Morricone’s granddaughter indeed, Nadine. Why didn’t I think of that with my comment? Good catch!
[avatar]
@gb9
Thank you for letting me know the page I saved wouldn't have the track downloaded. I really loved the 'Blackout Blues' music so I'll keep a watch on your bandcamp page!
Thank you for your kind comments and thoughts on 'Blues Away', 'Intoxicated' and 'Can Be, Could Be'

@kosch
Hi @nadine - thanks for listening and the kind words on "Who Holds These Chains" #DarkMirror" - I love metal and hard rock, and am hoping as I get a better handle on Logic, maybe I can dive in a little deeper 🎵
[avatar]
Oh really, that was all classical? Excellent job on amps and effects then! Sounds awesome.
[avatar]
I got the message you sent. I had forgotten I sent it via Yahoo - that's an address that I don't use that often.

Glad you are happy with the lyrics. The variations in the scansion is deliberate and is a common resource in blues songs.

I will send you the isolated vocal ASAP.

I have a had a fever for the last three days and today the doctor confirmed that after three long years of avoiding it, I have COVID. So far it's only like a really heavy flu, but it is leaving me drained of energy and weak in the limbs.

Hi Nadine! Thanks for all of the kind words, I always enjoying your comments. I have been away from FAWM for a little bit just trying to catch up on life but and coming back now for more listening and commenting. Looks like you have a guitar for the blues song but I’d be willing to take a look at the chart for ‘Stir Fry’ if you’d like. That was one of the most memorable and fun songs that I heard in my abbreviated time at 50/90. 😉🎶
[avatar]
Hi Nadine. Thanks so much for your kind comments on "Moments of Love" and "29." I especially appreciate that the abnormal structure of "29" didn't bother you. I enjoy departing from norms now and then.
[avatar]
A meaningful message to sing! Thank you, Nadine!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine,

I got a message from We Transfer saying you had sent me some files. But it appears you sent me back the files I sent to you.

Did you download it and listen? Is this sending it back a subtle (but total) rejection? If you sent me an email outlining your response to the version I sent you, it never arrived.
[avatar]
Thanks Nadine! Sounds like you have a lot going on! That's great! Good luck with everything!!
[avatar]
I find it so interesting that good writers can write effectively on topics that they may not even be into! I did some writing this year and I found it rewarding but also quite a different process and part of my brain.
[avatar]
Nadine, I'd like to work with you on a song sometime, maybe at 50/90, if you are interested? I think you are most familiar with my Americana/country songs but I have some that are more rock like Burn The Ground (https://open.spotify.com/track/6iQkwnmLYSfZSeCHYhTJn0?si=aa54234ab4344abe) and Taking Me Down (https://youtu.be/UmScGWHklyU). One of my goals this year is to formally release some new songs and re-release some of my back catalog with higher production values. In the past I've not put too much effort into production and I know there is a lot that can be done there!
[avatar]
Hey there thank you so much for the message you left! I do all of the vocals both screaming and song I also play all the instrumentation and do all of the recording! I really appreciated what you said about my song, and I will definitely be listening to your music and giving you some positive feedback :) thank you very much for your input!

And yes, a powerful blegh goes a long way haha!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine. Thanks for your review of my talking Blues song. You mention you don't know the talking blues form. Listen to woddy Gurthie's Talking Dustbowl Blues and (my favorite) Bob Dylan's Motorpsycho Nightmare. Funny man Mr Dylan!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for the comments on my songs! I don’t often sing in falsetto, so “Reckoning” is a bit outside my comfort zone tbh, but I’m happy with how it turned out!
[avatar]
Hi @nadine - It is shocking that all the horror is just becoming known about by us settlers now. Here's a song and video I plan to release soon. It doesn't 'fix' anything, but if it helps anyone understand and then do something, it will be worthwhile.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nqzq48ohvsjxeyx/A%20Selfish%20Pain%20-%20Final%20Version.mov?dl=0
All the best.
[avatar]
@mk2021
Thank you for listening and commenting on 'Drift' . It surprised me a little, too. I don't rate myself as a blues player.
[avatar]
Nadine, in the absence of real guitars, you might try a synth patch that would have more dynamics than a sampled guitar. Not the same at all, but can be close. A couple of people commented on the synth guitar sound in this track. https://write.fawm.org/songs/16067
[avatar]
Thank you. That intro was made with two zithers I have that I wanted to put to good use. The idea is that they indicate you're entering a dream; and that dream is a recap of the other 13 songs which covers the range of soul, gospel, rock, metal which were elements used throughout the "album".
[avatar]
Hi @nadine - I'm thankful that my song Genocide is spreading knowledge of Canada's horrific history. To be fair, the extent and details of what went on have only recently been coming out into the open. Indigenous peoples knew this history, of course, but the Canadian government and settlers pretended it never happened.
Here's a Wiki page about the residential school system where indigenous children where beaten and starved in a concerted way to destroy the indigenous culture and languages. The Canadian government has only recently admitted that this was an attempted genocide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Indian_residential_school_system
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out Wear Bright Gear. The video was made using the original PSA and manipulating it in LumaFusion for iPad. Glad you enjoyed it.
[avatar]
I appreciate that you like "Once A Piano." It's now a favorite of mine. :)
[avatar]
Nadine, thank you for your kind words on For Sundown! That means a lot to me, especially coming from such a fine songwriter/producer like you!
[avatar]
Gotta log those hours if you wanna get paid 😉
[avatar]
I appreciate your support! Thank you.
[avatar]
Hi Nadine,

Based on the lyrics I have written, I suggest a change in the structure:
Intro - Instrumental Verse (First Solo - full band) - Verse 1 - Verse 2 - Second Solo (Piano?) - Verse 3 - Third Solo (Guitar) - Verse 4 - Repeat Vs 1.

I am still a bit stumped about the slow intro section, but I think a strong opening rocking instrumental verse would work better than starting with Verse One (your verse doctored). This is a Common Blues Opening that we use in our band a lot. It also allows the vocals to start a couple of beats before the verse.

There is not usually a "CHORUS" in a Blues Song but a return to Verse One to end it is a standard resource too.

I have four verses written. I will try and do a quick demo recording tomorrow and send it to you for your criticism or approval.

Una abraçada

@wacha
I was wondering how much work needed to be done on "Glimpse", that's a mighty fine demo.

I'm feeling pretty good, my voice still isn't 100% but luckily I have plenty of mixing to keep me busy for the time being. Thanks for asking! How are you doing?
[avatar]
Tell me about it! My OCD had me spending 3-8 hours on each song. With everything involved I'd say I spent 100 hours on my 14...
[avatar]
@seppo
And if there is something else needing a random bass line, just ask.
Been bit busy and didn't have time to listen all yet, but I will for sure.
[avatar]
@seppo
Yes, whatever suits you. I just play when I get something to play with ;)
[avatar]
@hmorg
Thanks for all the kind comments! Regarding "Congregation of the Sick", you did notice the youtube link for the Christmas version, right? Unfortunately it's all in Finnish but I can provide a translation. The gist of it is that it plays on the fact that "(Christmas) tree"/"spruce" and "six" are both "kuusi" in Finnish. Aside from that, it's surprisingly wholesome for a death metal song. :)
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind comments on my tracks. I checked out Overjoyed and would be happy to look at adding brass. I can record trombone or do virtual. Let me know what you are thinking.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your long response to my comments. I am also more confident (and excited) when it comes to arranging and composing and have often used software instruments before I try to get a performance down. And sometimes I just keep the guiding track in the end. But wow, mixing and arranging 30-50 tracks is super impressive! I thought I was going wild approaching 20 😂 Awesome!
[avatar]
@nadine, much obliged for your encouraging notes on New Relationship Energy and The World's on Fire. That @dasbinky is an amazing collaborator. I look forward to exploring your gems!
[avatar]
@cts
Sure thing! For some reason I thought I had you on my watch list. Well, you're on it now! 😀 Your music is absolutely amazing! From production to guitar to MIDI to vocals...your style, your vibe. Definitely mad-cool!
[avatar]
I had a great FAWM. It’s felt like a good mix of skirmishing and collaborating and listening. I’m out in California this week and passed by a Chuck E Cheese yesterday and thought of you.
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind comment on Change Your Life - love how that collab turned out. And thanks for checking out "Palette" I enjoyed that write, hope to find music for it someday.
[avatar]
Yes. Paradise for small children and one of the in er circles of purgatory for their parents. Thank you for all your incredible listening. Sounds like you might have found that spot where FAWM was fun without being overwhelming.
[avatar]
Oh gosh, nothing rude about it at all! It also gives me something to work on improving for next time. I find it hard to find motivation to learn new instruments these days without actually playing them for something. So being able to put this out there and see that others are hearing it the same way I am gives me something to focus on for next time I make the mistake of picking up the viola 😅

Sad part is, I don't think I can play the harmonica any better than this haha. I haven't tried in over a decade, but I was very bad at it last time I tried. So maybe that's a new trick... simply play the violin every time I want a song with harmonica!
[avatar]
> Is there any instrument you can't play perfect?

Well, seeing as my violin playing (err, I mean "Sean's" "viola" playing...) on Without Common Language sounded more like a harmonica, I'm going to go with the violin. And it wasn't just you! At least four other people have thought it was a harmonica, including myself haha.
[avatar]
Thanks Nadine! I can churn out a basic metal production pretty quickly because I've done it many many times and I already know what to avoid while recording. So mixing really isn't that big of a deal after careful (well, as careful as possible within FAWM schedule) tracking and preparations. Drums are always the pain in the butt, of course!
[avatar]
@scubed
Thanks so much for commenting on my songs! And yes, snow and tumbleweeds do coexist in New Mexico’s high desert country.
[avatar]
So if I understand "No Time For The Blues" doesn't #need_guitar anymore and harmonica and vocals will be added in the future ?
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your kind comments on my songs, @nadine - I've had so much fun and creativity with FAWM that I know I'll be back next year for sure.
[avatar]
So glad you liked my Queen Beaver track. But I think she is more suited to the raunchy double entendre bluesy thing she has done up to now. I should have found a genuine female vocal for that song, since it would have far more power coming from a female vocalist.

PS Made a slow start on the lyrics for our blues track. Will do further work on it tomorrow. How many instrumental breaks (solos) do you want? I need to know how many vocal verses we need.
[avatar]
I've gotten such a kick (and so much inspiration) out of following through FAWM. Thank you for all the encouragement you've so generously offered during my first month plus -- and for the recent comments on "I Remember Dying" and "It Don’t Land Easy" -- especially the latter. You made me realize I'd accidentally changed a lyric and now I've changed it back to the line you liked (which I also preferred to my accidental change, as well).
[avatar]
Just keep checking the bandcamp site. It will go up eventually as a free download.
the address is:
eyewilleatu.bandcamp.com
[avatar]
Thanks for the comps! Yeah Antenna will go up on Bandcamp. I don't kmow if that's considered a "release" haha but it is what it is for now.
[avatar]
Thank you again, Nadine, for your beautiful comments and support. I hope we can convert you into liking musical. By the way, in musical theatre there is rock, pop, punk and many more genres, it doesn't have to be only theatre songs. I love this genre and other genres too. I really enjoyed my collaborations on FAWM and it was absolutely amazing to collaborate with Kristi and Chris. I hold very dear my collaboration with you and @caitlin. I hope we can continue working on our song for the monts to come.
[avatar]
@andrea
Hi Nadine. Thanks for all your comments on my lyrics and collaborations. I always enjoy reading your thoughts. The AI stuff is a combination of good and bad. It's a little scary to think how good it is.
[avatar]
Thank you for all of your wonderful comments! I am starting to dig through your monumental accomplishment. This year was a weird one for me. You have really done some wonderful work and contour to grow as a composer.
[avatar]
Cheers for the comments! Especially "bleerrrrgh" warmed my heart immensely!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine, thank you so much for your amazing comments and support. It was amazing to collaborate with Conor and I'm happy you like this composition as much as I do. Thank you for the Rain piece. I had fun participating in nursery rhyme challenge. I hope you are enjoying a wonderful start of Spring.
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind words on the song "Her Voice in The Machine" :)
[avatar]
The event is being recorded but only available for paying members of that venue to have access to re-watch. It isn't being held through my own business. Would you like to be on my mailing list for future things?
[avatar]
yeah so with the vocal fx it sounded like there was an added ping pong delay on that first "eyes on the skies" but listening back now it may be on all the vocals and it just happens to pop out the most there. And it sounded to my ears like the soft vocals had a touch more reverb and the vocals that are more belted had them cut back. and then also yeah that phaser section too was a nice addition
[avatar]
Oh no kidding - well you did a great job. I have participated in challenges where you get 10 words, and have to use 5 . I will look up words and get definitions sometimes just to really think about what they mean how how I might be able to associate them. I also think having to work them in limits me in a good way - and often takes me down a road I might not have gone down. Have you written to a picture yet? It was new to me a few years ago and I really like it if the picture speaks to me - so to speak!
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments on "Cherry Pie"! I'll post a link to the recipe in the song's liner notes later today when I find a good spot to serve it from.
[avatar]
@b3nut
Thank you Nadine for the listens and kind comments on Instrument Of Control and Hittin' The Road! With HTR I wanted to end FAWM on a rockin' note, was really happy to actually hit the goal plus! So much fun!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Bless you, Nadine, for such kind comments about "Like God Does". I never asked @nancycunning exactly what the lyric was about, but for me, it was about the ache of parents dealing with a wayward child--possibly one caught up into drug addiction. If there's more sadness and poignancy in the music than she intended, it's on me.
[avatar]
Thank you for listening Nadine! I appreciate it. I like your todo list. goodgoing :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for all your kind feedback. Incase you are interested, I'm a guest speaker at a free one hour Zoom event, analyzing singers. Would love to see you there. https://community.100daysofsongwriting.com/events/analyzing-singers-you-admire-how-do-they-get-that-sound
[avatar]
Without checking exactly i would think we have done about 25 collaboration the first in Feb 18 called “the secret of my success”
[avatar]
@amelea
Haha thanks! Nasty and sexy, ultimate goal 😄 Oooh dark blue eyes! Sounds pretty close to indigo to me 👀
[avatar]
Hi, on be your ghost I wrote the instrumental part and the melody together so there was no chicken and egg! Thanks for listening
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words on “Moments Of Love” - @paulharrison’s song, to which I made some small instrumental additions. I’m very grateful to him for generously allowing me to do so. :-)
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your comments on my songs, Nadine! I do appreciate knowing what you liked. Dusseldorf, eh? I've never been but my late Mom (maiden name Burgdorf) mentioned it;, related to her occasional return trips to see relatives in Germany, I believe. Her parents lived near Berlin before they came to the U.S. in the early 1900s. Anyway, congrats on your FAWM songs!
[avatar]
Hiya. Happy for you to credit (or not) as you see fit. Might be worth checking with Andy too, as I took half my song from him.
[avatar]
@arkka
Being angry and frustrated is great when it comes to vocals!
[avatar]
Thanks for the name check! 👍
[avatar]
Indeed it did 😀 I'll have a think and get back to you tomorrow. I'm just back from the gym so my brain is mush 😂
[avatar]
Pretty good :) Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions! I hope you had a nice FAWM, too!!
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. 🙏
Yes, the vocals are all synthesised (Yamaha Vocaloid). I'm not a fan of the auto-tune sound ... but they usually need more time polishing to mask, which FAWM doesn't lend itself too! It's still better than my singing, unfortunately 🙂
[avatar]
Aw, thanks for the shoutout on the review forum thread 🙌
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments! I want to catch up on your stuff, but I do a lot of listening at work and they block Soundcloud! More listening when I get some evenings at home. Congrats on passing 14!
[avatar]
Hi, Nadine, loved your comment on Never Fall In Love With A Musician. I was amused by your comment on the different " romantic qualities" of the guitarists, vocalists/bassists and drummers! I'm envious of you for being such a DAW Master! I'm just learning and everything is new and confusing. But I'm getting some good help and advice!
[avatar]
I do like singing a variety of genres, blues included. My Achilles Heel is the instrumental part. I can post songs where I can find a suitable instrumental track, or I can post what I can play. on my own. I found a few tracks this year with @monty and royalty free on YouTube. They were really a good experience. If you have some bluesy songs, I would gladly give them a try. I am open to try singing any type of genre. I love listening to your tracks.
[avatar]
Thank you very much for your listens and comments! You will know when the album comes. I'll be shouting out about it since I'm proud as heck.
[avatar]
@clioem
Thank you Nadine!
[avatar]
@tezzin
Thanks for your comments on "Puppeteer". No alternate tuning on the chorus; I think the "deeper" guitar and bass sound comes from a combination of (1) switching from the almost-clean, slightly overdriven tone in the verses to the much crunchier distorted tube amp tone in the chorus, (2) the low, chuggy power chord voicing in the chorus, and (3) there's a synth doubling the root throughout the chorus. At least that's my take on it.
[avatar]
Oh... and at this point it should be obvious, but I didn't get very far on that blues. things went a bit differently than expected in the last week and I had to juggle things around a bit to get the win. If you don't mind I'll stick it and my partial lyrics into a 50/90 folder.
[avatar]
@clioem
Thanks so much for the comment!
[avatar]
Hey Nadine, yes on SoundCloud I go by DocK. I don't remember if I used the same name for a previous FAWM but it's possible.
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your comment on „Star Clouds“ <3 Yes! When I listen to the song myself I feel like walking into a dark club and everything is sound and you feel the bass in your bones. And yes, I did sidechained compression :) dug deep into the box of mixing tricks.

I’ll be happy to listen to your last few songs tomorrow, looking forward to it!
[avatar]
Hey, I hadn't quite won last night. I had some private placeholders in there that were not going to get released, but NOW I'm done... and

Feels good.

I thought you went into this saying you were going to take it easy, like a junkie with 'just one hit', right? 😜
[avatar]
Hi @nadine - thanks for you lovely words on I choose the grey. For a skirmish I liked this one and think I'll pick it up and work on it over the next few months. Find a better singer too!! :-).
Congrats on getting over the finish line. I mush come back and take a listen to everything, I've been trying the Random Song button a lot, it's a good way to find some smashing tunes.
Will pop an email in the post shortly... Jason
[avatar]
That is awesome news about Right Side of the Road. Its a great song and I am glad to hear that you are going to develop it! My short answer is no credit is necessary for me. Email me if you want to chat further or need that in writing.
[avatar]
I was thinking Lyricist AND vocalist for that Bluesy number.
[avatar]
@tiias
Oh, now that I re-checked your track info I noticed the need for a double bass - I'm very sorry, I only have a single bass. And a a reply to your earlier question - I grew up listening to grunge, folk and indie/pop. I am quite omnivore towards music genres as a singer, but lack the knowledge (interest and) practice of a classical singer. So almost anything goes!
[avatar]
@hmorg
Thanks for the comment on "Phantom Bone"! I've been increasingly happy with how my vocals are turning out this year, which is nice because we're heading to studio with one of my bands on Wednesday (yes, the one with @emplate in it) and I feel like my throat's in tune, so to speak.
[avatar]
@kosch
Re: "No time for blues"
Absolutely (I was just having fun playing along 🎵 - C is a great key for blues..) Just let me know if/when.
[avatar]
Ah I bet you there are actually a few real bands that have unwittingly appeared in the Fake Band Name section 😁
[avatar]
@cts
Straight up - the company sent me and @richaaaay 4 bags of chips. They are freakin' good!! I'm just getting back into town, but I'll be spending a bit of the day listening/commenting. Congrats on the FAWM win. I'll be back today.
[avatar]
Just did, but I had to come back to cyber-steal your red heart from "Carry Me Home".
[avatar]
Thanks a lot! I’m doing well, as you know ;) and my ears are too, though I have to be careful. I still want to do two more songs :)
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out "Friend in Fire" and "Be Your Ghost" - I need to get better at instrumentation so I can flesh some of these out, but I was really feeling the acapella on "friend" so it worked out! I have no idea the time signature - embarrassingly the technical points of music are not my strongest suit! My click track was 4/4 but I was definitely doing my own thing. For "ghost" @rshakesp is working out some music for a collab so stay tuned!
[avatar]
Thanks for the link to your work with genres. I am grateful for the info and appreciate another's experience. You did a wonderful job documenting your progress.
[avatar]
@jamkar
Thank you for the kind comments on our video collab. @ampersandman did all the guitar effects.
[avatar]
@slusk
Uploaded the 4-track. Was it too early?
[avatar]
Haha! Ok, allow me to rephrase that. Is there anything *that you set your mind to* that you can’t do?! :)
[avatar]
Thanks so much, Nadine! Rock on!
[avatar]
Nadine, your comments always make me feel so good inside. It means so much to me to read your compliments and thoughtful feedback. I can't stop smiling!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Maybe you can do some of both at once, sort of like artists like this: https://youtu.be/bWWzcgsutdk
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks Nadine, for the comments on Nothing Burns Like the Blues.
[avatar]
I hope this doesn’t sound creepy, but to have your ears 👂 ❤️
You have a gift!!
Yes, I was straining and I want to save my voice for our metal collab!! I’ll email you the double meaning. @mctown wrote some fine fine lyrics 🎶
[avatar]
It's all good. I might have some lyrics together later tonight but regardless, this was the deal we made!
[avatar]
I always appreciate constructive feedback on "I Can't Change You", thank you. Yeah, everything you said is true, due mostly to lack of time and overwrought ears at this late stage in February. I'm hoping to collaborate with Steve more on it and polish it up because I agree it's got some really good bones.
[avatar]
No idea why Japanese indie rock would be a guilty pleasure, but kare pan definitely got it going on! Thanks for listening 😄
[avatar]
You're in luck, I'm normally in Drop D.
[avatar]
No worries at all, although I will definitely needs tabs. I'm a self-taught reprobate in that respect.
[avatar]
thanks nadine, glad you were blasted by revelations in our bluegrass collab :)
i loved the song too
[avatar]
thanks for your comment on my song Nadine. I'm starting to think that maybe this latest one should be the final track! hmm
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "The Actor"! I liked working with the groovy track @ohleeoh crafted - I hadn't yet done that type of music.
[avatar]
@tezzin
Hey, thanks for your kind words on "Roam"!
[avatar]
Thank you for the comment on "Filth Spawn"! Yup, I intentionally wanted to keep the lyrics quite open, as that's the way I like to write them. But yeah, it's mainly about raging against racists and those who value profit over people. And thank you for the compliment on the vocals!

And yes, record stores ❤ We still have a few left, but unfortunately this one that is my favourite, is closing its doors in coming months. I guess reality is you can't hold on your own with such a marginal music as extreme metal in the city size of Helsinki, but it's still sad...
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "When You're Famous" -- I live in fear of ever being quoted in an interview. No fame for me! ;)
[avatar]
@savoy
Thanks for checking out ‘ooo la la’, Nadine! That’s one I’m excited to produce more post-FAWM
[avatar]
Nadine! Thank our for always offering kind works of encouragement and thoughtful comments. It is always a pleasure to have you listen and enjoy. 😃
[avatar]
Hi, Nadine
I'm glad you enjoyed Memory Glands.
I'm wondering if you might be interested in doing instrumentation for another lyric I wrote called 'Can't Whisper'. @chrismyth02 said he would be on board to do vocals if I can recruit someone to do the music. I thought the collaboration you did with him was phenomenal on Glimpse and had something in mind similar to that in the sound and vocal dept for Can't Whisper. I'll provide a link to the lyric below, but if this doesn't interest you, no worries at all.

Yeah, I'm all for grit and edge! Those are my middle names actually! There was just something about the tone that stuck out for me from the rest of the production.
[avatar]
Hey! Thank you so much for all your support, encouragement and kind words like recently on the Wuppertal-lyrics... Really, do you know all these places? I spent almost 30 years there, grew up, went to school, and my parents still keep living in Wuppertal... and actually, this summer I plan to go to see them there again after not having been in Wuppertal for many years... It is strange, when my life was centered in Wuppertal I didn't like that city at all, but now from a distance you see things with different eyes and I discover a certain charm and beauty even in things I used to hate... Once again, thanks so much for all, I really appreciate it a lot...
[avatar]
Thank you so much for the comment on "Worms Crawl on the Skeletons of the Dead Tyrants", your compliments are much appreciated! It was an honour to work with @sapient and I had loads of great time doing this!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Nadine! Glad you enjoyed our little ditty, Five String Blues. Big points to John for crafting the story.
[avatar]
Thanks for recommending our little bossa tune. I really enjoyed making that one.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening and commenting on “Dank Swank” - really enjoyed collaborating with @andrea again. :-)
[avatar]
You are very welcome, Nadine. Thank you for your support.
[avatar]
You are doing a great job, Nadine. Very meaningful songs.
[avatar]
@jeff9
Hi, Nadine. I don't know how you manage to do all the listening you evidently do, but thank you so much for checking out my country stuff--The Badder the Better and Sounds Like a Song To Me. You always manage to make my day with your kind words. Sorry I'm a little late responding, but I tool a few days off from FAWM to do some serious (and joyful) grand-parenting. Back on the job today, though and looking forward to hearing your latest.
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks for your very kind comments on Lake Willoughby. I appreciate it :)
[avatar]
Thank you for not camping. 😁and a nice words about it. Happy fawming.
[avatar]
@seppo
Thanks Nadine. I actually got some vocal and lyrical ideas there, silly as usual and I agree that it needs intro too.
Let's see if I can transfer my ideas to paper and continue this later on.
[avatar]
@hmorg
Thanks for the comment on "Arrival of Unholy Force"! I've been pretty happy with how my harsh vocals have turned out this time (and the way I've learned to mix them quickly).
[avatar]
Thank you for checking out Waste Away! I don't often do the instrumentation these days but wanted to try at least one this FAWM! Glad you liked it. I listened to your morph by accident early on so I was trying to not reference it 😆 but it's so cool seeing how these songs have changed.
[avatar]
@kosch
Yes - definitely update during FAWM - I had a local artist song swap this afternoon that, preparing for, took me away from FAWM for the last few days. It's in the rear view now 😄
[avatar]
Thank you!! Yes it’s the irony with the muses isn’t it? Always doing what they want. Glad you enjoyed it! Didn’t know how loud I should mix the bass. Didn’t want it to be „in your face“ - „look I play bass“ :D but I’ll turn its volume up!
[avatar]
@sph
Ja, ist ok
[avatar]
@amelea
Ahh, wow, cool to hear that's your favorite of mine this year! Yeah always feel free to email me if your mojo is up and running ha. Cheers
[avatar]
Thank you, I had some atmospheric electronic music in mind so maybe it will come to live soon!
[avatar]
<3 have written my own now on a train ride, but thanks to your inspiration!!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on #11 !

Well, I felt like doing something quick, I'm kind of burnt out by the challenge right now
[avatar]
You can take it easy, there’s still time. And even if you don’t even do another thing, you still have created all these great new tunes, 5 that you plan to make full productions!
[avatar]
Thank you, Nadine :)
[avatar]
Hey the mid-FAWM lull is no joke. Gotta take care of your ears especially! I'm the worst at that usually but this year I'm too busy to break my ears so I guess I should be grateful! haha. I'm really digging your mini-band collab model for your songs! Tbh I've always wanted to try a heavy rock-metal track but I don't have the skills to pull that off on my own. I can play really nice chunky rhythm electric though and I think I could do a heavy vocal track if had all my vocal power back. (lost my voice last year from Covid, still on the mend) All that to say, I wish we could collab but maybe it'll have to be next year when I've got my electric guitars and more voice! Keep it up, your stuff is great.
[avatar]
Mate, the second I saw that song prompt I HAD to use it. Also, you're spot on about the vocal options I'm considering.
[avatar]
@oswlek
Thanks for your comments and continued support, Nadine. It is greatly appreciated.
[avatar]
@jamkar
Thank you! The zither was a vst drop in from Keyscapes, which is now my go to keyboard program.
[avatar]
Thanks and for Holey Moley that really happened to me. :)
[avatar]
You are very welcome, Nadine. Thank you for all your support and good luck with your projects. I love your music and I find your collaborations very special.
[avatar]
You must be using the wrong software 😉
[avatar]
Hey Nadine! Just wondering if you want any more help with Princess? I'd love to help out! I could do lead guitar, or backing vocals, or rework the drums. My kit is electric, powering EZD3. I tend to play what I want, tweak it in the DAW then bounce the tracks to audio for proper processing.
Let me know if any of this might be useful 😁
[avatar]
Thanks! In that one it was literally just having a lot fewer tracks in the arrangement 😂. I was sort of inspired by this Paul Simon song called You’re Kind. It’s mainly drums/bass/guitar/vocal and it sounds super full and super spacious at the same time. Been listening to that album (Still Crazy After All These Years) a lot recently, it’s amazing.
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my collab song with crisp1 "All the Time in the World".
[avatar]
Oh my no, my day job has ramped up and my weekends in Feb have been busy so I’m just happy to try some new challenges and have a few great collabs. If 14 happens great but if not I’m just having fun being a part of FAWM
[avatar]
Hi Nadine. No tabs needed (if you trust me to come up with a suitable bass line). But maybe a cheat sheet for the chords? That saves me a little time working things out at this end. 😄
[avatar]
Thanks so much for the comment on "Devils on the Trampolines of Hell" -- I'm glad that title intrigued you.
[avatar]
@sph
... und eine Nebelmaschine, um jegliche Burgen im Rheintal in die passende Atmosphäre zu zaubern
[avatar]
@hmorg
Thanks for the comment on "Celestial Slime"! It certainly was cool to get a collab under my belt that early and with the more extreme styles of metal I know I can count on @emplate to deliver.
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind words on Final Friday - it was fun singing a fast paced punk tune. Was surprised and delighted with where Jason took it musical.
[avatar]
@sph
Thank you - my ghost and me: don't know if it's a friendly one but we get along...
[avatar]
Thank you for your comment, Nadine - I always look forward to my first 'I enjoyed this once I looked up all the words' comment. It came a little later this year than usual; I think the Plain English Movement is making me soft.
[avatar]
Yeah, no stress :)
[avatar]
@jeff9
My dear Nadine, thank you so much for such kind words about Line In the Water and especially what you wrote about Androgena V. I was really going out on a limb on that one and wasn't at all sure whether it even remotely would work. Maybe I'll try another one like that somewhere along the line. I truly appreciate the encouragement!
[avatar]
Yeah, sure, that should be interesting :) You can contact me at emplate (at) gmail dot com
[avatar]
OMG, yes! @tfish77 and I have said that it feels like having a superpower. For the longest time I _wanted_ to write songs but anything I thought was good I felt like I had to protect it and not mess it up. Now, it feels like things come a lot easier which means I can get into the process of writing and trust what will come out of it even if we take risks.

Our current issue is that we have a lot of forward momentum so we keep starting new things and then neglecting to circle back to things from a year ago that are 90% there. At this point, we have decided that we are just going to go for a bit longer and see what we produce and then pick tracks from that pile to make an album from... Odd spot to be in. Last year I thought "well, if we can get like 4 songs that are decent maybe we can put out an EP..."
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind comment on Working On An Arctic Night!
[avatar]
@chroes
*sigh* Wish I had the weekend. But we have scheduled a long D&D session for Saturday, and I am the DM. Have to do quite a bit of preparation, and of course I can't join in on Saturday. Maybe Sunday if things go well...
[avatar]
Cheers for the comment on "Mountains That Deny the Sun"! It was a collab I needed, too 😀
[avatar]
@chroes
Hey there, thank you for asking. Somehow, FAWM has lost me a little bit. I'm trying to find a way back in, trying to motivate me again, trying to make time. I would like to participate in a skirmish, but the ones that took place over the past week didn't sit well with my calendar somehow. I hope I can get back into the groove later this week, but I might end up not "winning" FAWM 2023... Well. I can at least give it my best shot for the remaining days, right?
[avatar]
Thx for the mixing notes on Dawn Again. I like to keep a running list to revisit in March. Much appreciated!
[avatar]
Thanks for the note on Dawn Again. Glad you like the concept. This one definitely got its hooks in me. I’m pretty pleased with it how it turned out given the relative time constraints and my limited beat science skills. What would you flesh out further?
[avatar]
@reklov
Danke für "Ferdinand"!
Eigentlich hätte da eine knallige Steel Drum hingehört - zur Not musste halt mein Kochtopf herhalten...
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment over on How Do You Do It?

After last year and, frankly, comments from you and others, @tfish77 and I got some confidence and just kept going. It is funny to listen to some of our stuff from that FAWM or the one before at this point because we are evolving past it. So some of those tracks we were very excited about seem like practice or warm-up takes compared to the newer stuff.

This bit:
> The weird synthesizer fit so well with the guitars
That is how we both feel about it. We have jokingly said that we are going to start a new genre: Electro-Goth Metal.

We are both very excited about what we are working on but it keeps being a moving target as we write better things and debate whether older things should be improved or left in the dust. We will have something out some time this year though!

Thanks again for the encouraging words!
[avatar]
Thanks, I was determined to get at least one song in a different time signature.
[avatar]
@oswlek
Thanks for the tip about my SC page, Nadine.

FWIW, when I mention slap delay, I don't mean something overt like CCR has on "Bad Moon Rising". I'm referring to a more subtle usage that is less effect and more spatial enhancer. If it isn't immediately clear what I mean, this video does a pretty nice job of illustrating the technique.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXC-JHr_btw

EDIT: I have no mixtape regrets either. I just don't use tapes that much these days! 😀
[avatar]
I see, I'll figure something out later. Hopefully things will flow better after a rework
[avatar]
You could probably make mint sound convincing in Melody mode but that’s not what I did. Just played around with a few pre-recorded motifs and their versions. I’m sure they were recorded as a whole and should be more realistic because of it. I’ve heard good stuff from very skilled piano-guitar players, but it’s a serious skill.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "happy beat, happy vibe, still so sad" !

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are better way to make some parts flow better and hit harder, but I don't know which one. Would love some pointers so I can rework it later :)
[avatar]
@oswlek
Thanks for the kind comment on "Mist", Nadine. To be clear, the writing took 10 minutes. It was still a few hours before the song was down well enough to be recorded. 😄
[avatar]
Thanks for your lovely comment on Letter to the Fallen, much appreciated.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your kind words on Better This Way :)
[avatar]
Hey, you wanna do a collab? 😁
[avatar]
Thanks for listening again - and yes I play drums on all my songs…
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out "Haunted" maybe I will have to do an acapella if nobody takes on instrumentation. I have some ideas.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment !

I know I can reach the 14 song marks. I just need some inspiration. As for february, besides FAWM, it's not a particularly interesting and motivating month for me. I don't know
[avatar]
I just stole your idea to add hearts after my favorite songs I've done this year. Great idea!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine, we set out to do a skirmish that would incorporate doing the skirmish. We knew that was a tall task to get done quickly so we came into it with music and a chorus. Once the prompt was give we planned to create some banter around it a piece together a few verses. We were mostly on track. We had everything sketched out and Wobbie went off to record her vocal take. She claims to have done that quickly but her email to me got lost in internet space and actually didn’t show until 12 hours late. I just thought she was rewriting words and stuff I was on FAWM killing time. After two hours or so she emailed without a file attached to check in on my progress. That’s when we realized our grand plan was in trouble. Wobbie got me the file through some file sharing site. I got to work on my bit but by the time I was done it was four or five hours after the skirmish deadline. The humor of what we were trying to do no longer seemed relevant and we were burnt out because we had put so much into it. We took a break and neither of us could bear to revisit the project for days. The video was our trying to deal with and salvage what we had done.
[avatar]
Hi Nadine! About the guitar song: well when I was reading the part about the long nails I was like 'well this is oddly specific, but I guess people have preferences?' and actually nearing the second half of the song I had this aha-moment. So compliments to you!
[avatar]
Cheers for the comment on "Runes Shining in the Mist"!

I'm very honoured for you to ask me to play guitar on your track :) I unfortunately can't promise anything 100%, as I'm very busy at least during March: we have a studio booked with one of my bands right at the beginning of March and then have a show with another group at the end of the month. I'm also quite hesitant, 'cause I don't exactly see myself as a skillful player, I just do straight forward tremolo picking :D But if you aren't in too much of a hurry with it, I can check it out if you have tabs for it.
[avatar]
Seriously, there are some evenings where I feel like inhaling a whiskey bottle or two 😂
[avatar]
Hi! I'm ready for the digital 4 track :)
[avatar]
On “Europa cult” yes in the beginning section I did used pitch down formants. However it is the octave I sang it in. I also used a funky reverse reverb. I was attempting to create that weird Alienesque vocal. I was trying to juxtapose Alien and Human with the drastically different sections.
[avatar]
@geoffs
Thank you for checking out my 2.10.23 demo! Glad you enjoyed it. The original guitar was recorded in the hospital, but I re-recorded it now that I'm home, including the vocals 😀 . There very well might be a video down the road for this song...

@jeff9
Bless you, Nadine. Glad you liked When I Come Home. Thanks so much for your generous comment.

Love the hat, btw!
[avatar]
@thetau
Yes I am a Ghost.... Aren't we all?
Russ
[avatar]
Thank you! Yes, strange days, but also a lot of fun in the end :D
[avatar]
Hey Nadine. I’ll definitely check it out later on. I’m planning on catching up with some listening before bed. 👍🏻
[avatar]
Yeah, I got a proper wooden djembe with an animal hide head. A friend of mine bought it from Ghana I think and I bought it off her. I place a condenser mic pointing at the bottom and a dynamic at the top.
[avatar]
Thanks for the update on the digital 4 track! Just let me know
[avatar]
Thank you so much! Yes it is, though for me, I actually have to learn to be less calm. It's strange. Oh...and you're right, there is a duck <3
[avatar]
Thank you, Nadine. I've just sent my reply.
[avatar]
Thanks! I guess I spend a little bit more time on the mix on that one than is necessary in FAWM conditions. But it's fun to tinker. The djembe is sometimes difficult to mix because the bass sound of it is so boomy and the rim sound is quite soft. But when you find a spot for it, it's really nice.
[avatar]
Ah I’ll leave it be then. This is FAWM after all - on to the next one :)
[avatar]
Thanks! I’m definitely forcing the voice a bit - but I kind of recorded myself into a corner if that make sense! Bit sore now. I was struggling quite a bit with the mix tbh. The vocals are definitely over compressed (I added a 1176 at the end as it wasn’t sitting, but I was a bit heavy handed). Will try and fix that. Question: do you think the kick is too loud? And anything else poking out for you? There is an organ in there ;)
[avatar]
Hey, Nadine - Thank you for listening to A Little Bit More of the Same. Being one of your FAWM favorites is high praise - I know how much you are listening. Working with @cheslain was like a dream come true. If I heard this song on the radio, I would absolutely think "Oh, I wish I helped write that one."
[avatar]
Re: organs... a lot of it was my producer giving me feedback over and over on the organ tone. I think at one point I added a new one just to test it out and forgot to turn off the old one, and I liked how it sounded... so I just kept adding and then leveling out the volumes on each one to get more or less. Also played with the panning so they're not all just center channel on top of each other.
[avatar]
In my head, the second tiny nap is what happens when the poor wee sloth falls out his tree.
[avatar]
Interesting take on puppet master in "In the Crosshairs," Nadine. Thx for having stopped by to voice it. Here's to your creatively-interpreting eye! But just who is puppet master? More than one? And what's the album ultimate about? Hmm....
[avatar]
Thanks for all the great comments, Nadine! And FYI, the organ sound on "Alex's Podcast Theme" is actually 4 organs!
[avatar]
I see, we spam the profile instead, gotcha 😀
[avatar]
I'd say it's a classic ^^
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "void" and "the hell am i doing"

That was not my voice in "void". It was AlterEgo. I think it works better in this context and to be honest, I was not feeling great. Sneezing a lot and having a headache so not the best condition for screaming or singing :(

And for the other one, don't worry. No more norwegian reggaeton 😂
[avatar]
You are right. One of the albums I recorded and released based on tracks from FAWM 2022 had quite a bit of a Springsteen influence. 'What Molly Said' was even more Springsteen before the synths came out.
[avatar]
I'm working steadily to improve! :) Watch those marshmallows! And, thanks for listening to my track "Nutrition." :)
[avatar]
Of course I wouldn't mind if you add it, Nadine. Thank you for asking :)
[avatar]
You're welcome! Thank you too and Happy FAWMing. :)
[avatar]
.wav is fine, I only said .mp3 so ou could send it over email. Mix is fine for what I intended, but if you send stems it gives a little more arrangement wiggle room. It's a blues though, there isn't going to be a 2-bar 7/8 breakdown.
[avatar]
Mind emailing an .mp3? I've got to get sections looping in a DAW to get writing. I could just write to a stock 12-bar blues and know it would fit, but whats the fun in that.
[avatar]
I think you have to go with your instinct on what you release. All I'd say is your vocals have improved a tonne, and they particularly suited that pop punk style :)
[avatar]
Thank you for the comment on "Celestial Slime"! Hoping to bring even more ancient death metal your way!
[avatar]
Grüße aus Göttingen:-) Viel Spaß beim FAWMen!
[avatar]
@b3nut
Thank you so much for the comments and the recommendation! Herzlich vielen Dank! 😀
[avatar]
Great! So pleased you’ve found someone. :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind comments on "I am Sent"- eclairs are addictive, be warned!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to "Taken Alive." I'll take "weirdest word" anyday, if it works!
[avatar]
@sollis
Thank you for taking the time to listen to my tracks, Nadine! And yes, I think you're right about 'Midnight Swim' - If I add a vocal to it, I think it'll need to be something sparse and light. Nothing too overpowering. I appreciate your thoughts!
[avatar]
It has been quick. I was worried that I would struggle this year due to my holiday from 20th Feb. I guess that period of not writing helped as I’ve got a lot of ideas that just seem to keep coming.
[avatar]
Absolutely, you and @musicsongwriter have your pick of the litter!
[avatar]
Yes of course! Hope you find the right person for it.
[avatar]
Hey Nadine, would you be able to send me the demo for Pay It Forward? I’d like to have a go at adding some lyrics/vocals to it.
[avatar]
Thank you for all the awesome comments! I will be back here soon to listen. I can’t keep up this year.
[avatar]
Thank you, Nadine. I've sent you my reply.
[avatar]
I read Aliki what you said and she loved it! And yes, I was kinda going for an Amy vibe-ish without going over the top. Cool you noticed.
[avatar]
@seppo
Yes, anything i try to do, still just sound like me, nowhere near what I thought I was going to do :)
Bummed that I missed last note in 1:44 basslick but there is no second takes.
[avatar]
@gm7
Ha Buckley's syrup is a cough and sore throat medicine...lol
[avatar]
I’m in the zone at the moment. I have a decent template for these more acoustic based tracks so it’s not taking long to get them down. I feel like I need to rock out a bit though so maybe something heavier next
[avatar]
I met Aliki at a voice teacher training school many years back. Just about ready to hang on a Skype call with her right now!
[avatar]
Hey Nadine.... Nancy says you know Aliki? She's one of my best friends.
[avatar]
Glad you liked "Hey Minnesota" I had fun playing with a different genre and stepping out of my comfort zone with the a capella. I think Russ is going to try to provide some instrumentation, we'll see what happens!
[avatar]
Two years is a lot quicker than quite a few folks 😀
[avatar]
@sph
Hi Nadine, the solo is played on a shallow body resophonic guitar. Here it sounds nearly like a banjo ;-)
[avatar]
Thanks for listening it’s mostly 5/8 with a 6/8 bridge and a 4/4 chorus ;) the drumming was a challenge!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Many thanks, Nadine, for your encouraging words about "Wishin' is Like Fishin'". You never know if things will click in a random collaboration, but this one with Rob went like clockwork.
[avatar]
@nadine
Sorry I didn't get your message about figuring out sending and receiving files until now. I am invovlved in a collaboration that will see if I can figure it all out. So probably best to wait and see how that one goes. But loving collaborating so far. So am hopeful I can get my ducks in a row and take on more.
[avatar]
Yeah, we often have tapes that are not finished in time... They get delayed, or life gets in the way. We usually wait til the next 5090 or FAWM to finish them.
[avatar]
Hey, Nadine - @zinglizh is the amazing vocal technician I was telling you about. She's also good friends with Aliki. And she loves heavy metal and hard rock and jazz and ....
[avatar]
@jamkar
:-)
[avatar]
@roy
Hi, i've been trying to figure out what to do next with the morph, and the chords would be handy i think. thanks! royestelhughes at gmail.com
[avatar]
Thanks for catching that I did an @ when I meant to do a hashtag!
[avatar]
Hey! I do play the uke... I always write a song on Feb 2 for FAWM using the uke, for International Play your Ukulele Day. But it's a nice instrument to have around to doodle some notes. I got a baritone just before FAWM (the one I play in the video is a tenor), and the tuning is DGBE just like a guitar!

As for the tape, I forgot to say in the liner notes but it started in 2022, which is why it was so "quick". I'll update the liner notes!
[avatar]
Was genuinely weird for me to hear my simple guitar part sped to 2x on that 4-track compilation. But the song turned out so well I'm not complaining.
[avatar]
Thanks, Nadine, for the comments, and thanks (I think?) for the sus pun. I appreciate you taking the time to listen!
[avatar]
Thank you! Yes, I thought the same thing, I'm missing a bass too :D Will hopefully be added after FAWM, as I don't have any experience in writing bass lines.
[avatar]
@hmorg
Thanks for the comment on "Fear the Old Blood"! The synth, as well as the entire song music-wise, was inspired by Fear Factory's "Zero Signal" which appeared in the Mortal Kombat movie, but now that you mention it, it is sort of Static-X like. And it's not like I haven't listened to a shitload of Static-X in my youth. :D
[avatar]
Yes sorry, i changed my name just before the start of FAWM. I'm gonna check the thread now! Sorry again!
[avatar]
I agree. I’ll clean that ending up at some point. I was in bands for years with my brother but it sort of took a back seat when we both had kids. Maybe sometime soon we’ll try again
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "i'm normal" ^^

Not really into it that much, I don't know many artists in the genre. Only Counterstrike, to a certain degree Zardonic and Volatile Cycle. These are my only references
[avatar]
Thank you, Nadine, just sent my message. If you don't see it please check your spam folder.
[avatar]
Thank you :)

😮Did someone say (talk-metal) Metallica again, Nadine? 🤘🗣️🎤
[avatar]
Hi Nadine, sorry for the delay, it's ready for downloading. Let me know when you have please. Thank you.
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out Game of Life. If I could turn that into an Alanis Morisette type sound, I'd be over the moon. :)
[avatar]
😉 Hmm,...you could be right about concept for my Puppet Master album. Oh, how it all unravels under a keen metalhead's eye. 🤔 I wonder if I should add a #metal tag to "Beyond Tomorrow"? Hmmmmmm. Cool having you stop by, Nadine!🤘
[avatar]
Thank you! Couldn’t believe it too when I wrote it :D will definitely do that, I’m hearing my nasal cavities and I’m still coughing like a mad-man in the morning
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment! Full disclosure, I only did the record in an hour. Don’t want to claim extra credit where it’s not due 😆
[avatar]
Thank you for the comments on ” Suljettu” song. Check out bandcamp and noisejazz you get tons of weird stuff. Well I was really open mind mood that night… 😁
[avatar]
@debs
Hi Nadine! Yes, @roy is in there twice intentionally (once for the seed and once so they can morph)!
[avatar]
Thank you for the continued encouragement! 🤗
[avatar]
Hey thanks!! That foam was nothing special, just some soft gray packing foam that came in a package sometimes in the past. I cut a 1 inch strip, which muted the strings way too much. I cut that in half, which was still too much, so I ended up with a piece that was about 1 cm wide and fit below the strings and pushed up from below. It was jammed right against the bridge. Completely different for me and super fun!! :) (I have a bass with a big piece of this foam under the strings and it gives a very 1960's sound.)
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks for checking out Average Joe. It is always interesting or me to see where a musician takes my lyrics. Such a fun ride.
[avatar]
I appreciate the kind words on my tune! And I love seeing you cross goals off your to-do list. That's inspiring for me to keep stretching myself too 🙂
[avatar]
Sorry Nadine, didn't see your message before. Let me know what time and I'll change the settings.
[avatar]
I definitely think that outrage serves a purpose and can be healthy and appropriate! When you’re wronged, you should feel a sense of outrage, it’s information, to help you protect your boundaries. I do want to ride that unicorn, it’s something I’m still learning.
[avatar]
Hi, Nadine, thank you for your kind message on Pay it Forward. I will make it free to download. Please let me know when you downloaded the file and I'll revert it. It will be wonderful to collaborate with you and we could fit a collaboration with the same name :)
[avatar]
@arkka
Thanks!

@gm7
I c your point..but guitars guys like to hear themselves..lol

@beacon
I'm the same with my emails. I always go to Inbox zero!

Thanks. Now you know what it sounds like to put a guitar amp on a synthesizer 😊

Hi Nadine, thanks for your comment on Let Go!

Thank you so much :) always appreciating your comments!!

You are very welcome, Nadine. Wishing you a speedy recovery. and good luck with all your projects.
[avatar]
Well yeah we improvised couple of punk songs last rehearsals. But we all have punk background in band.
[avatar]
Haha true story… thanks.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on my songs! "Final Friday" could be metal, or even some heavier alt rock similar to the band "Brand New". And
"T.P." - I don't know where these crazy ideas come from 😆
[avatar]
Well I wish you lots of joy and excitement with your guitar! And look forward to it featuring in more of your songs.
[avatar]
I'm sorry to hear. I hope you feel better soon. Of course we should never sing when we have sore throat but I don't follow this advice even though I don't have a voice to speak of. It's really bad to sing but it's too tempting to sing when the song is there. I sympatize. Please take care. Personally I like your voice a lot but it is your choice.
[avatar]
@seppo
Oh yes it died. Glad that I have every important stuff in separate hard drive so no big damages.
I just took an hour while kids were playing Fortnite and played just something easy. I never get groove gear on when I have time to do it, that'll happen in night time in the middle of the week when I should be sleeping :)
[avatar]
I had a djent period a few years back. I don't listen that much anymore but Modern Day Babylon and a few other djent bands are my go-to listen
[avatar]
@amelea
Thanks for the comments! "But one that makes you wake up and dance" has got to be the best compliment because who actually starts dancing right when their alarm starts blaring haha
[avatar]
@nancyrost invented laundrycore
[avatar]
@jeff9
So thankful you took the time to have a listen to "Pack Up and Leave", Nadine. Your comment is much appreciated.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on Feline Fagin. My default song format is songs about my cat, as she expects a little song while she eats her dinner. (she isn't really a klepto!)
[avatar]
"bleergh" is love, "bleergh" is life

Thank you for listening to "jack" :) I think that during last 50/90,taking the decision to sing and not program a voice anymore makes it even more fun to create and push me to experiment more with my voice
[avatar]
Not everything I do is 80s lol. I'm creating a new genre 😉 jk
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thank you, Nadine, for a lovely comment about "Rannoch Moor". Looks like you're off and running! Well done.
[avatar]
@manuel
Thanks for your feedback on my first song! Interesting to read that it paints a picture for you that is close to but still slightly different from the one I had in mind. ;)
[avatar]
Sorry I got the wrong end of the stick. It certainly *sounded* like a lot of frustration.
Glad you're having fun with it (but piano is waaaaay more fun, there I said it!)
[avatar]
Awesome! 😊 works for me
[avatar]
Me and my guitar is so beautiful.
[avatar]
@seppo
Thanks, need to try if my other computer can handle mu tracks so i don't have to buy new machine to keep going.
[avatar]
Hey, you should follow @chrissquier.
He wrote lyrics and sang on one of my tunes last year.
And we play in a rock band together. :O)
[avatar]
You are very welcome, Nadine. I admire your talent.
[avatar]
I can record a track this weekend for group 9 of that helps. Thanks.
[avatar]
Thank you for that nice comment this morning - I'm instantly well-disposed to anything that ends 'RAWK!' :)
[avatar]
Thank you for comment. Metal heart still beating even sometimes feel like life is trying to drag me down.
[avatar]
Thank you for listening to my second song :)

Very different from what I usually do. Glad you liked it !
[avatar]
Nadine - thank you for listening to my Rilke song. I guess the rings in the poem could be tree rings or rings in water disturbed by a stone or even the orbit of a planet or comet or something. I like that cycling outward image - and the idea that even if I don't understand exactly what my life is for, I want to keep doing it as long as I can. There's another poem on the facing page in the Reclam Hefte that is about a tree growing over a grave...Maybe I'll try that one some day...
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment...
[avatar]
I don't know if there's still the badger tradition in Germany about Candlemas and weather but in North America that's where the groundhog day thing came from. German immigrants who substituted groundhogs for badgers.
[avatar]
Oooh Korean yakki mandu all the way. 🤤
[avatar]
@andrea
Thanks for checking out These Haunted Dreams. Hope to find a collaborator during FAWM. I also hear a heavy rock or metal tune :)
[avatar]
Tea is ALSO a plant-based beverage!
[avatar]
Well it's up to you.
[avatar]
Nadine, thanks for stopping by to listen to "So Many Cars, Such Little Drive!" I originally planned to be even more ambitious with the variety of sounds - acoustic string instruments are surprisingly versatile as percussion instruments! (With caution and care, of course...) May the creative spirit flow through you this month.
[avatar]
Yeah he’s fine really. His writing influences are all just pretty dark. He is such a good lyricist though. I’ve been trying to get him to join FAWM but he just doesn’t have time
[avatar]
@cblack
Thanks. I'll have to start taking keys a bit more seriously. 😀
[avatar]
Thanks for the feedback. I agree. I'll end up adding some synth pads or maybe some string element after FAWM is over. My brother is very good at coming up with some really dark and disturbing imagery. I should probably be a bit worried about him. haha
[avatar]
Lol, Nadine! You had Janet Jackson's "Nasty" worming into my brain over that comment in part. Clever play on words.

Other note, much appreciate your eye for my lyrics and for letting me know. Thanks for keeping me in mind for collabs, whether they happen or not, cool that you're cool.
[avatar]
Thanks for the message on my song.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment :) Yeah, it's definitely inspired by Static-X, especially the song "Hollow"

Thanks for your compliment on my screams ! Still working on it but I like how I've progressed since last 50/90 ^^
[avatar]
I will be using all of these songs as jumping points for albums after FAWM, for sure
[avatar]
Also, all the drums are acoustic kits. There's no electric drums or electronic drums sounds. That's the beauty of midi
[avatar]
Sound wise I can do whatever you want. Big, phat, punchy, whatever you want.
[avatar]
i use midi software to record drums , but i play everything myself , no programming. i do not have any examples to show you , but ive listened to all kinds of heavy music for most of my life. if youre willing to let give it a shot , ill do my best. if you dont like , no hard feelings
[avatar]
During her Boys for Pele tour, Tori Amos lugged around a harpischord. Here she is covering The Cure and Kate Bush :) It's a cool instrument! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vi-hnpvMt0
[avatar]
@cts
Man - I really am diggin' that hat!!!
[avatar]
Thanks for the tip on comments! 😊
[avatar]
Sorry if I made you misunderstood me. I dont do any collabs because I have new job so can’t promise that I have time to so some music this year. I listen and comment more….
[avatar]
@cblack
Yeah, some warmup for a few days should get me back to "5 minutes at a time" level. Could NOT do an entire gig of growls! Not a chance!
[avatar]
@cblack
Ha, yeah. I love flanger. 😜
[avatar]
@cblack
My screams have gotten worse in the last year. Been focusing on cleans instead. So now when I try to growl, it hurts a little from lack of practice.

Definitely doing at least 1 growl song this year, though. I'll just have to practice and warm up first.
[avatar]
I don't know that German song but that's cool!
[avatar]
@sph
Thanks a lot. The funkiness might be the aftermath of visiting a "Faschingsparty" on saturday 😂
[avatar]
Have a great FAWM, I am deep into my second book now so won't be participating (probably) but I will check in and see what is going on from time to time. Geoff :-)
[avatar]
New profile Clenig17. I couldn’t get logged into the old one. Looking forward to fawm. I can’t wait to check out your new tunes.
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind words Nadine! So happy to see you here again and I've been LOVING your releases this year. Keep me in the loop!
[avatar]
@tezzin
Good to know since I'm new here. There didn't seem to be any intuitive way to reply to comments, so thanks for letting me know!
[avatar]
@sph
Soll ich dir auch eins basteln lassen? 😀
[avatar]
Hi Nadine! Welcome back for '23! Just wanted to say thanks for your welcoming encouragement last year & being so inspiring with your prolific music output. You've encouraged me to try again this year! But most of all... I am thrilled to discover we have similar taste in hats!!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thank you, Nadine. More country on tap (probably), but maybe I'll stretch a little. Hope you find time to crank out some new stuff yourself. Let me know if I can help.
[avatar]
🤔Did someone just half quote AC/DC in a comment reply to me, Nadine, with: "It's a long road to the top," to which I'll add that lyric's end: "if you want to rock 'n' roll." 🤘Like music minds, same groove, Nadine. We should collab on a song this month. Wow! Cool that FAWMers'll hear you guitar shredding this Feb. I'm all ears 👂👂.
[avatar]
As my mom always says “I’m as ready as I’ll ever be”. Good to be back!
[avatar]
Thx for the tip/suggestion, Nadine. I'll check it out. If I'm able, I'm in. 🤔How's guitar playing been for you since 50/90? Shredding yet, still not there, or just didn't have time to practice more?
[avatar]
Thanks for the welcome back. I look forward to seeing what you come up with this year. I am sure it will inspire me.
[avatar]
Cheers! I'm eager to hear your stuff as well! :) Definitely hit me up if you're up for a collab!
[avatar]
Thank you thank you, good to be back.
[avatar]
@cts
Thanks, Nadine! That fedora you’re rockin’ is choked full of swag and awesomeness. Happy FAWMing to you as well. I anticipate with great delight what you come up with!
[avatar]
Thx, Nadine. See, I told you. But, oh, man. Say it isn't so. :) Not! What? You already joined the random collab challenge? Here's to you jumping into this FAWM with two feet...and guitars in hand. Rock on!
[avatar]
Hey, Nadine, back in the FAWM music saddle, huh? Great! Hello again. But, come on, lol, no way you won't be postig a new lyric or two--regardless of your workload. Lyrics are in your blood!
[avatar]
Sorry, I misread you as a collaborator when you're the organiser. Thanks for organising !
[avatar]
Hi Nadine - a quick note to say hello ahead of the 4-Track challenge. All the best, and hope you have a good month - Jon
[avatar]
Heck yeah! I mean, I use modes all the time, and even mostly know what they are or why I'd want to use them. But there's a huge gap between me knowing how to use them and me understanding them that just got smaller today! :)
[avatar]
Hi Nadine, good luck with your challenges.
[avatar]
Welcome back for another go around @nadine. Good to see you :)
[avatar]
I laughed when I read your comment in the "frustrated" thread. It took me a long time to realize that I have NO ability to predict what of mine anyone else will like or not. 😀
[avatar]
We've uploaded our album to Bandcamp, thanks for that advice!
https://lavishdude.bandcamp.com/album/leading-off
[avatar]
Thanks for the kudos on our collab “Fit Right In”, Nadine! Very kind of you—love your hat pic!!
[avatar]
@candle
If you're still interested in hearing Esctasy, I posted another link that should work this time (sorry about that):

See You In The Shadows…
[avatar]
@chroes
Und danke! 💖
[avatar]
@chroes
Hehehe. Alles gut hier, keine Sorge. Und klar, ab Februar bin ich dann auch konzentriert und brav(er). 😁
[avatar]
@brisk
Thanks for listening to "Callin' For You" and commenting! I picked a song at random, and thought Angel in Jeans sounds fantastic. Such lovely production, and that chorus is killer.
[avatar]
@jamkar
:-)
[avatar]
Nadine I love your song "Fit RIght In". Such a wonderful message, a beautiful melody, and the composition and production are so well done. Looking forward to hearing more this FAWM 😀
[avatar]
You are awesome for listening through all those songs!!!!
[avatar]
@reklov
Grüß dich, Nadine! Viel Spaß beim FAWMen!
[avatar]
Merci gleichfalls! Freue mich auf deine Kreationen, egal wie viele!
[avatar]
I'm sure we'll both keep our ears open, and if something comes up, we'll make it happen! I'm not one to force collabs or songs either way.

Our album's not on bandcamp, but we do have it up on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUsaYuoVMzc&list=OLAK5uy_mlnlTzKVd4ft3y0POOOdyO8VVnhLFbOhI&index=2

Though that might have ads... if it does, let us know and we can figure out that whole bandcamp thing, or just send it your way. Otherwise, it's also up for purchase on... I think Amazon's music store and iTunes if you do those. We just released it with distrokid and let it do its thing.
[avatar]
Heeeyyy glad to see you back again and doing well. Thanks for a pre-FAWM comment on the gateway song thread. Maybe we'll find some inspiration to put another collab out there this year, jazz or otherwise 🙂
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out my track in the Gateway Song thread. Looking forward to your 2023 songs.
[avatar]
@audrey
Welcome back! Hope you have a great FAWM!
[avatar]
Hello! Looking to forward to collaborating!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine, thanks for the note. Always appreciate hearing from you…You never cease to amaze. I’m sure you will be making some impressive posts even though you are swamped with an existing workload…
[avatar]
Thanks Nadine! Hope it is tons of fun for you this year 😀
[avatar]
HI Nadine! Can't wait. Good luck on finishing your current projects and hoping for all of the new FAWM material that you can make time for!
[avatar]
Thank you, my dear friend! Happy FAWMing :)
[avatar]
@crisp1
Wishing you a great FAWM, Nadine!
[avatar]
Haha! You got me Nadine! Now I can’t change it or our comments won’t make sense. Perhaps I’ll change it … yesterday. 😂
[avatar]
@andrea
Hi Nadine, I look forward to hearing your songs, even just a few. Hope you have a fun FAWM :)
[avatar]
Hey Nadine! Great to see you again :)
I'm not sure what you mean about my bio & me visiting the future - so perhaps you can tell me? I've always wanted to be a time-lord! :D
[avatar]
@jeff9
Happy FAWMing, Nadine. Good to see you again.
[avatar]
Hi Nadine! So psyched for February!
[avatar]
Thank you! And thank you for the non-FAWM time listens!
[avatar]
Hello Nadine, have a wonderful FAWM and I am looking forward to hearing your six-string progress!
[avatar]
@sph
[avatar]
howdy! excited to be back 😎
[avatar]
@wacha
I'm glad you're back, I always look forward to your songs!
[avatar]
@sph
Servus!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine! Dir auch viel Spaß beim FAWMen. Bist du noch am Gitarrespielen dran?
[avatar]
@jamkar
Very nice profile Nadine! I am happy to see you here, and look forward to whatever you choose to share!
[avatar]
Thank you for the shout out on your bandcamp picks post. I’m so excited to get started on another FAWM. Let’s make it the best yet
[avatar]
Hi, Nadine. Happy Fawming. Looking forward to your new songs.
[avatar]
I'll let the muse guide me. 😉
[avatar]
👋👋👋😎
[avatar]
Danke! Hoffe, dass ich ein bisschen was gebacken kriege! Bin auch immer für ne Gitarren- oder Bassspur zu haben.
[avatar]
Happy FAWMing, Nadine! Sorry about that current workload 😬 hope you do manage a few spontaneous rants (they're the best kind)!
[avatar]
@seppo
Oh, yeah. lets go. wait.. not yet.
[avatar]
@aeye
Happy fawming!!
[avatar]
The same to you!
[avatar]
You too! Great to see you here again 😀
[avatar]
Hey Nadine! I'm so exited to see what you come up with! Happy FAWMing! 😀
[avatar]
@chroes
I've been... Around. A lot. Left most of corporate social media behind, I'm now just sitting on this cozy Mastodon sever and am determined to meet only nice people online from now on. 😂 Had a busy year, too busy to produce more music. Sad. But you have been making lots of music, right? 🎶
[avatar]
Nice to see you back here 😊
[avatar]
@chroes
Nadine! Hello! How nice to see you here! 💖
[avatar]
Good luck with FAWM! Rock on indeed.
[avatar]
Welcome back!! Let's have some FAWM fun!
[avatar]
@gm7
Hi buddy!
[avatar]
Cheers from the deep, dark woods where I live with all my opossum friends and family!
[avatar]
Right back at you, but it seems like we never left. ;)
[avatar]
good to see you here again nadine! have fun :)
[avatar]
Trying something with keys sounds like a GRAND idea, get it? I do have a keyboard, so I'm up for a collab or something (in addition to all our other ones).
[avatar]
Welcome back to you as well! :)
[avatar]
Hey Nadine, nice to see you back again!
[avatar]
Thanks! Good FAWMing to you too!
[avatar]
Hi Nadine - likewise! Happy FAWMing!
[avatar]
Heyyyyy! Endlich ist die Seite online :D ich freue mich auf deine rebellischen Songs! 😈
[avatar]
Also, you are awesome and I'm looking forward to whatever you create or modify this year! Let me know if you ever would like me to work on something for you.
[avatar]
<--- It's a guitar! How lucky was that? I don't even have to change my profile pic. :P

Looking forward to hearing what you come up with this FAWM. I'll be listening!
[avatar]
Hi, Nadine - so glad you're here!
[avatar]
Count me in for the digital 4-track! It was a lot of fun last year!
[avatar]
Glorious Disaster is committed to providing one song per FAWM.

Because any more than that we simply can't handle! 😀
[avatar]
Hi, Nadine! Happy to see you around for another FAWM, and looking forward to your songs!
[avatar]
Welcome back, Nadine!! <3
