Rest in Peace Bentley xxx

I've been through some shit this year. Looking for a bit of release this February, some of my songs might be a bit more REAL than my usual nonsense. But hopefully there'll still be plenty of nonsense to go around.

I'm also hosting a FAWM themed show on XRPRADIO.CO.UK on Friday nights from 9pm UK time. Please head to the above site, or bung me a message if you'd like to submit a song xxx

Expect Garage rock, Garage Punk, Psychobilly, Dirty Blues, and weird noise

@mal70
RE THE HUNGER NEVER ENDS feedback, thanks - and what's slothcore? Intrigued

Highway 1 runs along the Pacific Coast in the U.S. Some call it PCH or Pacific Coast Highway. Cheers for the listens!

Yes - snakebite (with or without black, though better with) gets you drunk very quickly. I have a memory that on a 'good' night, I could get through six pints of the stuff, but I'm sure that can't be right. It was definitely substantially more than I could manage now, but six snakebites seems a lot.

Word round our way was that it was banned in 'proper' pubs as those that drank it had a tendency to get quite 'fighty'. Whether that was the drink, or just the inherent nature of those that drank it, I couldn't say. Chicken and egg, perhaps..?
[avatar]
Just want to say thanks for your Friday skirmishes this FAWM. They've been really important in getting me going (and keeping me going) during the month. I definitely wouldn't have a few really cool songs without you.
[avatar]
Wow, thanks so much for the compliments on my Green Boots. I wasn't trying to emulate it, but I'm sure the Chernobyl soundtrack was in my subconscious, I listen to it fairly often.
[avatar]
Anytime spike! You don't need to ask. Thanks.
[avatar]
@thedutchwidows that's the one! I've gone off Nick Cave with recent albums, but Push The Sky Away was a masterpiece.
[avatar]
Finishing Jubilee Street is probably the Nick Cave song you’re thinking of! A very fine song about writing a song!
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on They're All Guilty, man. Heh, I never thought about it as slothcore. It's 66bpm, so doesn't quite qualify alas, but I guess I *could* make it slower...
[avatar]
Thank you for the comment my Comfortably numb lyrics. Theres always seed of real life in there with other spices.
[avatar]
Really resourceful using an old telephone, it sounds great.
[avatar]
Oh man, thanks for playing it on your show. Really enjoyed the amazing variety tonight. And thanks again for the prompt, really needed it to get out of that S-L-U-know-what.
[avatar]
Thank you for the lovely things you said on your show! It was so nice, really enjoying the show. Glad you liked my effort at The Slump, I've had enough of them Tories! Xxx
[avatar]
Thanks, Spike, for your comment in re "Batrachophobia". I usually write my own music, but I'm currently stuck in an "everything sounds the same" mode. Do you write music?
[avatar]
Thank you for commentin my M.O.T.S. Song. I honestly forgot drums from the song and those were last ones I added. I was planning Candlemass or Reverend Bizarre stylish vocals but Im not a singer so maybe your idea is much more practical. Thanks for the idea.
[avatar]
Other than using the word superskirmish and making sure to use the hashtag with the letter at the end, it's all the same. Since you scheduled before I set stuff up, you can use "skirmish" or "superskirmish" in your title, but please do add "#superskirmish" to your hashtags either way.

In general, if you set up a skirmish on a day when someone else has one already on that day, you figure out which letter to use to distinguish them, superskirmish or no. :)
[avatar]
Thanks! Hearing your Bandcamp, it makes sense that you would have a sense of humor...which in reality is a perfectly G-rated flow of hot water from a power plant into a lake that my grandfather has fished on for decades.
[avatar]
Hey, I'm setting up a superskirmish for this weekend. I have the same time as last week reserved for your FAWM Show skirmish reserved for you; let me know if that doesn't work for you.
[avatar]
Thanks very much…that’s very kind of you!
[avatar]
Thanks man, I'm having a blast!
[avatar]
Thanks for playing "Just Turn Me Loose" on your show and your kind comment as well.
I'll probably have another track next week so I wanted to clear up my name: "JW" is initials, just the letters. "Hanberry" is my last name. No problem, it's been butchered all my life and your version was a new one. Seeya...
[avatar]
Re: piano… I play until I screw up, start in the middle and play until I screw up, etc etc etc. then glue the parts together to make it sound like I played the song, lol. I think this one has six pieces glued together. It’s magic!! Thanks for listening.
[avatar]
So glad you like Time and Again and yes the cop show theme song vibe is definitely there. Thanks for the solid feedback
[avatar]
I followed the link but I didn't see a "submit" button or owt similar.
Probably user error... What should I be looking for?
[avatar]
@juhol
If I was able to introduce people to zeuhl, that is more than enough a reward for me for this year's FAWM. Thanks for your comment!
[avatar]
Thabks for the comment on "the bleak!" That effect you heard is probably my main rhythm guitar on the song. I cut it with a pedal called the Swan hunter by champion leccy. It's a delay/reverb and I usually set it so there's a gate on the effect so it cuts off when you stop playing. But it's not perfect so some sound crackles through. I love it.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on the milk song, and yeah, I can definitely make the lyrics you sent work. I think it's gonna be punk; I spent some time thinking on it this morning, but the whole F-the-system vibe feels decidedly punk to me.
[avatar]
Cool, thanks, I'll check 'em out
[avatar]
Hey Spike, thanks for commenting on Feline Fagin. I had a cat that stole odd socks and cabbage leaves and dropped them on the mat so proudly, that was my starting point then it got silly! Glad you liked it x
[avatar]
Dude, wanted to say thanks for the kleptomanic thread and including my tune on your show. Great show. I hope you settled on a sandwich choice that pleases everyone.
[avatar]
Spike I must thank you for putting my song in the recommendation thread. I wondered where all the extra comments were coming from!
[avatar]
Hey thanks :) Kleptomaniac was a great prompt!
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your comment! Yes, many blues songs were filthy...
[avatar]
Hello Spike. I'm in but just getting use to how the site works. Hear to you tonight. Mish.
[avatar]
I have never seen the movie Groundhog Day. I went through a period of time (about the ages of 15-25 or so) when even if I had seen it, I wouldn't remember it. Inexplicable but it made watching movies kinda pointless.
[avatar]
This is great, Nothing else to add that hasn't been said already below. But HELL YEAH!
[avatar]
Hey there, email works for me, you can send to jasiegel AT wesleyan.edu once you've got your lyrics together. Excited to see what we'll come up with
[avatar]
No problem! February came fast. Hopefully songs will this year too
[avatar]
Hey Spike, I thought you looked familiar, I've probably seen you play in bands in Medway too. Hope you have a great FAWM!
[avatar]
Yeah sorry for the shit you had to go through. Maybe the only plus for me when I go through it, is good song material. Peace!!
[avatar]
Likewise!
[avatar]
And you
[avatar]
Following fellow UK based FAWMers, welcome, hope you have a great FAWM.

There are not that many of us.
[avatar]
Hey, glad to see you here again.

That's a Frankenstein Cocktail Kit.
I couldn't afford the Vintage Ludwig, Rogers and Slingerland cocktail kits or even the newer Yamaha Steve Jordan model.
All cheap eBay purchases from many years ago: I first bought the late 60 Kent vintage cocktail drum which had snare wires under the top head but did not include the bottom head/hoop.
So I ended up buying some no name Japanese Tom to put under it for the kick drum, the cocktail drum pedal Bracket and the Japanese no name Bongos all in red sparkle.
I use it a lot just for straight drum beats and have another set if I want to do more sophisticated stuff.
[avatar]
Hey man, hope you have a smashing FAWM!
[avatar]
@candle
Looking forward to your output this year! Thanks for the kind greetings.

See You In The Shadows…
[avatar]
You look like you are more than ready to rock. I definitely want some weird noise
[avatar]
@fuzzy
Aw, poor Bentley!
I used to have. a pet rabbit that I loved.
I sure miss that little guy.
Anyway, have a great FAWM!!
[avatar]
Wotcha Spike, if you're here we know the blues will be coming too.
Watching you with that diddley bow on Instagram made me realise my first guitar was one of them. I'd seen Jimi Hendrix on the Lulu Show, and with my adolescent mind blown had hammered two nails into a table, strung steel wire between them, got a pickup off a kid at school, plugged it into my mums old radio, and I was off. It didn't sound anything like Jimi so I broke it all up the next day!
[avatar]
Hey man! Nice to see you to, I'll look out for your tunes this FAWM!
