I decided to give myself the challenge of writing three honky tonk songs. Here's one about a downy woodpecker's unrequited love for his sweetheart.
Lyrics
Chorus:
Geraldine, Geraldine
I keep on knocking, but I’m stuck here in between
Geraldine, Geraldine
Sitting here waiting, waiting to be seen
I hear your drummin’
It’s got me hummin’
The sweetest song I know
The sweetest little song that I know
Well it can’t be for nothin’
When I saw you blushin’
I almost hit the floor
Then you turned and flew right out the door
[Chorus]
It’s sink or swim
Go out on a limb
The sun is going down
Thinkin’ you and I could hit the town
Oh we’d dance to the shuffle
Get our feathers ruffled
We’d surely have a ball
But I’m just banging my head against the wall
[Chorus]

Great song that perfectly captures the classic country western sound. This would be right at home on Live at Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. Love that shuffling drum.
EDIT: I just rode the bus to work and was humming this all the way. It catchy and lasting!
