Dreams
Liner Notes
Lyrics
When I was young I had big dreams but I have changed or so it seems
My pride it came before my fall My dreams were big but now they’re small
I’m never going to get the girl I won’t get rich, no social whirl
I just can’t move I’m in a stall My dreams were big but now they’re small
When all my life is full of holes I can’t achieve those lofty goals
When nothing seems to work at all I change my dreams so now they’re small
It isn’t that I never tried, but my ambition’s sorta died
I somehow ran into a wall My drams have shrunk so now they’re small
So my advice to all of you, Your dreams aren’t ever coming true
If you can’t win by standing tall Just change your deams from big to small

@catmisgivings
this is relatable? didn't we all want to be president and pitch for the yankees and be a veterinarian astronaut when we were like, 8? and then when it's time to pay back the college loans it's like, oh, i need to both make rent and eat. this song is kind of a mood ring in that you can read the lyrics either through the lens of disappointment or, you know, why not dream up something achievable and do that and feel the accomplishment in that?

The somewhat melancholy tone matches these lyrics so well. I also really like the message and the concept of small achievable dreams rather than big dreams that are hard to attain. The melody is so engaging - and the lyrical pacing where every other word is held longer is really lovely.
