This is for a sidefight over at songfight.org. Mo is hosting a fight where you write to a title and he picks one to send some sort of prize. This one is a cool guitar pedal, I think. We're not in it for the prizes, but they tend to be cool, so...

I spent all day on this and it isn't what I intended when I started but I don't hate it, so count that as a success. I probably shouldn't post this yet, but no-one's likely to hear it before tomorrow.

Lyrics

They call her a witch
Some kind of bitch
'Cause she doesn't care for their authority
They call her names
She won't play their games
She violates their conformity

So I confessed my love
To a girl who doesn't care
But she will never judge
No, she will not compare

That's when she said
Fix your heart or die
That's when she said
Fix your heart or die

They called her a punk
Said she was drunk
They don't like to see her purple hair
They say she's strange
She refuses to change
She will not partake in their despair

So I confessed my love
To a girl who doesn't care
But she will never judge
No, she will not compare

That's when she said
Fix your heart or die
That's when she said
Fix your heart or die

It seems like Salem on a smaller scale
Her innocence seems an overlooked detail
But no-one likes what they don't understand
And she won't bow down to their demands

That's when she said
Fix your heart or die
That's when she said
Fix your heart or die
That's when she said
Fix your heart or die

Also put up on the SF forums:

Nice punky guitar, enjoy the leading tone in the turnaround on the that's what she said, nice perk up to the ears
Solid guitar tones, nice slightly overdriven vocal
Good use of repetition in the "they call her" lines in the verses.
Good driving energy in this, nice details on the purple hair.
Really hooky melody in the chorus. The double on the fix your heart or die part is solid. I'm really dying for a harmony vocal line or two on the main part of the chorus, I think it would sound cool and fill out that part in a nice way, maybe just on the 2nd chorus onwards
Desert rock solo works nicely
Key change for the bridge? I couldn't quite tell.
Nice solos
Solos sounded a little buried in the mix for my taste at the listening party but they sound fine on the mp3 listening now, so maybe it was some youtube shennanigans. Nice song.

Lynch fan much?! Such a great line to build a song around. This is a really fun blast of a song. The bits are all really fun and memorable. It feels like you make each bit distinct without really altering the dynamics. Love that wonky descending riff, and you don't overuse it too, which I would have been tempted to do. Yes, its kind of new wavey, but kind of through an Incesticide filter. It's a bunch of fun. The soloing is very fun at the end too, I wish I could do that kind of noodle.

Checking out the competition...!

Love the post-punky vibe to this - guitars sounding rightfully big and chunky. A great take on the prompt too. The melody's super strong, particularly on the pre-chorus, which just takes off! The chorus melody/chords didn't go the way I expected, and I liked the surprise! This is a great song!

I'm digging the unconventional chord progressions in the chorus. This a really cool bit of post-punk! Good stuff TC!!
