Heathens Are Heroes

by @disarming

Liner Notes

Wrote these lyrics on the three hour drive to Ann Arbor. (I wasn't driving)

I know. I know. i keep saying the same things in all my songs. Peace and love this. Read books and dance that. But who cares. that's what I'm all about. A middle age hippy-Punk anarcho-mystic whatever. I'm so sick of negativity and doubt.

In this song I made up a term godful heathens. because I'm so sick of the division of this and that. I think all people are generally good but we are all capable of being very bad and nothing is going to change if we keep hating the other. We seriously need to change the trajectory, like right now.

I'm also seeing a lot of FAWMers writing very similar themes this year. We don't need to be specific about what we don't approve of but we do need to be deliberate about our present actions.

love you all. Keep being excellent to each other.

Lyrics

It's not so bad. It’s only the worst dream we’ve ever had.
Let’s go back to sleep and wake up unafraid comrade.

Tear down alters, smash idols. Let’s melt down all the gold.
We know that their time’s short when money is their god.

Ignore the lies. We’ll live free with smiles and open eyes.
They can try, but peaceful resistance will pacify.

Tear down alters, smash idols. Let’s melt down all the gold.
We know that their time’s short when money is their god-

-full heathens are heroes. Countdown to zero.
Fight with tools and logic. We’ll wear them down with love

-your neighbor. Do favors and break this spell of greed.
Our hearts filled with hope and peace is all we need.

love how the chorus starts in over the end of the verses. it sounds reallly cool. nice instrumental interludes too.
as for repeated themes - i was telling myself the other day if it's ok for picasso to paint a whole bunch of paintings of a bird in a windowpane then it's ok for a lot of my songs to sound annoyingly similar to eachother.

@heid
What a satisfying and full mix. And your folk punk vocals are peak. The screams scratch itches in my ribcage.

Also, I really appreciate the holy themes mixed in with resistance and folk punkness. I've been hanging with some radical religious folk recently, and a quaker minister friend of mine recommended the band Psalters, an old christian anarchist folk punk band from philly. This feels like it swims in the same river as that.

I can get behind this message #FolkPunk! Energetic, poetic, and that accordion sounds soooo good!
That chorus is really catchy.

This refrain hits hard here. The accordion is such a great touch! You play the hell out of that guitar - incredible rhythms at a breakneck speed. This is so good.

This is awesome! The slowdown at the end is very effective. And I love the vocals, great energy!

Terrific energy, tremendous urgency. Feels like you keep saying these things because they're important things to say!

Wow, I really find the lyrics on point. Also love the music especially that you have used an accordion.

Love this energy. Love speed of it too, and then the half time parts really stand out. Great instrumentation. This is cool. It's like folk punk.
