The Three Shards
Chapter 12: But Wait, There's More

The group of them, Leatherwood, Ri, Double, Lydia and Cutty congregate with others at the Policemen’s Lodge in honor of Spassky. After a sullen memorial, they mingle.

Double struggles with the duality of Lydia – she is herself but is also a vessel for Jelly’s soul. Who’s he talking to? He doesn’t know. He can’t tell. Sounds like Lydia’s voice but sometimes it feels like Jelly.

Meanwhile, Benito slips through the crowd and passes a note to Mrs. Leatherwood. It’s a message for her found at the Hotel. “Carpathia. Nekropol. Tonight.”

I thought I was watching a movie for a few minutes. Maybe the intro credits music along a dark road?

This has a great '80s vibe to it. I particularly like the section beginning at about 0:38. The ending is also eerily nice. Really well done.

The awkward tension in the opening notes is palpable - a fusion of so many characters, each with complex souls and a tangled narrative of past interactions behind them. There's a ponderousness to the music, but one that reflects urgency and the quick thinking of a mind that is anything but clear.

Then there's a stealthy shift - the little percussive shuffling at 1:20 has a wonderful whispering cloak-and-dagger aesthetic to it, which transports me to the very footsteps of Benito. Such intrigue. I can almost read the handwriting of the note, which is pregnant with signifiance, like the announcement of an impending naval battle.

Great warbly sound to open, like the process is a blur to fathom, then the drums heat up the action.

oh yeah right away I get the 80's vibe and start thinking about Stranger Things. Cool vibe.

There is something eerie and mystically attractive about the soundscape and chord progression. Its something that I just can't let go. This is a bliss to my ears, and I know a friend who would appreciate this even more.
