I spend my days as a lowly, back-office corporate attorney and as much of the rest of my time as possible in various creative endeavors. I try not to let my lack of talent get in the way of my love of songwriting, and I have been writing songs since before I had any kind of musical instruments or any recording gear, just writing lyrics and singing Beatles-esque oohs and aahs. But once I got a four track cassette recorder I was off to the races. I “upgraded” to a Korg digital recorder in the 1990s and eventually discovered Logic.

I set up my first semi-legit home studio in the early 2000s and dubbed it Squirrel Haven. Years later, I moved, and built Squirrel Haven 2 in my new residence. Quite recently I moved again and so Squirrel Haven Studios 3 is not yet properly set up, but I do the best I can out of my home office.

I discovered the Immersion Composition Society after its web-presence had mostly faded away, but was fortunate enough to be around for its facebook group resurgence during Covid. I participated in 10 or 11 ICS day sessions and you can find the songs I created during those sessions on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-850450512/tracks

I play many instruments with low proficiency but am almost competent on guitar and bass. I do what I can with virtual instruments. I’ve written sea shanties, funk and jazz instrumentals, reggae, and folk tunes, but most of my songs are in a pop or rock style, if they manage to rise to the level of being in a recognizable genre at all.

I use he/him pronouns.

got it through gmail. I'll try to clear the normal email path!

also, try timfatchen at gmail.com which I hardly use because it's a spam trap, though the attachment may be too big. I can always set up a dropbox joint for it.

ref the emails: check first that you're sending to timfatchen at flyingtadpole.com and NOT flyingtadpole.com.au Also, if you can post the bounce message on my soundboard; our ISP has ferocious spam filters.

Happy International Bagpipes Day!! (March 10th)
Who knew?! But, I’m always happy to celebrate the bagpipes! 😀

Picking up loose ends (ie pulling loose threads out and causing clothing to fall apart). It didn't click this was you first ever collab, because my mind was elsewhere, otherwise I would have shouted it in forums. Another thing too, though my mind was elsewhere: for future reference: any collab where you're putting music to lyrics, repost it as a new song. Two reasons: (1) you'll find it's unusual to leave lyric wholly intact when setting them, so that's an [excuse] for putting the song up anew, leaves the original lyric post intact. True, but an excuse really for (2) the song will be buried deep under the avalanche by the time you get the music done and recorded, so posting it anew means people SEE it in the flow of songs and more will come and comment. Most are not going to go through the back catalog, there isn't time usually until March, and most don't stick around. I think this song deserved lots more listens than it got. If eve rSquidcore The Musical (or an album) existed, this would be in it.

Ah! A squidge! You should be happy with this, I am! (so, so few of my lyrics ever get set by anyone, it's been years). Mind you, I would have loved a bouzouki in the mix! Excellent timing on the last spoken line too. Thanks!

Areyou able to set Calamari Rhymezone? (just asking while there's still time)
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you had fun listening to The Disconnected.
I agree that Logic has some pretty incredible soft synths! What I really like to do is mix them with a physical synth (when I have a lot of time), making for some truly unique blends. But just blending Logic Synths has gotten me to some amazing sounds as is. Wonderful software!

Thanks for the comments and the support! FAWM is perfect for some experimentation and new things, too. Gotta push those boundaries even if they're made of concrete.

And thank you for broadening my horizons! I don't know much Yiddish!

Thanks for the comment on 'Spark'!

You're on. I'll post the lyrics as a collab but lock it, just check that you can access and alter once it's up.
[avatar]
Okay. Calamari. Thanks for the comment AND the new squid song suggestion. I've written the lyrics just now, and half the rhymes are yours, so would you like to do the music/singing? Let me know and if so I'll post it as collab and pet you run. Gives an extra song in the list!

@kiffa
Thanks so much for your very kind comment on "Easter Sunday". Getting this song right was very important to me (to the point that after posting it, I went back and re-recorded the vocals when I realized that I got one of the facts wrong), so the positive feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks for the listen to my song, "Crazier than You." You noted, "there was a moment toward the last third of the song where I thought I heard the fiddle and liked the interplay of those two instruments. Was there more fiddle in the mix that I just didn't catch, or was it limited to that brief interlude?"

The fiddle actually comes in during the second verse of the song, playing backup / countermelody to the vocal / banjo, and plays to the end: it
"steps up to the mic" during the solo section after the second chorus, and then "steps back" for the remainder.

Hey! I'm Elisabeth. I live in Mansfield, former attorney, but now part-time songwriter, and part time student at Wheaton. Got something taking me away from FAWM until mid-month, but maybe we can collaborate some time (if not in February, some other time).

Thanks for the comment on my uke song! My first instrument was the classic guitar, which probably explains why I play the uke that way! 😄
