Greetings, FAWMers!

I've been playing in bands since high school - Malocchio, Atomic Bus, Do Not Resuscitate, The Code Blues Brothers, The Curbfeelers, The Retractors, January Hill, Those Guys Over There, Too Many Beepers, SutureSelf, the Porch Pirates...and more one-off bands and open mic collaborations than I could count. There's internet evidence of many of those bands in performance, which is why I'll stick with being a musician instead of a politician.

Having grown up with Classic Rock, that's my main influence, but warped by gigs as a dee-jay at pop, country and R&B stations, some really remote classical piano training and open ears. Speaking of open, let me know if you'd like to collaborate. I'm not sure if any of the collaborations from past years are still posted but we can always create new ones!

For the tech geeks (and I know you're out there), everything these days is recorded on a desktop Mac with GarageBand using a Mackie EM91CU USB mic and DI's or MIDI for everything else. Keeping it simple - although I still have a Tascam 38, a big board and fancy mics and pre's, I can get better results in less time staying "in the box". And when you're trying to do 14 songs in 29 days, who has time to rewind tape?

Hi @raspberry33 I hope you're doing well. Just checking regarding our collaboration on fairies. Thank you šŸ˜Š

Thank you kindly for the comments and support, and wow you've been really productive on here! Congrats on FAWMing 2024!
[avatar]
thanks for your comments on ... "Celebration". lol, cats!!! [looks at username] oh, this explains so much!!!
[avatar]
Thanks! I didn't expect to end up with this many new songs, but it helps when trying to get a dozen that are good :)
[avatar]
Fantastic, thanks so much for your permission on your JGB!
[avatar]
Thanks for the tips on ā€œSometimesā€. Iā€™m planning to try those changes when I revisit it in March.
[avatar]
How did you know there was a mellotron in there, haha! It's pretty buried beneath the organ. Thanks!

Thank you for the comment on my skirmish song from a few days ago - I'm just getting around to the last bit of commenting today. I like your suggestions for adding percussion. I had a very simple drum beat instead of the click while recording, but I removed it since I didn't have time to make it better. I'm not sure what I would have done anyway, so it's nice to hear some suggestions :)

Thanks for your kind comments regarding Sweet Poison. They are truly appreciated.
[avatar]
Thanks for you kind comments regarding Too Far gone... They are truly appreciated. I'd be interested in hearing your cousin song. (All Messed Up With Nowhere To Go).
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your comments on my song "Trying to Find Your Number." I am always surprised and happy to get a comment on a song that didn't come from a skirmish! Means a lot!

Thank you for your kind compliments and suggestions regarding my devil song! I wouldn't say that I've made any specific choices regarding how it's starting or anything like that, because it doesn't have music yet. If I write lyrics first, they almost always change when I write music. It's a skirmish song, you know? It's not a final draft lol. I probably will write a bridge or another verse or something. It starts with the chorus on the lyrics I posted because that's the first thing I wrote and I just kept adding to it until it was time to post it. šŸ˜œ Regarding the chord progression, I'm sure it will be in a minor key, and it may end up being something similar, but I'm not going to be super intentional about it. I will just fiddle around with my guitar until I like something, you know? šŸ™‚ Thanks for your suggestions though, and I'm glad you enjoyed some of the lines!

Thanks for the comment. That really is an interesting perspective too. I actually took the healing option from the book, but this option could also work that would sound different of course.
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your warm comment on my fairies piece. I'd love to collaborate with you. Please let me know if you would like me to send you downloadable wav link. I usually upload privately on Soundcloud for wav files, or I can send you MP3 via your email.

Thank you!

Thanks for the comment on Leaving Lemoyne. It was all fictional, including the lost love. I was going to work "Pennsylvania" into the song but as I live in PA my heart wouldn't let me leave the State.....
[avatar]
thanks for your comments on modern day dragons.
and no patch - that is a real true blue farfisa that i bought at a second hand store for $12.50
her nickname is the fartfisa... šŸ˜†

Thanks! I have all my stuff - including a DAW template - set up so I can just hit record when the inspiration strikes. Really helps with productivity.
[avatar]
I thought it was a fun skirmish and yes, there was some really fun variety. And thanks, that was a fun one to write. I've really focused on what paths people take lately.
[avatar]
I am really impressed with your work. I have heard a few things. Don't know how I found you, but glad I did!
[avatar]
I bought my guitar in November(a birthday for me). Last 50/90, I kept asking FAWMErs the make of their guitar when I heard the sound I liked. I bought a Simon & Patrick Godin, on sale at a second hand store. Not quite the Seagull I was looking for, but it is a goal worth pursuing, to learn how to play it.
[avatar]
Thank you for commenting on my song! I'm impressed with how you're getting all these out so quickly!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your comments on my song, Don't Tell Me That It's Morning I really appreciate it.
[avatar]
hey thanks for the kind words on "Younger" - I think your project that you described sounds great, too!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to Bloopers, and my saucy inner critic sneaking in on the recording. Embrace the cringe world tour, haha!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on my Little Richard song - I think you are right about the end!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to "Lost on Me" and for your thoughtful comments! The first commenter for 2024, exciting! Glad you thought it was miked well (a friend taught me how to do that) and that the mix is okay. As for the lyrics, I cut at least half of what I had. But as long as it still has some sort of meaning left, just going to go with it :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment! I guess many of us have someone in our past we often think about taking a different path with!
[avatar]
Thanks!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for the nice commentā€”huge fan of both the Beatles and the Bangles, as you can probably tell (my band played a tribute set as the Bangles last year around this time!)
[avatar]
thanks for stopping by and listening to 'Jackie', the guitar goes through a modified garage band amp, tweed with a distortion pedal I think and compressed too. The guitar itself is a 'rat bait' tele, check out Pete's guitars https://ratbaitguitars.co.uk/
[avatar]
Thank you so much for the kind words on "One Day, We'll Be Old Together At The Nursing Home" - I appreciate it a lot
[avatar]
yes i am glad to have been doing skirmishes like this for years ! but i guess AI will surpass me soon if not already.
[avatar]
@raspberry33 Any and all are welcome to attend. Bring a friend, until it ends! :)
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind words on Martyr. Glad it showed up as a random song too! šŸ˜„

Hi @raspberry33 Im so sorry to hear you lost your brother at 58! My brother was 58 as well. Thank you so much for your very kind words. I cant tell you how much I appreciate them. Cheers, Smudgie

Thanks for the nice comments about my mandolin and singing, but the lyric credits go to @johnkaniecki .
[avatar]
thx for the advice on the title not sure if you knew but i specifically ask for suggestions on titles so thx again
[avatar]
thanks for the comment on grand finale...

Thanks for your comments on "Dunellen Station". Tim Horton's does have a few locations around the NY/NJ area now, but Dunkin has one on every corner and one in the middle of the block. Sooo I don't know where those characters were when they stopped for coffee ... !
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on my song! I do plan on writing another verse and changing the first verse a bit after FAWM is over :)
[avatar]
Thank you for your comment on "Know You Were My Friend". All the instruments are virtual. Arthritis this year is keeping me from playing any of them.
[avatar]
Thank you for your very generous comment on my first skirmish. That is much appreciated. I actually lost the tune a bit in the last part but I was under time-pressure so I just up-loaded it. Iā€™m goad the overall effect worked in general.
[avatar]
Thanks for you comments on Gaza. I'm open for collab if you want to play with it. Like your "In the Middle". Here's a koan for you:

Got one like that too
Phi Beta Kappa but he
Don't know what to do

Thank you for your comment on ā€œDancing With the Devilā€™s Daughter.ā€

Thanks for listening and commenting on PSA for PSAs. Yeah, reflections on simpler times.
[avatar]
Cheers for the comment on washed machine, there's a lot going on there and glad it worked out
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments - my guitar recording is just a strat through a quad cortex straight into my Audio interface. Iā€™m using the quad to model an amp with enough distortion to just break up when I push the playing so I can control the tone by how hard I play. The harmonic device of switching to a major for the last cadence is known as a Tierce de Picardie first used in 1786!

I appreciate your comment on my one song so far. I really love what you do. I've got some unfinished songs that I want to complete, and I'd like to try collaborating on one of them. It's called Summer 1980. I'll post the lyrics. It's a story I wrote long ago about a night when I went to a heavy metal bar in LA.
[avatar]
thank you for your kind message. I am posting all new material. It is just that I wrote and recorded it in December rather than February due to my inability to sing due to my unstable emotional state. My collaborations, however, will all be February children, and I hope to do 14 of them as well as the 11 songs for my official FAWM album
