Singer-songwriter based in Edinburgh, but in love with all kinds of Americana, sung in my own voice (hence SIASA - songs in a Scottish accent).

Two songs from my 2022 FAWM experience are now available as a mini-EP - 'Empire' and 'Still Life.' Either buy them or sign up to my occasional email list for a free download code - either way the money will go to Ukraine: see https://andrewfergusonassiasa.bandcamp.com/album/still-life

This year, it's a bit more like February Album Finishing Month - I have an album that's nearly complete, and probably just needs one or two strong songs to round it off. However, I'm keeping an open mind and just writing whatever falls out of the sky on me. It's such a fun process interacting with other Fawmers it doesn't really bother me if I get one, five or ten songs done!

That's Red Ink updated at last, feast your ears!

Thank you and you're welcome! Hope you had a good FAWM yourself!

Definitely up for a post match pint - also the Safari open mic. Only made it there once and loved it.

Hi Andrew, have you heard of 50/90?

July 4th to October 1st - fifty songs in ninety days.
[avatar]
Hi Andrew - thanks for the compliment and for the nudge about the Musselburgh open mic. Ten minutes on the bus...

@siasa
Thanks to @marvsmooth and @ayehahmur for your kind comments on 'From an Unfinished Notebook.' I'll certainly be looking to use the line myself - it's not like I come up with limitless amounts of half-decent lines - but it ain't going to happen in February! In the meantime, anyone who's inspired should treat it as open source.

Who knows, maybe it'll resurface next February....

Hi Andrew, thanks for listening and commenting on "My Three Years at Sea", your kind comments are very much appreciated!
[avatar]
Heh, he's actually a bassist, hence the modesty, I think lol.
[avatar]
Cheers! I will pass that guitar stuff on to my helper, who believes he has a lot more work to do and not happy yet. But as far as I'm concerned, it's the best thing since sliced bread.
[avatar]
Thanks for looking at these ones, there have got to be few a writer's going to wrestle with. I'm actually excited to get this far!
[avatar]
Thanks for all your helpful comments! RE: Singing. I will continue to experiment. That seems to be the name of the game!
[avatar]
RE: I've been using pitch correction, but if I stay in keys C and G I don't seem to need it. I need to find out what keys I can sing in aside from those? Thanks so much for the good feedback!

@janeg
The Mermaid is a lovely song but It would take a lot of computer work by by my husband to try to combine voices. And without a music track, it wouldn’t be that good. I can’t ask that while he’s writing FAWM songs himself. Nor am I any good at harmony.
[avatar]
Yes, listening back there is some percussion work needed, something I can fiddle with more after the 28th! For now it's bang the songs out and hope for the best (14 is looking, um, a challenge, shall we say.)
[avatar]
Funny story. Originally the word was "slipping" but I sang it wrong as "sleeping" and liked it so much that I changed the lyric.
[avatar]
FAWM is a great place to audition new sounds, ideas. Thank so much for your feedback!
[avatar]
Thank you! A comparison to Joni Mitchell? Made my day that has.
[avatar]
Yes! I get what you're saying about "Of life," and not saying the one line the way I did. I could have paused the beat at that time. Thanks so much for the feedback!
[avatar]
I always assume if someone writes a song about a book, that it is a recommendation, unless the lyrics advise otherwise.
[avatar]
Thanks again for all your comments I really appreciate them.
[avatar]
Cheers, yes there' s probably the hint of vampiricity in there! Thanks for listening again. I hope the gig was good and you didn't get to windblown!
[avatar]
Ooh enjoy the gig! And yes, the horrible cold in February is something of a trial, so glad you got a use out of it!
[avatar]
Heh, no *deliberate* homages to Talking Heads. I think there's a lot of work to be done on polishing and finishing this one but thanks for listening!
[avatar]
Hope it's ok to comment again. I just thought (in the pub after the Hibs game) that switching the chords around for the chorus in 'Neighbourhood' might be effective in differentiating it from the verse. This may be nonsense of course...
[avatar]
I was thinking I should've tagged @siasa in that one. I dunno, it just felt right in character for the narrator of that song to go the full Glasgow.
[avatar]
Thanks for the listens and the suggestions. I will take them to heart during editing.
[avatar]
I love the image of Joe holding forcing H&O to do his bidding. "Look sharp, Darryl, or you know what happens!"
[avatar]
No worries about the critique, I agree with you there. Thanks for being honest keep it coming.
[avatar]
I'm getting there slowly and in some considerable discomfort thank you. (Actually this might be the fastest I've produced stuff in a FAWM, so I'm counting my blessings).
[avatar]
Thanks for your generous comments.
[avatar]
Andrew! Cheers for your various kind comments. Good to see you around again this year. Whaur's yer songs, but?
[avatar]
Thanks for the listen to my "Crazier than You."
[avatar]
@siasa
Haha no problem - it's a cross I bear lightly (cricket's my main sporting obsession, if I have one)
[avatar]
Hi Andrew - thanks for the comment on the Proclaimers song. Sorry to hit the Hibees trigger - hope to catch you in the West Lower one Saturday. Trust me, as a Grimsby Town fan for 50 years, I know despair.
[avatar]
Thanks for the feedback, looking forward to hearing some more from you this year when it happens!
[avatar]
Good to hear from you, Loki g forward to hearing your work.

Hi there. Being new to Edinburgh I'm listening to random Edinburgh people. I really like the song Still Life. Hope you have a good one this year.
