Now that I'm retired, I have the time and desire to be creative. Just wish the voice was what it once was!

I'm slowest at lyrics, so I'm open to collaborating with someone with strengths in that department. Just be warned that, no matter what I try to do, it comes out as a ballad.

Hi Paul. I'm a few timezones away in the Okanagan Valley in BC. I'm originally a Brit (now a happy Canuck), married to a Canadian Mikaelsen. With your sen-ending surname does your family connection go back to Denmark?
[avatar]
Glad you liked One Hit Wonder, @paul_pedersen
Here's to celebrating any success!
[avatar]
Thank you for the reference to the McGarrigal sisters, who I had never heard of, though I have heard of Rufus Wainwright. I hear what you mean with their harmonies. Not sure if you ever heard of this song, but I sang it in chorus as a kid - also "Kites Are Fun" - but their sound certainly influenced my sense of harmony and love of dissonance. https://youtu.be/6ixnoEwpEpI

@jeff9
Thanks for all your generous comments, Paul.
[avatar]
Thanks for listening to "The Only Way to Hang On". Not my lyrics... but I too like take on Nancy's lyrics(I don't always like em!). Thanks for the Rod McKuen lead. I listened and vaguely remember!.. He's more or less from the era when I was introduced to popular music (Paul Anla, etc). Music tastes change depending upon "What's happening now" and the technologies available at the time. However, I suspect and hope it's cyclical... and that what goes around comes arounc...eventually.
[avatar]
Finally getting around to catching up on comments. Thanks so much for your listen to "One Lucky Valentine." I'm glad you could enjoy a song I was worried people would find too "fluffy."
[avatar]
@scubed
Thanks so much for your lovely comments on my songs! I really appreciate them. (I would never actually have haggis in my pantry, either, but ain’t it a great rhyme? 😆)

Congratulations on getting a trophy for your first FAWM!
[avatar]
@gm7
I knew it!! Anyhhoo Hi fellow Canuck. I will stop by soon and have another listen to your catalogue. cheers
[avatar]
Hey Paul
I literally have a lifetimes worth of lyrics, many hand written and I'm always happy to share and collaborate. I'm also unfussed by people altering the cadence or words to suit there own voice. Pete and I cut one up completely and rewrote the rest into a song. I'm interested in completing things and getting a final product.
Please do get in touch further, maybe we can have an after-FAWM party sometime, somewhere...
[avatar]
Hey Paul, yes, love the comments that have come in for The Algorithm. Would be great to do more collabs with you, either in another FAWM or 50/90, or just outside of that. Just contact me by email if you want to work on Won't Do You No Good or any of my other lyrics
[avatar]
Dear Paul, thank you so much for the two wonderful collaborations (resulting into songs that I will keep forever and enjoy listening to them) as well as for your wonderful words... You are way too kind... It is a honour and a great pleasure having met you here. It is only thanks to wonderful people like you who can bring a few simple words to life in such a wonderful way thanks to your gorgeous talent that motivates and keeps us lyricists writing... What would lyrics be if not just a few words on a crumpled sheet of paper, gathering dust in some drawer, if they weren't turned into songs and brought to life? Thank you so much for giving these words their life and for creating something that wonderful as you did...
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for checking out my profile and commenting!
Well, I didn't want to convert you! I'm all fine with believing in good music 😄
Good to know I'm not the only one who cheats on the piano! I would not be able to play 90% of my songs live, but MIDI and producer voodoo helps a lot. My left hand is only able to play some easy chord shapes on a rhythm, but no melodies, arpeggios or 7th chords. Piano is my main instrument for songwriting, cause I know the chords and notes, but I have much more fun playing guitar. Let's see when and where I hit the wall there 😅!
[avatar]
Paul, re the Dutch phrases, no bother as I'm thoroughly Irish and for future reference its Ik houd van jou <3
[avatar]
Hi Paul - I’m not sure how to send an MP3, but I changed the audience for Wordle to public, so maybe that will work for others to hear it? If not, let me know and I’ll try to send you a link to my SoundCloud for FAWM. So sorry that I’m technologically inept 🤷‍♀️.
[avatar]
Oh, thank you, Paul. It was good to be with you. Look forward to listening to many more of your songs in March, and to making some more together sometime - 5090 or next FAWM. I'm so glad you enjoyed your first year. Feels like you've found your home.
[avatar]
@andrea
Hi Paul, I wanted to stop by and say thanks for a great collab. It was a pleasure to meet and work with you this FAWM :)
[avatar]
That's what March is for! 😀
[avatar]
Congrats on your Trophy!!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment under Sink or Swim. Yep, I have 2 lyrics ready to go and I think the chords decided on one. Find myself full of flu tonight so we'll see what happens tomorrow, either way I'll post what I have and get them done. I can't listen to anything tonight but I can see how many you've done, so wow, thanks for total awe and respect so I will take some pleasure in going back over them soon ✨
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Paul. Please tell your son he's welcome to this one as far as I'm concerned if he ever runs out of Christmas song material.
[avatar]
@mctown
Oh, Christmas songs... 14 cd releases.. does he need any songs? lol
[avatar]
And here I am, back again, to say a million thank you's for your enthusiasm for Somewhere In The World, It's Yesterday. I knew I wanted Marieke to join me on this one, and she certainly delivered! The addition of Andy was a big bonus.
P.S. If you're praising our song, feel free to take as time and space as you want! :)
[avatar]
Oh, Paul! Thank you for the praise on Something For Nothing! I just wrote the lyrics, and Ed made them into this lovely song. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thank you, Paul. A little blues never hurt anybody, right?
[avatar]
@jeff9
Much obliged for your comment on “Like God Does”, Paul.
[avatar]
Thank you, Paul, for what you said about Never Fall In Love With A Musician. I'm so glad you liked it and I appreciate your taking the time to comment.
[avatar]
@jeff9
Glad you enjoyed the "Willie" song, Paul. Thanks for taking a listen.
[avatar]
ha ha i defy gravity everyday and i am very fine! if i was my songs i would have serious multi personality disorder on steroids
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind note on the collab with Florian. I didn't hear from him until about an hour ago and I thought he hated it... thank god he didn't! Hope your FAWM is going awesome!! I wish I could get more collabs going with pop writers who have home studios but I'm not finding that many. If you run across anyone, please send them my way!!! Big hug to you and I hope we stay in touch after FAWM.
[avatar]
@jeff9
So glad you enjoyed "Gabrielle", Paul. I was honored to get to try and find some suitable music for Stephen's artistic lyric. Thank you for listening and your kind comment.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for your comments on What’s Your Life Worth. Yes, I was particularly focusing on ratios 😊, but as you suggest, the inequalities of the USA’s present “healthcare” system are always quite apparent, especially to those who live in countries where healthcare is considered a right, and not a privilege. I’ve got quite a few songs on that subject - and dreams that they may someday make a difference 😊
[avatar]
Thanks for the kind comments on The Bottom Of The Sea, much appreciated!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Much obliged, Paul, for your kind words about Five String Blues.
[avatar]
Thanks for your kind comments on Wordle. I keep saying I'm never going to play again, and then . . . . :-)
[avatar]
Thanks Paul for your nice comments on " Words Are Not Enough" - always extra special from a Canadian songwriter! I've been a fan of your writers from Lightfoot to The Weekend. My Dad and I used to go up from Cleveland to Killarney to provision for camping and probably stopped in your town a few times.
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks, Paul, for the nice comment on Always You. How did you figure out our mutual connection to Darrell?
[avatar]
Thank you for the continued support. I’m off on my holidays tomorrow so my writing and recording has been cut short. It’ll give me a chance to catch up on some listening and commenting though
[avatar]
Paul, What a wonderful compliment on Love Doesn’t End Till It’s Over. You just made my day. It was a very congenial collab with Carley Baer, who I found wonderful to work with. Thanks for listening.
[avatar]
No problem. It's always interesting to get different takes on a lyric.
[avatar]
Paul, Thanks for your comments on Always You. I agree with you about Jeff's take on my lyrics. He managed to capture exactly what I had in mind. So glad you enjoyed the song.
[avatar]
@thetau
Sorry, it was regarding @andrea. I'm just the Average Joe, so I'm not beyond making mistakes. Probably should have left the message on his Profile instead of on the song itself. And we have touched Basses about some lyrics. It was your music that made that one turn my head.
Thank you Russ
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my collab song with crisp1 "All the Time in the World".
[avatar]
Thanks. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with for The Algorithm
[avatar]
@ltunes
Paul I really appreciate your comments on Devil in Disguise. I feel like my vocals usually don't sit down in the mix well, so I was trying to pull this one back and I agree - went to far. There must be a sweet spot. You being willing to mention it helps me learn. so --- THANKS!
[avatar]
Dear Paul, I sent you an email... Thank you sooooooo much for the fantastic song! I *LOVE* what you created here, it is absolutely amazing...
[avatar]
Thanks a lot for your kind words as well as for your comment on "I never wanted to say goodbye"... I would be very happy if you gave it a try... I am already very excited...
[avatar]
Thanks for your comments on “Return Trip”! Much appreciated!
[avatar]
Thanks for the nice words on I Hate When We Don’t Talk ❤️
[avatar]
@jeff9
Much obliged for the nice comment about Sounds Like a Song, Paul. A song that's actually about Willie coming soon.
[avatar]
Hi Paul! That’s the beauty of FAWM - commit to the moment and move on to the next one! Just to reiterate, it’s a wonderful song as it is. It was more of a musing than a definite suggestion on my part :)
[avatar]
First of all, I would like to ask your forgiveness for my late reply, now only I came home from a busy day at work, and also today´s my little boy´s 3rd birthday, so we just put the cake and blew the candles and gave the gifts... and now while he is playing, I am listening and enjoying the song so much that you wrote... The music, the melody, they are fascinating... I am sooooooo happy how it turned out... I LOVE it... Great use of instruments, the lyrical tweaks are lovely and your vocal delivery is excellent... You manage to convey that deep feelings with your music and the way you perform it. Thank you sooooo much for adding this wonderful magic to the words... I am in love with this song...
[avatar]
Thanks for the wisdom. February is my problem month with vocal range and throat clearing issues. So much singing!!
[avatar]
Girl on the radio. Sure Paul be my guest. carrollgkiphen@live.com
[avatar]
Ok, of course....No problem, please, take your time... I am looking very forward to it... :-)
[avatar]
Thank you very much for your kind message on my soundboard regarding "Love Me the Same Way I Do". I would be honoured if you gave these lyrics a try... You can edit and alter the words any way and to any extent you like, it is totally okay with me... :-) I would look very, VERY forward to it...
Please, let me know if you like me to add you as collaborator or, otherwise, please, feel free to post the eventual song anew...
Kind regards, Arthur
[avatar]
@paul_pedersen is a top liner a lyric writer or a soloist?
I want some urban blues-y soul words in between the solos! @arthurrossi - I see you are a lyricist would you have a listen to Petrol Rainbows too please?
[avatar]
Dear Paul! I read your post in the collaboration thread, I am a lyricist, always open for collaboration and I might have some lyrics that could fit in what you are looking for... In case you like to check some of them out, I was posting those ones in English in the earlier days of February (so please, check at the bottom of my list) and in the 2nd half of February some in English are still supposed to follow...
Many kind regards, Arthur
[avatar]
You will be amused, but for the last week, your roller coaster song is stuck in my head… so great!!
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thanks for those nice comments about Wishin is Like Fishin, Paul. And for the referral to your friend Tara's "fishing" song--it is fantastic!
[avatar]
I'm pretty sure it does but I've never uploaded to the site. I always used external links. But there's a whole forum thread dedicated to "song updates" that will appear a little later in the month.
For now I suggest you go to the forum and post the topic question somethig like. How do I update a remixed song when using site hosting? You'lll have your answer in minutes.
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Choose".
[avatar]
Still says 0.00 on my phone. I'll check later or tomorrow on desktop.
[avatar]
Hey, Paul - @tuneslayer sent me an email to say he's also working on a version "It's All Okay". I'd be thrilled to have both versions posted if that works for you.
[avatar]
Paul - go for it. Look forward to hearing what you come up with for It's All Okay.
[avatar]
Thanks for the feedback on 'Infinity', not me in a hotel so not quite as impressive. Secret was going to bed at 2am and getting up at 6am - ha!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment under 'Get it Done'. Yeah, I someone mentioned the other day they would like to hear me do jazz so inspiration set in.
[avatar]
Thanks for the feedback on my first outing this fawm!! There will be more but I’m stuck in my hotel room again now, so will tinker with some midi based stuff to pass some time I think
[avatar]
@andrea
Sounds good. Thanks
[avatar]
@andrea
Hi Paul, Thanks for checking out Average Joe. Glad you like it. I would be happy to hear what you some up with :)
[avatar]
@jeff9
And for "Pack Up and Leave", also. You are so very generous to do so much listening while still being productive enough to be on track to hit 14 yourself! Much appreciated!
[avatar]
@jeff9
And ditto for what you wrote about "Closing Time is Closing In."
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thank you so much, Paul, for your very kind words about "Rannoch Moor".
[avatar]
Go for it, Paul. Thank you.
[avatar]
*wink*
[avatar]
and you'll still be just a touch ahead of schedule. Don't fret it at all. Do what you do. You've got songs on the board you (probably?) wouldn't have otherwise and made a bunch of friends. That sounds like a win to me! :)
[avatar]
Paul - I will definitely go digging for some lyrics for you, or write you a fresh set. Let me know if you have a word or mood or scene or snippet of music you'd like me to start from.
[avatar]
@oddbod
thanks, you didn't mention which song made you a bobblehead though 😄
[avatar]
Thanks for the input. I've got mounds of listens/comments to repay. I'll get back around here and listen to your latest as the I come to it in order, otherwhise I get confused and people get missed and I don't like to do that. I'm glad your finding your feet. I hate to say I told you so.... :)
Hugs, my friend.
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "His Sun", just to clarify, Cindyrella only read my poem and suggested I make it a song, and I did.
[avatar]
the chords i played on this should take 5 mins to learn - 3 or 4 simple open chords - i wrote this specifically so everyone could play and sing along
[avatar]
Ok, but the crocodile is not invited back to my place!
[avatar]
Hey Paul! Let’s smash this! 🤗🎶
[avatar]
@jeff9
Thank you, Paul. Have a great FAWM!

Welcome to FAWM - I listened to your song Greyhound on Bandcamp. I like it a lot. I'm fastest at lyrics, so maybe we can team up some.
[avatar]
Hi Paul, and welcome. Being retired is the best. Marvel at all that extra music-making time! And there's nowt wrong with ballads.
