I was at my #LARP this weekend, where the 'Dance of Colors' happens every 'Lover's Day' ball during our February events. Dancers wear ribbons denoting their interest in romance, but in my mind, I was seeing many #queer young people spinning on the dance floor with each other feeling such joy, wearing all those colors of the many and diverse Pride flags.
There were tears in my eyes, as I thought of how there are people out there that will force us all to put the colors away. Such beauty being created, and so fragile.
Lyrics
The Dance of Colors
Jemma Kline
The dance of colors is always on my mind.
I see the pretty rainbows everywhere.
There’s girls kissing girls, and boys who dance with boys,
And some become the other if they dare.
Stripes of pink and blue,
Some of orange hue,
Strands of white and yellow and of green.
With the black and brown,
Someday will be found
Those whose colors we have yet to see.
The dance of colors is spinning on the floor,
With ribbons woven in the evening gowns.
A room of lovers, a night that’s filled with joy,
With the freedom of the innocence of now.
Stripes of pink and blue,
Some of orange hue,
Strands of white and yellow and of green.
With the black and brown,
Someday will be found
Those whose colors we have yet to see.
But the ribbons come undone,
They’re fading with the sun,
And none can hide their secrets in the day.
I see they’re fraying,
And some are saying,
It’s time to put the colors all away.
Stripes of pink and blue,
Some of orange hue,
Strands of white and yellow and of green.
With the black and brown,
Never will be found
The stripes whose colors we have yet to see.
