For the "32nd Page" skirmish. The challenge was to pick up the closest book to hand, look at the 32nd page, and write a song inspired by it. The book that was nearest to my hand was Carrie, by Stephen King, and page 32 is the middle of an interview with a woman who was Carrie's next-door neighbor when Carrie was a three-year-old child.

Lyrics

Capo 2

Verse 1
Am
Little girl with eyes so bright
Em
And hair as blonde as frost
F
What happened to that little girl
E
Who became a little girl lost

Such a precious baby
Such a lovely child
Such an innocent destroyed
By a momma harsh and wild

CHORUS
F G
She was such a pretty girl
Am
Oh, you’d never know today
F G
Such an angel, such a gift
Am
The papers never say
F G
She was just a little girl
Am
She was just a child
F
I wish I could have saved her
E E7
Meek and mild

Verse 2
The little girl with eyes so bright
Went to her closet bare
Begging as her momma said
To clean her soul with prayer

But then the stones came whistling
Down through the air so clear
Crashing through her momma’s house
Smashing through her fear

CHORUS

Verse 3
You’d never know it now, today
To see her in the news
They’ve painted her a murderer
Who’s valid to abuse

You never saw that pretty child
Whose momma raged in hate
You never saw her crying
You never saw her fate

CHORUS

Verse 4
And now the little girl is dead
With four hundred and more
Pushed beyond her sanity
And evening the score

A little girl no longer
And raging in her hate
How could this be prevented?
How can we prevent this fate?

CHORUS

OUTTRO
F
I wish I could have saved her
E E7
Meek and mild
F E E7
I wish I could have saved her
Am
That little child

Wonderful playing and love the story playing. Well done

Great storytelling and I agree that your performance brings across the tragedy of what happened to this little girl. I especially like the outro with the repetition of "I wish I could have saved her." Great skirmish!

I really like your vocal performance here; it's so full of sympathy, of sadness, it completely sells the tragic lyrics and makes the listener really invested in the story. It is very affecting!
