David G Harrington

I am a native Irishman living in the Uk for the past 37 years. I have escaped, I am officially retired. Should be able to do a bit more this year and am as ever looking forward to meeting some new people, some old friends and some new and interesting collaborations.

Releasing stuff under the name Machine Soul Collective now.

Feeling quite productive at the moment and have a lot of subjects to write about.

Happy to collab in any way you need, recording engineering mastering, singing, bassisting, music to lyrics, lyrics to music.

Hit me up if I can help in any way and I am always looking for singers who would like to try one of my songs.

Peace to all and very happy and productive FAWMing

Looking forward to working with some of you lovely folks again this year.

Hello again,

Thanks for your comment on my fifth FAWM song Shadow (Are You There?)

https://write.fawm.org/songs/285628

This is another one I'll eventually put music to, but I'm not entirely satisfied with the final lyrics yet. I'm glad we get told to "Just FAWM It" with our songs, otherwise I'd be stuck in a loop for days, trying to make a lyric perfect before posting it.
[avatar]
Hi David, Thanks for your comment on my second FAWM song Smile and Wave

https://write.fawm.org/songs/285626

I'm looking forward to musicifying this one after FAWM as I think I want to change the first verse to be more ambiguous.

Hopefully some more folks will leave feedback, but we're all busy trying to hit the target and say thanks while living our regular lives. I envy those who can take Feb off to focus on FAWM 12 hrs a day !!

An bhfuil tu Gaelgoir? Is mise Eireanach, ach labhraim Gael go dona. Tá me i mo chonai i Catalunya.
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "Bread is Better Than Music" -- it helped encourage me to get to the music.
[avatar]
I bought Look Sharp when it was first released after seeing Joe Jackson on OGWT. Loved it immediately so maybe I was subconsciously channeling that!
[avatar]
We're doin' fine! 😄
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen and comment on "Girls with Black Hearts"!
[avatar]
Thanks for your well wishes, I’ll pass them on to my mom in the ICU. She’s the patient, I’m the visitor.
[avatar]
Thanks for the music!!
[avatar]
"Man on the Moon" says thanks for the listen.
[avatar]
Congrats on the win, David. I’ve fallen behind on quite a few tasks, but I’ll be back for listens later this week.
[avatar]
Thanks for checking out "It's Hard"--you're probably right about people just being generally angry at all times, wether I'm there or not. Haha.
[avatar]
ooo cool!
[avatar]
Thanks! I listened very quickly and softly between meetings as I am work - I love what I heard but can’t wait to get home tonight to listen properly and will share with her on Valentine’s Day! A million thanks for your generous gift of gorgeous music! If possible can you email me the MP3? Liz
[avatar]
Yes! I would love that! Thank you!!’
[avatar]
Interesting find on black keys, pentatonic etc. will have to have an investigate.... And have a play over Superstition 😁
[avatar]
What key (Ecstasy), good question! Having never tried a song this way, I found it hard in one way to come up with chords, although once I got going any black key in almost any order sounded fine....still working on my music theory though 😆
[avatar]
Thanks mate. Its just been one of those days today. New guitar day tomorrow though so that's something. And hopefully Wales can put in a good showing against England
[avatar]
Thanks again, David for taking on "Not really Sure". Cheers!
[avatar]
Have fun! xxx m
[avatar]
Thank you for listening to "Did You Really Think That Would Get You Laid?"! Glad to be providing some education (and I'm guessing gratitude!) to the married haha! And appreciate the reference to Victoria Wood, I don't know her and will check her out!!
[avatar]
Hey David. Thanks for your comment on Just an Ilusion. I'll have to listen to more of your songs -- you're getting pretty close to winning!
[avatar]
Thanks for the encouragement on "Have a Heart (Leave Me Mine)." :)
[avatar]
I usually go by Carl B. The first letter of my surname for credit purposes.
[avatar]
Hey, that's fine on the editing. I'm flexible.
[avatar]
Hey, Thanks for commenting on Not Really Sure. I'd be very happy to have your talents put music to the words. Please do!
[avatar]
Thank you for your Miss Kitty Blues comments. Cheers
[avatar]
I'm jealous! I've just posted a lyric, it has a tendency towards an Irish lilt, I feel. I have sent it to Hannah Busse, but it suits a male perspective. It's called Do You Think Of Me Often, Or Never No More.
[avatar]
Great first week for you Dave :-)
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "Dig Me Up" -- I am sure I keep writing around the experience of loss because it is so connected to the experience of love. Like joy and sorrow, you can't know what one feels like as fully without experiencing the other (paraphrased from Thich Nhat Hanh).
[avatar]
You seem to assume I am a Yank. Like you I am an Irishman, but living in Catalunya. If the choice of the American President merely affected the USA, then let them sink in their own morass if they vote for a person who has no human values I can think of. But, of course, what happens there ends up affecting the rest of us.

My antipathy to him has nothing to do with his being a Republican (a party he only picked up on later in life when he couldn't get the Democrats to back him). It has everything to do with not handing supreme power to a pale excuse for a human being, who represents everything that is wrong about the human race.

Read what I wrote again about him. Can you justify any of it? The man is a power hungry liar who couldn't tell the truth if life depended on it. He has zero empathy (a dangerous quality in any leader) and zero respect for what is left of democracy in the USA. I cannot see how any decent human being could even consider him for a major role in his country, let alone as its leader.
[avatar]
thank you for the comment on "You Paint The Color In My Life" - I appreciate it and hope she enjoys it as well!
[avatar]
I agree with you that Biden is no saint either. In the upcoming election race, he should have stepped aside and allowed a younger more charismatic person to stand for the Democrats. Because if not, the USA might just be about to elect their very own Caligula. Trump is obviously a psychopath and lacks any empathy at all. In any other country on earth the day he mocked a disabled journalist would have been the day he lost all credibility. He is also a fan of Putin, Kim Jong Un and other dictators. That alone should be enough warning to Americans.
[avatar]
Ok. If you have time

Hey! Thanks for the comments on Charlie’s Angels. Looks like you’re having a productive FAWM 2024! All the best.
[avatar]
Thanks for noticing my typo this morning, Wale upgently sounds like some kind of sea shanty 😊
[avatar]
Thanks for your work on Unbalanced Reality. Sounds great.
I'm Christopher Castle for any credits. Thanks.
[avatar]
i dont remember exactly, but it is some variation of the D - G- A chords, with a capo on one of the frets, i forget which. the original idea of the album was to use these same chords in every song but with the capo on a different fret. and all of the songs were improvised so i cant tell you what goes where and when, but if you start on the d..go to the g when a change is neccessary and then to the A for resolution and return to the D, and find which key is best for your voice by trying out the cao on different frets. if that doesnt work, let me know,a nd i will do my best to relive and reconstruct the song.
[avatar]
Dreamy decadence indeed! Thanks for listening.
[avatar]
all my stuff is super melodic. i just downplay it. now what about a rocky version. do you want to rip it up. if so, you can add some more personal lyrics to it if you like
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on "Know you were my friend". It was much appreciated.
[avatar]
Hi, @daveyboy. Glad you enjoyed Firefly with David Taro. He really did come through, didn't he? (No surprise!) Thanks for your comment.
[avatar]
Yeah, I quickly learned that where my own vocal was bad the ai vocal was also bad. Interestingly it was at the end of the first line and third line of each verse where I go up half a tone (probably not in the key of B). When I brought my vocal into melodyne it shifted that note down half a tone. That is where the ai vocal goes wobbly. I am definitely going to give it another go, maybe with a better melody.
[avatar]
Wow!!! You created such a wonderfully flowing song with Over and Over!!! I absolutely love your melody and vocals - and the music is fabulous! You captured the sentiment so perfectly! Thank you!!!!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on Opposing Forces. Yes, it came out a little to easily so have a challenge now as the rest will probably all sound more sane compared 😅
[avatar]
Going back a while Dougs' lyrics teased me into singing a couple of his and that's rare!
[avatar]
Awesome and cool that you have been able to escape and have retired.
Thanks for your comments - I picked up the Zoom R24 in Jan. I think the original owner bought it new in 2013. I need to learn how to use it more as I am normally a full on DAW guy. I recorded the acoustic guitar using the built in mic and a £16 Behringer dynamic mic.
[avatar]
TYSM for listening to my Cruise Ship activities song! Glad you found it funny - and insightful haha!
[avatar]
They hate us: yes sums up my feelings too
[avatar]
Hi, yes, I'd love for you to work on that one
Thanks
[avatar]
I was born with the optimist gene, so hopefully I pass that down. Thanks for the words of encouragement!
[avatar]
I've added you as a collaborator on Unbalanced Reality. Thanks for this.
[avatar]
i think it is grumpiness more than the physical aging that turns the young buck into the old man. there is a point, nonetheless, when one must admit to having become an old man, yet even then, the connection to ones youth always must remain.
[avatar]
Thank you, sir. I'll be by shortly for some listenin' n' groovin'!
[avatar]
Thanks for your great comments Dave!
[avatar]
Yea! Yes! My first FAWM 2024 collab! Thank you!!
[avatar]
I could just tell you were bursting to express your feelings on that one.
[avatar]
Thanks, you too - was great to collab last year. Hit me up if you fancy it again :)
[avatar]
If you'd like to take a shot at setting up a whole arrangement of Unplanned, I'd happily sing melody and harmony vocals on it.
[avatar]
thanks Dave, i'll be watching more than doing
[avatar]
Spent lots of time with him
[avatar]
Thank you for your message, David. It helps in rough times like this to know somebody cares. In a hopeless situation that worsens everyday, love and faith are our sole protection from madness.
[avatar]
Ohhhh… I am really hoping you will find some lyrics you would like to bring to life … and I look forward to your music!
[avatar]
