Liner Notes

So when I saw the prompt "Magic" my first thought was, we could use some right now (I'm in the US) but then I thought, we can't count on some deus ex machina solution. We're going to have to solve this ourselves. That led me to imagine someone hoping for Gandalf or a genie to grant us three wishes - and someone else saying "Snap out of it, it's up to us." For some reason, it became metal. Not my usual style, so it's pretty raggedy, but you get the idea.

There’s a darkness on the land
Unchained evil in the streets
The heartless monsters that we read about.
I can hear their marching feet.

Maybe we should have seen it coming
Maybe we could’ve done more
But those questions are a luxury
In the middle of a war.

We’re not living in a fairy tale
There’s no wizard in the clouds
There’s no prophet from antiquity
To help us figure it out.

You’ve gotta make your own magic
You’ve gotta make your own light
No point in waiting for a hero
We gotta fight our own fight

Oh I know just what you’re talking bout
I’ve read those books before
But it’s time to put those childish things away
When the dragon’s at the door.

If it helps you to use metaphors
To understand these desperate days
Tell me about it while we’re on the way
To help them man the barricades!

Rock on Pete! I want to hear this with some killer bass riffs added and doubled Ozzy style Vox!

Beautifully written and performed song. Great rocking vibes. Love it.

The lyric is very well written. A stirring call to arms, urging listeners not to be passive or to deny what's happening. Finger-pointing is futile: "Maybe we could have done more/But those questions are a luxury/In the middle of a war." It's a joy to hear intelligent, committed hard rock.

This definitely has a classic, old school metal sound to it. A feeling of old doom, which I worship. Love the groove and the crunchy guitar tone.

I can say little except echo those who have gone beore. Love the chaos of this - the heavy music really does suit the time we're in - some awesomely appropriate lyrics too. :-)

The rather over the top drums are so awesome. Chaotic, much like the state of the world… damn right we need to make our own magic!!

"Those questions are a luxury in the middle of a war" Bravo, friend, bravo. I'm loving the doom metal vibes here, I think the band Sleep would happily play this.

I dig the metal, rock vibe going here. Very apropos in my thoughts. You really do have to make your own magic and keep on going despite the ugly things going on around the world and at home these days. This could mean a lot of different things, just depends on the context and perspective.

ha, fantastic idea and really executed well! its funny, I did this skirmish as well and had somewhat similar ideas about applying it all to the larger stuff happening out there, and how we have to be our own magic. (lol. great minds think alike!) love that rockin music you have for this, too, fits the lyric well!)

Nice metal beat.

We’re not living in a fairy tale
There’s no wizard in the clouds
There’s no prophet from antiquity
To help us figure it out.

Is a killer verse.

Great metaphor for the state of our world. Perfect music for your well written lyrics!

Wow!! Music voice and lyrics! The message is recieved!
This sounds like a tug of war song, but it has got a positive twist in it: we gotta make our own magic, we gotta fight our onw fight. So it’s not calling to go out for war 😄
