Liner Notes

Nyxie:
So much thanks to @orinthebard for these cards. I wanted to do their Storytelling Card Challenge the moment I saw the cards.
I got The Watchful Warrior, The Werewolf and The Ghost in the Graveyard. From the title, you know who stole my heart.
I heard bits and pieces of this song just looking at the cards, and then when I sat down to write, the idea of a graveyard that kills people was too hard to ignore. The Warrior and Werewolf are bit players.
The ghost is the one to watch out for.
This is her space. Be careful and stay out of her reach.

The Ghost:
I see you.
I see you crouched there, just out of my reach.
I saw the moment you figured out what I was doing.
And now I hear your insufferable waltzing piano helping you sing about it.
At least you make it sound pretty.
At least you used the right words to describe what has happened here.
Watch yourself, little Violet.
If you tell my stories falsely, my reach lengthens.

Lyrics

The ghost in the graveyard sees all
The wind in the shadows moans
The stories you thought you had buried
The ghost in the graveyard knows

Ann was a scholarly maiden
So drawn and so prim in her prime
Faithfully studying headstones
Claimed by the frost's deadly rime

Claire was free in her thirties
Having shed the gold weight from her hand
Her heart never stuttered at howls
So she paid the were's bloody demand

The ghost in the graveyard sees all
The wind in the shadows moans
The stories you thought you had buried
The ghost in the graveyard knows

The warrior watches the pathway
Stalwart and still in their might
They know the price on the headstones
No one survives a whole night

The ghost in the graveyard sees all
The wind in the shadows moans
The stories you thought you had buried
The ghost in the graveyard knows

Meg was a lover of flora
Petals and stamens and trees
She bent her head close to examine
Where she drowned in a tangle of leaves

Vi adored all things macabre
She watched from just outside the gate
Discovered the steep cost of entrance
Now this song she has dared to create

The ghost in the graveyard sees all
The wind in the shadows moans
The stories you thought you had buried
The ghost in the graveyard knows

I like the melody and vocal delivery. "prim in her prime" is a great phrase.

I love all these stories, and the soaring vocal line is great - I could see this in a creepy musical. My favorite lyric is "Having shed the gold weight from her hand."

I kinda want there to be a musical now... 😜

Very cool and operatic way to create a great story out of the cards, even the minor ones. Also beautifully composed and performed.

Ooooh, delightfully haunting! This is a great take on the prompt, it's a really compelling story!
