I'm a writer of science fiction, fantasy, and songs as well as a musician. I love cats and chocolate, and have a nice collection of acoustic instruments. My pronouns are zie/zir or she/her.

I can also be found as Wyld_Dandelyon on Twitter and DreamWidth, and on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Wyld_Dandelyon You can find a lot of my song lyrics there, and other creative stuff too.

I'm still learning about recording demos, with all due thanks to FAWM for those skills. I might post lyrics to Patreon before I have a demo. Or maybe not. But I've had a lot of fun experimenting with Bandcamp to make a song at least marginally presentable in a hurry, while it's still new and strange-to-me.

I don't have lots of skill with recording. I expect I'll still be doing a lot of acoustic one-takes. But I'm so very glad to be here!

[...]

2023 Sadly, my traditional FAWM userpic doesn't look at all good in this monochrome pea green I'm stuck with. I tried a bunch of different photos, and finally settled on a lovely portrait my sister Siobhan made of me during a filk circle at one of the Chicago cons. (But it would look a lot better in purple!)

FAWM History: I really should've added my total every year. But I didn't, so most of the years' totals are my best guess. I know I have (somewhere) the FAWM archive of songs and comments for at least some of these years; if I find those I will update the numbers.

2016 2 or 3

2017 3 or 4

2018 5 or 6

2019 7 or 8

2020 15 songs

2021 Update: It's been so great everybody. Wow--32 songs, and a bunch of song fragments besides. And I listened to so many songs too. SO MUCH MUSIC! Thanks, everybody!!!

2022 43 songs. I'm stunned! It's been so much fun.

2023 49 songs. And I still haven't written "I am the Anonymous Kracken". But seven 7s of songs shall have to be enough.

Nice to "see" you on Zoom tonight. Let me know the best ways to plug into FILK.
[avatar]
Hey Deirdre! Thanks so much for taking a listen to Rainbow! I loved recording this one and so glad you liked it. Congratulations to you on a stellar output this. My goodness,, the muses were with you big time. See you next year?
[avatar]
Thanks for the wonderful comments on my tunes! Looking forward to listening to yours -You had a prolific FAWM! Cheers!

@gb9
Thank you for your kind comments on "In A Swoop".
Full credit to you though, because the image of the Owl just made it happen. Also, I love owls so that too might have played a part in it capturing my attention, but it was a fun write and I loved it, thank you for the prompt.
[avatar]
I so glad you enjoyed Love is a Small Word, @wylddandelyon and had ideas for additions. Yes, chocolate, books, solitude, etc. It could be a very long song about a very small word :)
[avatar]
@nadine
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed the jam :)
[avatar]
@bootsylavox Thanks for the heads-up. I have fixed the soundcloud link. However, I had to switch to FAWM hosting partway through the month, so only some of my stuff is there.

I'm so sorry you have covid! Get well soon.
[avatar]
Good gravy, @wylddandelyon ,you are prolific! I will come back to listen when COVID leaves me alone. Meanwhile, just a heads up that the SoundCloud link in your bio isn't working for me. Ciao for now, Bootsy

@scubed
Thanks so much for all your song comments - I really appreciate it!

I live in high desert country, and there are tumbleweeds everywhere - they are the crabgrass of the West! They don’t care one way or another about snow, but they get reeeally excited when the wind picks up. 😆
[avatar]
Jumped on to say I’ve been busy with work the past couple days but I’ll get the tats I owe you shortly!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Hey there, and thanks kindly for the encouraging comments about Wishin Is Like Fishin and Sounds Like a Song.
[avatar]
@scubed
Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my songs!
[avatar]
Oh, my goodness! You've listened to five of my songs in a row. That's dedication. Thanks for sparing the time and putting your ears in harms way.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comments; much appreciated. 🙏 And congratulations on the astonishing FAWM win too. 🎆
[avatar]
Thanks again for all the comments throughout my first FAWM. I really appreciated them and found them encouraging.
[avatar]
thanks for all the great comments. glad you enjoyed!

@andrea
Thanks for your thoughtful and kind comments on These Haunted Dreams and Can't Resist.
[avatar]
Hi Deirdre. Thank you for your comments on Hollyhock Dolls. That wasn’t Tres singing though. It was his guitar, but my voice. I’m the one who hadn’t been able to sing all month. I still haven’t been able to sing the one I promised Nadia. Hers had two lines that are just too low until this cough clears up. Tres capoed his up for me so I was able to do a quick take on it.
[avatar]
I would take your bet, @wylddandelyon - If I ever was a One Hit Wonder, I'd be both thrilled and horrified, because I'm old enough to feel confident that fame is not only VERY overrated, but actually is often damaging (to self and relationships). So I'd enjoy the giddiness of having a hit, then I'd do nothing to attempt to repeat it. I'd want any fame to be truly fleeting, so I could quickly return to comfortable anonymity :)
[avatar]
Thanks for the visit earlier. The videos all have CC and I believe they're resizable by the viewer. I'll be back in a day or so to reciprocate your king #tit4tat s.
[avatar]
Thanks for sharing your interpretation of "Ruby." I've enjoyed hearing how people hear this song...some as if Ruby is a person (often with a story they imagine) and others as a bird (which is what, in my mind, I was describing -- a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird to be specific ). I deliberately wanted there to be some ambiguity and used human characteristics so it was subject to interpretation. I guess it's kind of a question for the listener: is this a person with bird-like behaviors or a personified bird? Neither interpretation is wrong, of course. Anyway, thanks for listening and for your comments.

@nadine
Thank you, I'm happy you enjoyed my fingerpicking on "Overjoyed". The song really fun to play on guitar.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind words on the song about my Dad - a tough one to write and perform, but so glad I finally did it! :-)
[avatar]
@johns
Thanks for your comments on The Wanderer. I've always wandered around the world so it's something that crops up in my songs quite a lot.
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out the draft of "Your Practical Magic" right after I posted it. You definitely helped shape my revisions. :)
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments ! I remember I last year I pretty much discovered you un march with tit4tat ! I hope I'lle see you then, because there are a bunch of your songs I didn't have the time to listen to yet.
[avatar]
Hi! I'm pinging you! I did the demo for Here I am. THanks for organizing that super skirmish!!
[avatar]
Thanks for kind words on A Drink of Water. The song is done, but we won’t get the chance to record it in time to post a full demo. That’s why just the lyrics and accompaniment. Running out of time! Looks like you’ve been busy this month! I’ll be back in March to do some listening. Hope you’re still around.
[avatar]
Pushy? 😃 No … seems like i was talking a bit to myself 😎🤣… just read your Story Challenge invitation in the forum … 😃 and i had to stop my muse …
[avatar]
Wow! You did 39 songs! Congrats!
And thanks for you note in the thread. To me it felt clear yesterday: the circle is closed for this Feb. I am so glad about my songs and my collabs.
… and thanks for your hint 😊🙏
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my songs "Take A Picture", "Losing Eternity" and "Dancing In My Dreams". Hey, I appreciate you visiting my page so often, I am just starting back to commenting again. What SF/Fantasy do you write? Long, short stories or poems?
[avatar]
Wow, thank you Diedre, for your generous gift of music! I love the direction you took the lyrics!
[avatar]
@jamkar
Thank you for your knowledgeable listen to our video collab!
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on Haunted Forest :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for the nice comments :)
[avatar]
No I do not and would love one!!! You? I would be delighted!
[avatar]
Thanks for reminding me to add hashtag BLADE to the post.
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Listening In".
[avatar]
Admittedly, it was a pretty safe bet.
[avatar]
@wylddandelyon Hi! Thanks for the skirmish info. What a songwriting powerhouse you are!
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind note on New Relationship Energy, @wylddandelyon!
[avatar]
@siasa
Hey, thanks for checking in on my song! I totally recommend the book - I wouldn't say vampire novels are my usual genre, but it's much more than a straight-up horror.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to my Shut the Front Door, and your kind comment on my lyric!
[avatar]
Thanks a lot for your hint ... this topic is not easy to talk about even if you speak in the same language - so it is much more difficult if you use different ones. What I meant wasn´t a trans person, I meant a male person with female parts or/and a nonbinary man. Yes, I think the term nonbinary comes closest to what I mean.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on several of my songs! I've fallen a little behind in my listening, but plan to catch up soon. Looking forward to hearing what you've come up with this year☺️.
[avatar]
It will be there at 6 CT!
[avatar]
HI just woke up and am preparing 😄 it's morning over here
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Swept Away". Ooh, you are getting so close to your trophy!! So exciting!!
[avatar]
Thanks a lot! 🤗
[avatar]
Thanks for the story recommendation!
[avatar]
@kirjis
Thanks for your nice comment!
[avatar]
@cjk
Thanks for your help. "In Giants' Hands" is now up on my page.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to "Flaming June" and leaving me the note about the ice breaking up. Fascinating -- I didn't know that!
[avatar]
Hi! Did you get the email I sent? I want to make sure it didn't end up in the spam folder. 😊
[avatar]
Hey that's grand! I've not been involved in a superskirmish before so is there anything I need to do differently?
[avatar]
@cjk Regarding "Giant arms hold me, a Giant enfolds me, a Giant cradles/cuddles me near, where Giants hold me dear"

Yes, that works. I'd be tempted to start with "a Giant's arms hold me" or make the middle "Giant hearts enfold me, Giants cradle (or cuddle) me" just to make the pattern hold ("a giant" or "giants"), but what you have is absolutely perfect English, so it's your artistic choice as to whether to do the grammatical agreement thing or not.
[avatar]
@cjk
Wow, you're busy, I'm so impressed. Thanks for comments on my songs, and "Am I Beautiful?" now has music. And thank you for volunteering to correct my English, I try not to abuse that offer. But I already have a question, does this work?
"Giant arms hold me, a Giant enfolds me, a Giant cradles/cuddles me near, where Giants hold me dear"
[avatar]
@manuel
Thank you for your kind words on my sunfish song, I'm glad you liked it.
[avatar]
Thank you for listening to "Flaming June" -- I feel lucky to have heard the story about the ice thawing in loud explosions. What an image!
[avatar]
In life it's those rare harmonies we miss the most. Glad you appreciated the sentiment in "haunted" thanks for checking it out!
[avatar]
Thank you so much for listening to "Days of Kohl and Rosaries" and leaving me some encouragement. :)
[avatar]
Thank you so much for the comment on (or: additional lore to) "Space Incidents"! So creative, so quirky, I love it! Thank you!
[avatar]
FYI - the demo is now up for Rooftop Dragon!
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to my song "Relentless Olive". It really is just about a woman who is relentless in her quest to be successful, the man falls for her, but she doesn't have time for him.
[avatar]
Thank you for the skirmish, and feel free to add music if you decide you'd like to :) It went darker than I expected, but I already have a Grumpy Dragon song and a Dragon Rider's song, (from earlier years) so I guess this one just felt the need to appear. ;)
[avatar]
Yeah, there's something weird going on with the stream. Fixing it!
[avatar]
@gavran
I am available most days, except for the 15 from late afternoon onwards and this extended week-end. It mostly depends on what's convenient for you.
Tomorrow in the CET evening?
[avatar]
@gavran
Oops, missed the skirmish.
What are all my excuses good for if I *really* miss the skirmish, and have no need for them?

Filkhaven has grown far too large for me, so I rarely venture there beyond #schedules, I'll admit. Zoom would be all right, though, and I'm available most times (as defined in CET) these days; I really am on medical leave, and for most of February at that! (It's not all it's cracked up to be, though, when you *really* need said leave...)
[avatar]
@gavran
Thank you, Deirdre.
And any advice would be welcome, be it about recording or hosting.
I've seen discussions about it in the forum, but that was still a "first world problem" for me at the time...
[avatar]
Thank you for your thoughtful comments on "Twenty Years," you really got the feeling I was going for. I really appreciate it!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your kind words about Wild Heart!
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for your comment on "Pay it forward". If you're curious I just updated the song so we have some vocals now :)
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on Temple of temptation - I hadn't thought of it from that perspective but I love it!
[avatar]
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment on "Devils on the Trampolines of Hell" -- I'm really glad that pick/strum transition between verse and chorus worked for you!
[avatar]
You mentioned you might be interested in collaborating as a couple of Mary's ( or Maeve's Moira'/etc.). I would love that! I would be able to do that in the third week of FAWM. (There is some travel in my near future which is why it wouldn't be sooner.)

Much love,
Mary
[avatar]
Thank you so much for your lovely comments.
I am working towards spinning the narrative around, but I so appreciate your acknowledgement that it takes time to get there, and that every song can be what it needs to be. <3
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind and respectful comment. Maybe I make spoken word version out of the german poem … i ‚ll think about this.
[avatar]
Thanks for giving me a listen earlier!
[avatar]
Hi, Deirdre! Looking forward to whatever you come up with!
[avatar]
Thank you! I'm thinking of adding more vocal harmonies to "the moon" so I'm glad that bit worked... And I love that "hey my muse" got you singing! 💖
[avatar]
Keep that ball rolling! And Happy FAWMing :)
[avatar]
Yay! Glad to see you back again Deirdre! Have a great FAWM!
[avatar]
@mikkel
Hi Deirdre
You explained what FAWM is to me late night at an online filk some months ago, so I am giving this a try. Thank you. Michael.
[avatar]
@gavran
Hi, Deirdre,
I had not realised inflation had hit you that hard! May its power be concentrated on FAWM this year again...
See you some upcoming circle!
[avatar]
I just saw your guitar in the new gear thread and gossssshhhh she's gorgeous!

Happy FAWMming!
