do your SONG meetings? I'm suspecting probably southeast NH, but definitely curious (we're north of Keene, so kind of out of the way for pretty much everything).
[avatar]
Hi, Mike! Thanks for your nice comments on If This Is Love, I Don't Like It. Gwyn Jones just sent me his music & vocals, if you'd like to hear the song.
[avatar]
Yes I do. Haha
[avatar]
@beacon
My 8 string Baritone has two strings per course in DGBE. The DG strings are in octaves and the BE strings are in unison. It's a nice full sound.
[avatar]
yeah. we talked about allston. i lived on glenville,,one block from comm ave and 1/2 a block up from harvard. i worked for bernsteins furniture.
[avatar]
Thanks for the tip about hashtagging. Hopefully it sinks in quick and I remember to do it for my 2nd song.
[avatar]
@markg
That was a quick listen to my first song! Thanks. You're on my watchlist, of course.
[avatar]
I was actually, yes, considering trying to organize another summer FAWMSTOCK.
[avatar]
Thanks for the welcome, @mikeb! I look forward to hearing what you make!
[avatar]
Have a great FAWM, I am deep into my second book now so won't be participating (probably) but I will check in and see what is going on from time to time. Geoff :-)

Happy fawning to you!
[avatar]
Wow, Mike - thanks for your detailed myth busting. I have a feeling this won’t be the last Mic I buy. maybe not even the last one this year, so I may try another condenser for the next one.
[avatar]
Thanks for the welcome!
