The Trans Agenda

by @daveescoffery

Liner Notes

The fact that certain factions in our society are using trans people as a scapegoat (and that so many are following along blindly) would baffle and offend me even if I didn't have so many trans people in my life, people I know and love. It's easy to demonize a group that's already marginalized, but the glee that so many people take in doing so is just heartbreaking. So I wrote this little protest song to explain to folks what the "trans agenda" really is.

Lyrics

Verse 1
I know you've heard it on the news
That trans people are coming for you.
They want to convert your kids
And overrun public bathrooms.
They're dominating all women's sports
(Which you care SO much about, of course).
It's a contagion that must be stopped.
We can't just let it run its course.

Chorus
You're worried about the trans agenda
And I understand your fear,
Cuz there are things about the trans agenda
That might not be very clear.
If you want to understand the trans agend
There's just one thing you need to know:
There's only one part to the trans agenda,
And that's to live a decent life, and so...
You have nothing to fear.

Verse 2
You've been told it's even worse than it sounds,
That you should get offended at pronouns.
If you go by a nick-name, that's totally fine,
But a trans kid changing theirs is just out of bounds.
Schools are now sites of indoctrination,
Kids forced into what you're calling mutilation,
Or schools pushing hormones like they're candy
And leaving parents out of the equation.

Bridge
Why do you care so much what's in someone else's pants?
What's in someone else's pants
What's in someone else's pants?
Think about it.

Nice and needed! The only agenda I've ever know from my surprisingly numerous trans friends as been a desire for continued friendship and a normal everyday happy life.

Love how the happy tune grates against the angry lyrics. Nice work.

Spot on. Everyone - okay, nearly everyone - is just a decent person trying to get on with their life. And all set to a jaunty uke tune too! I wish I had the courage to sing songs like this more visibly.

Also that bridge is great because it really makes the ridiculousness so clear.

Great song & thanks for keeping it real Dave! šŸ˜Ž Amen to just trying to live a decent life.

This song has such a cheerful vibe with its happy go lucky uke and bouncy melody - what a contrast with the content. The womenā€™s sports slant rhyme with your parenthetical ā€œof courseā€ dig was just perfect. Thank you for using your cis-het white male privilege to sing out in support of the entire trans community. They shall not be erased.

Thanks for your spot-on song, this support from everyone is absolutely critical because we are, in fact, a tiny minority and absolutely cannot survive this alone.

You, your uke, and lyrics are wonderful ā¤ļø

(unfortunately, other people living a decent life seems to be thought of as a zero-sum game for every transphobic racist fascist out there, so they clearly do fear it)

First of all video looks great and you sound awesome, both vocal and guitar. And second, I'm totally with you. Wonderful, necessary song!

Thanks for a sobering reminder of troubled times. Trans persons are often the butt of the joke, or a scapegoat to be scared of. My experience is that the average are mostly getting on with their life, wanting to live their lives without resistance or drama like many of us all. You get it right with the line "to live a decent life".
