This track is for my nan, who I miss like crazy.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
I had a dream where
You were just a girl,
You ran the fields
And the sunflowers wanted the world,
So they reached for you.

Everyone you loved
Had a second chance.
You said the word and we watched
As you started to dance,
Like the end was soon.

Verse 2:
Sometimes I find myself
Drifting away
To the brick house on the corner
Of Memory Ln.,
Where you used to live.

I ran up from the sidewalk,
Closed my eyes and jumped up
Into your arms,
And you said I was taller
Than the last time.

You put me down and I ran
Through the yard, dauntless,
When I tripped and fell, so thoughtless,
I was not afraid
Because you were there for me.

I was there and it's still
Hard to believe,
That my last time at the house
Was laying beneath
The Autumn Leaves.

Chorus:
When you can't quite find the names,
And when you can't recall the faces
That you raised to be the ones to say
"The End is just the Beginning",

I won't let you slip away,
I won't let you be erased.
I will place you with the parts of me
That you built to keep on singing.

Verse 3:
You took a fall in the garden,
Got up a different person
That Nobody knew,
But everyone waited
For you.

I swear on my life,
That on the day that you died,
We were all laughing and crying
And remembering the times that you danced with us
Like the end was soon.

When you can't quite find the names,
And when you can't recall the faces
That you raised to be the ones to say
"The End is just the Beginning",

I won't let you slip away,
I won't let you be erased.
I will place you with the parts of me
That you built to keep on singing.

The End is just the Beginning.
The End is just the Beginning.

A lovely tribute to your nan. That piano progression alone carries so much emotion, and then the vocal comes along! I really liked all the panned backing vocals, all at distance - creates a really nice sense of space. The obvious thing for this track would be to blast in with a big beat and strings etc to the point where it might be insincere... really glad you didn't do that

This is such a beautiful memorial. I love that the drum sounds like heartbeat, its a sweet detail. It's lovely to see how you're weaving everything into itself throughout this series of albums and how much you love each of the people you write about. The love comes through in the music!

Love that little turn around at the end of each section. Writing as I listen and those gorgeous harmonies in the verse are tingly.
A thought pops into my head which tells me, Brandon writes songs that draw me in the way Kate Bush's songs draw me in. Kate is in my top 3 favourite songwriters. Just saying'
Thank you!

This is an awesome tribute to your nan! Made me think of my own who has been gone for a decade now and deeply miss but am grateful for. Here's to all the nans who came before us with love to give us all a fighting chance for the future!
